A fair society where socially excluded people are supported to obtain skills, qualifications and employment to build sustainable, independent lives contributing positively to society History: At its foundation, The Restore Trust was set up in 2009 by the current CEO Suzanne Thompson and SMT board of Avon & Somerset Probation Trust, in conjunction with the National Offender Management Service. The organisation was registered as an independent VCSE in 2010 and is managed by an excellent board of trustees. Whilst the organisation retains a specialism in working with people with complex needs and criminal convictions, it can work with anyone in the community who is experiencing barriers in accessing training and employment. Many of our clients have complex needs in relation to homelessness, mental health problems, drug/alcohol dependency and offending behaviour. We pride ourselves on our non-judgemental, person-centred approach in our work with clients that builds their confidence, motivation and helps to inspire change in their lives. Mission/Values: Our mission is to work collaboratively with different organisations to promote equality of opportunity, strengthen the sector by access to high quality services to enable people to reach their full potential by gaining the skills, confidence, qualifications and employment suited to their needs and aspirations, ultimately contributing positively to society and the local economy. This mission aligns with our core values of working in a non-judgemental and person-centred way to build constructive and supportive working relationships with our clients to help them progress and achieve the goals they have identified. We offer a relaxed, informal environment and with additional wrap around support when required, including provision of free refreshments and snacks to support clients learning on-site. A key part of our success comes from our partnerships, and we pride ourselves on having an excellent staff team with backgrounds in Criminal Justice, Welfare, and Community work with disadvantaged young people and adults. The superb quality of our board members also brings an additional wealth of expertise and experience to our organisation. Humans are by nature complex insular and self-protective. Conversely, they are also extremely curious and impulsive. In our fast-paced technology led world the art of the conversation is rapidly being side-lined in favour of the safety and anonymity of email and text. But what when we find ourselves in the situation of having a difficult conversation with a real human face to face? A recent study by Globis, the Japanese Graduate School of Management, revealed that 53% of respondents to their “Difficult conversations” survey consciously avoided any conversation where there was a chance of conflict. The reasons provided were lack of appropriate training and lack of experience. The need to reverse this trend through education is both timely and relevant. We aim to provide quality and affordable E-learning products which focus on all aspects of human behaviour for both business and personal relationships. I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.
