All the lessons are planned to accommodate the child’s age, level and ability to learn. For any enquires I can be contacted via maria.carrero@kidslingo.co.uk or 07598542584. A little about me: I was born in Barcelona in the Northeast of Spain which is also where my mother originates from that makes us both Catalan. My dad was from the North of Spain, Vizcaya (El Pais Vasco/Euskadi). I have been brought up hearing different languages, especially Catalan. I have to admit I have never learned this language but I did manage to learn words and make little sentences just by overhearing my mum talking to other family members. Days after I was born, we moved to Madrid, where I learned Castellano. Madrid is where I was raised with my two older sisters. When I was 21 I moved to Ireland to learn English and after a few years traveling around the island and working, I came to England with my son and his Dad. I have brought up my son bilingual, which has helped him with his Spanish GCSE. I have always enjoyed working with children but now I am teaching them my own language with the Kidslingo Spanish program, It is my dream job!!. After establishing and running a similar two year pilot project for young creatives as part of the lead up to Perth Creative Exchange and The Famous Grouse Ideas Centre opening , founding director Helen O’Brien decided to take the model of this project forward as a social enterprise. YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE! I set up my first business at the age of 17; buying pizzas from a local factory and selling them to hungry students at my college. Not groundbreaking by any means, but it taught me a huge amount about business, and paid for my social life, as well as funding a modest expansion in the form of a chest freezer, delivery bike and eventually a van. More importantly, this little pizza business gave me the knowledge and confidence to develop my next idea. COMPETING WITH FILOFAX At 19, I designed and manufactured a range of products to compete with the global brand ‘Filofax’ (for those who remember them). My first order (from WH-Smith) was manufactured in a rented bedroom in Tring, Hertfordshire, and the business quickly grew big enough to win several innovation and business awards. Within 18 months the range sold through many major UK and European retailers, including Liberty’s and Selfridges, as well as being used as commercial folders and gifts by brands like Mercedes Benz and Shell Oil. GROWING COMPANIES Since selling that brand at 22, I’ve grown several businesses with the majority of the last 25+ years running and owning companies in the branding, design, marketing and business development sector. From turning 2 people working from a bedroom making very little to a 30 headcount agency turning over £2.5m through to a 20 person agency in London to have 400 people in offices all over the world. Always with a focus on growth and working closely with my clients, it is here that I have advised many hundreds of different companies on their positioning, brand, marketing, customer development, growth and efficiency.

Paradice Ice Rink Avondale

PARADICE A BRIEF HISTORY One day in the early 1970’s Ross Blong, a farmer with imagination as it turned out, came home from a particularly unpleasant milking and told his wife Nell he had enough and wanted to find something different to do! After searching for a “people business” they decided on an ice skating rink in Glen Innes and purchased it in 1974. After a steep learning curve they established Paradice on the map as a great family entertainment facility in Auckland. By 1980 they had dreams of building New Zealand’s first international size indoor arena and had it up and running by May 1981 at our current Avondale location at Lansford Cresent. It has been popular ever since with families and as a “hang out” for teens and young adults. There have been several transformations since its opening with the most recent being completed in 2011 to include a state of the art ice floor, dasher boards and refrigeration system. By the late 1990’s the second family generation having being heavily involved in ice sports at an international level dreamed of a second, Olympic sized indoor ice rink, again a first for New Zealand, and it was built in 1999 at its current location Botany Downs. The rink is still going strong today. In 2012 Paradice owned and operated Auckland’s first temporary outdoor ice rink at Aotea Square which has turned into an annual winter wonderland type event with the addition of NZ’s first event ice slide in 2014. Our temporary ice rinks have expanded to Rotorua, Wellington, and Taupo. Through the years Paradice has operated as a family, customer focused friendly business with staff sharing their passion for people and ice with innovation!

With over 35 years commercial experience in building running and managing businesses operating across International markets in many channels I found this course to be hugely beneficial. As someone famously said I was so impressed I bought the company. Whether it is long commercial or legal documents, the endless trail of emails that flood our phones and computers more and more precious time is being taken up reading. Bu understanding both the mechanical and psychological elements that go into “smart reading” we can help you increase both the speed at which you read and also retain more of the understanding of what you have read. These courses have been proven over 30 years and thousands of satisfied customers (many in the public sector) and now more than ever before do we need to be able to read effectively. At our latest course in Durham the group on the course averaged more than a doubling of the speed at which they could read by the end of the day – oh and to add to that the understanding of what they had read also increased significantly — a real win – win. Just imagine what you could do with the time you would save each week ! Meet the Team From start up’s through to multi national organisation Tim’s expertise and commercial acumen has helped deliver profitable growth across many differing businesses. Dedicated to helping people get the most out of every opportunity in their work life balance. I always see opportunity and get great satisfaction in seeing people grow and develop their skills through the various training and development courses. Outside of work most Saturdays sees me involved in Rugby in some way shape or form (coaching / managing) and even still pull on the boots on the odd occasion, best rugby memory was playing in a game where both my sons were playing.
