The term Workie Ticket is a Geordie colloquialism, which means someone who likes to push one’s luck- a chancer or a cheeky trouble-maker. When JoJo Kirtley was a young lass, her Grandad Joe would call her, “a proper little workie ticket” and the nick-name stuck. So, when thinking of a name for her theatre company, it seemed the perfect choice and in 2017, Workie Ticket Theatre was founded. Our mission is to shake things up, be bold, push our luck within the theatre world and empower people through our work. JoJo Kirtley Founder & Co-Artistic Director “It’s hard being a woman in terms of what is happening in the current climate, but also I think there is a gap in the market for what we do and how we do it- working with women and encouraging them through theatre to tell their stories. Now is the time to speak up and speak out.” A writer, producer, facilitator and founder of Workie Ticket Theatre Company, JoJo Kirtley has been working for over a decade to create real social impact through theatre. Her work has been performed at The Lowry, Contact Theatre, The Exchange, (North Shields), Live Theatre and the 24:7 Theatre Festival. She is passionate about developing work within local communities to create a platform and raise awareness of issues that affect women in the North East region. JoJo is also a qualified teacher with a MA in Theatre Studies. She balances running Workie Ticket with being a mother and working for various women's organisations in the North East.

Northumberland Community Development Company are proud to have been awarded funding by The Prince’s Countryside Fund for a two year project. This award will be used to support business growth in the rural communities in the west of Northumberland. We aim to work with people who are considering self-employment as a viable alternative to employment. We are particularly interested in assisting people from the farming community looking to diversify, home working to support young families and helping older people stay in their communities. We want to contribute to vibrant, economically stable communities, enabling people to live, work and socialise in their community. It reaches out into Luton’s communities working with people to use community spaces, designing and running community programmes and working with children and young people through its education services and school. It also has a presence in GP practices and health care centres supporting people to take control of their health, wellbeing and lifestyles through its role in the Total Wellbeing Luton pioneering integrated wellbeing service.

Tunbridge Wells Winter Lantern Parade

On the lower part of Camden Road in Tunbridge Wells, beyond the traffic lights, there are no Christmas lights. A group of local volunteers got together to organise a parade of light from the town centre, all the way down to the bottom of Camden Road as a way of lighting up the street and celebrating the diverse community that exists within the road itself. The community play ‘The Vanishing Elephant’ had taken place a couple years before and the local volunteers where keen to keep the creative and community spirit alive through the arts and so, CREATE (the community group behind organising the parade) and the Tunbridge Wells Winter Lantern Parade was born. In 2015, our long-running grant was axed. We now fund the parade ourselves with the support of generous local individuals and businesses like you. To help with our fundraising efforts, in 2019 we started making lantern making kits for people to buy so that they could either make their lanterns at one of our workshops leading up to the parade or take them away so they could make one in the comfort of their own home which couldn’t have been made possible without the help of local crafty volunteers to help put the kits together and wonderful local businesses that agreed to sell them on our behalf. London School of Beauty and Makeup is the most prestigious private beauty school in the UK, for training beauty therapists, located in the Heart of London.Here at LSBM, we offer a total of five VTCT Level 2 or Level 2 & 3 combined beauty therapy courses. Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) is a specialist awarding and assessment organisation offering vocational and technical qualifications across a variety of service sectors, including beauty therapy. The Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention course for COVID-19 is a pre-requisite for all other VTCT Level 2 and 3 courses. You will be prompted to add it to your basket before you check out if you don’t already hold it. The Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma is perfect for entry level students on the first rung of their beauty careers. You’ll cover waxing, facials, lashes and brows and manicures and pedicures. This more comprehensive beauty therapy course adds body massage, facial electrotherapy and body electrotherapy to your skillset, and results in being awarded both the VTCT Level 2 and Level 3 Beauty Therapy Studies Diplomas.

The National Energy Foundation was established in 1988 by Milton Keynes Development Corporation to continue its work on energy efficient housing through its Energy World project. Energy World was a demonstration of 51 low-energy houses designed to be at least 30% more efficient than the Building Regulations then in force. The Foundation was set up to increase public awareness on the safe and efficient use of energy through demonstration and research. From 1993 to 2001 NEF worked closely with the Energy Saving Trust in setting up the UK’s network of Energy Efficiency Advice Centres (EEACs) and managed the network for the first five years. NEF went on to develop the National Home Energy Rating Scheme, which was run by a trading subsidiary (National Energy Services) from 1994 and in 1998 NEF established the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme for businesses which was transferred to the Carbon Trust in 2005 and later became the Carbon Trust Standard which continues to run to this day. Renewable energy was relatively unknown at this time and NEF became a thought leader as awareness began to grow and was at the forefront of educating the public on the latest developments. Through outreach events and working with schools, the team was introducing local people to the benefit’s renewable energy. When USEA (United Sustainable Energy Agency) merged with NEF in 2013, NEF started doing a lot of work on advice on domestic energy efficiency and fuel poverty which grew into the projects still running today.

After decades in the corporate world we reached a tipping point where we needed to channel our energy into something new. We had both spent so much of our careers running, racing, relentlessly pushing, proving, re-proving, worrying, wondering, apologising. Loving it most days but at times, totally exhausted by the pressure of juggling it all. Forever climbing expectations of time and energy until the bank is empty. More and more “baby birds” demanding attention as you climb up the ladder and manage larger teams. That nagging feeling that there is always something you should be doing. Giving a little bit more. Being a touch more proactive. Staying that bit later. Being a bit more committed. More plates spinning as life gets yet more complicated with children and mortgages and sick parents and far far too much adulting. Too much guilt. Life was becoming totally out of balance. Relationships suffered. Health took a hammering. But then we realised, hang on, it isn’t all out of our hands, it is absolutely in our control. It is possible to manage our energy and even have more of it than ever before. We can fill up the bank until it’s bursting at the seams. We just didn’t realise you have to stop being so reactive and leaving yourself at the bottom of the priority pile. It hadn’t dawned on us that you have to take control of managing your wellbeing. We didn’t know that it’s in everyone’s interest to put yourself first. And even if we did, we had never been taught how?
