Hopscotch Under Fives

hopscotch under fives

London

Established originally as a Drop in for local children run by local mothers the nursery grew from this into the setting that we have today, incorporating 3 classrooms alongside a dedicated Drop in which runs daily. The nursery is a registered charity and a not for profit organization. The nursery is run by a dedicated team of managers with Trustees and directors that are made up of parents from the nursery. This system allows all parents to get involved in the running of their child’s nursery both on the ground level and in the management side. The nursery is run by Vivien Moxam & Manisha Gorsia who have both been at the nursery well over 15 years, we are local to the Queens Park area and have worked closely with the community. Manisha Gorsia has been the manager for over 13 years and is passionate about the nursery, the children and is always looking at opportunities to build and develop the team and the practices at Hopscotch, Manisha wants all children to leave the nursery with confidence and the skills to go onto school. Manisha runs the team of 20 staff overseeing them on a daily basis with the help of her deputy and room leaders. Vivien Moxam joined the team over 15 years ago while her own children were attending the nursery & has since come on board as a Company Director. Manisha and Vivien work closely together to ensure the smooth running of Hopscotch, with Manisha being child facing & Vivien’s role is to over see the business aspect of the business.

Swansea

Baby Love Group Classes are friendly, giggle-filled age-appropriate groups overflowing with sensory, exploratory & creative play across Swansea The BABYLOVE concept was initially a response to Claire’s experiences as an early years educator; the lack of communication skills in young children particularly concerned her and it became a burning desire to create a program which supported communication skills from from bump – nursery. This has over time evolved into a program which holistically develops the cognition, physical skills, social interaction, imagination, creativity, communication, autonomy, musicality, confidence and love of learning in little ones. Over the 10 years Babylove has been running Claire has identified a real need to offer mums more support. To do this skillfully she has teamed up with LushTums founder Clare Maddalen, an inspiration in the ante natal, birth and post natal world. Currently Claire is completing Ante Natal training with Clare through her amazing Lush Tums Program. Claire is now adding new content to the Babylove program to fully empower, support and enrich Mums and their partners experiences as they move through pregnancy, birth, life AS a newborn Mummy AND life WITH a newborn baby! Young Reporter Scheme

young reporter scheme

Middlesex

The Young Reporter Scheme has been running since 2008 in partnership with Newsquest Media Group. It is a quality programme, delivering lectures and teachings to help mould young people, not only into the world of the media, but also into worthwhile careers for the future. Starting with two pilot schools and a handful of students in South West London, it grew exponentially and since then we have taken thousands of students through the process. Initially, students from the two pilot schools, wrote for The Local Guardian online newspaper but as the scheme grew, we extended the range of titles and now they write for Newsquest’s range of online newspapers throughout the entire of the UK. The scheme is open to Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 and students start their ‘writing career’ uploading articles directly onto the Newsquest websites, within specified deadlines and categories.   What is involved?  • Students sign up for eight months writing one article per month  • ALL articles are published on our online newspapers  • The scheme runs from September through to April of each academic year  • All those completing the scheme receive a written recommendation  • At the end of the scheme, there is a chance to go forward and compete for prizes  • Winners receive an undergraduate day at a London University  • Top thirty-three students attend a Media Award Ceremony  • One student from each age group becomes the face of Young Reporter for the next year   • Students doing Duke of Edinburgh can do the scheme as one of their skills   Costs  There is a minimal administration charge from the school and an additional cost for each student All monies received purely cover the running costs of the scheme, supporting students and mentoring sessions, as we are totally self-funding.
