After traveling seven seas, both geographically and professionally, Mairi started running Yoga with Mairi classes in central Scotland, in 2018, gradually growing a small but inclusive community of dedicated Hatha Yoga practitioners. Now getting close to 1000 of teaching hours delivered. Mairi started practicing Hatha Yoga 20 years ago, and had an honour to learn from many amazing teachers across the world. Her practice was, however, particularly influenced by the Bihar and Hridaya schools of Yoga, and this orientation led her to discover the Akasha Yoga Academy (Bali/Thailand), where she completed her 200hrs Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in 2017. Mairi also holds a First Class Certificate in Philosophy of Yoga, from Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies affiliated to the University of Oxford (2016). Besides that, and somewhat relevant to her teaching, Mairi holds a continental MD qualification from her first degree, and she is a Master of Science in social medicine from her second degree. She also holds a postgraduate qualification in Cultural and Gender Studies. Since her first qualification from the School of Medicine at the University of Belgrade (Serbia), and until recently, Mairi was an academic researcher in social medicine and medical sociology, and for some time, also a lecturer. She was specialising in qualitative research and understanding health and access to healthcare, with a particular interest in complexity theory, holistic health & integrative healthcare. His Grandfather Moffat bred MacMoffat, who was twice 2nd in the Grand National, and successfully trained and rode many horses in point to points and on the course. His father David also rode successfully in point to points and trained many winners on the course including Half Awake who won the first running of the Greenalls Whiteley Gold Cup at Haydock in 1969 and trained Border Rag who was 2nd at the Cheltenham festival.Before training horses Sandy had a successful rugby career winning the Scottish Championship with Kelso, playing for the South of Scotland on numerous occasions including games against the All Blacks and Australia, and representing Scotland B. He rode in a few point to points but rugby and racing did not mix. Sandy has always farmed at Lambden, but once his rugby days came to an end horses became an even bigger part of his life. Having successfully trained some homebred point to pointers and having had a few winners under Permit, Sandy took out a full license in 2012. His first big win was in 2013 when Netminder won the Wetherbys £60,000 Novice Chase at Ayr on Scottish Grand National Day. With a 17% strike rate over the past three years, Sandy boasts one of the best strike rates in Scotland. He puts his success down to individual attention, hard work and the invaluable support from the Sandy Thomson Racing team.

The Old Bristolians’ Society exists to allow former pupils and staff to maintain contact with other Old Bristolians, and through the Society allow them to support the work of the School. The Society is a separate body from the School and is run almost exclusively by volunteers. The President holds office for a year: other officers and members of the Management Committee are chosen by election and normally stay in office for a longer period. We are always keen to recruit new faces on to the Committee or hear from Old Bristolians prepared to help with the running of events. In particular, we seek more involvement from young Old Bristolians, especially females, in order to reflect the co-educational status of the School. The BGS Foundation aims to bring long-term additional income to the School through charitable giving. This enables the wider BGS family to give something back so that the next generation of children can benefit from extra resources, facilities and bursaries which could not otherwise be afforded from fee income alone. Support comes from parents, former parents, staff and Governors, Old Bristolians, charitable trusts and foundations which makes a genuine difference to the life of our school. The Old Bristolians’ & Foundation Office would be delighted to hear from anyone willing to serve on the Committee or to participate in some other way. In addition, the views of Old Bristolians as to the type of event/activities the Society should be providing are also welcomed.

Hal Higdon began running as a student at the University of Chicago Lab School and continued running competitively at Carleton College in Minnesota, where he won several conference championships. After school, Hal competed 8 times in the Olympic Trials, notching his best finish as 5th place at the 1960 Trials in the 3000 meter steeplechase. In the 1964 Boston Marathon, Hal placed 5th overall and was the first American finisher with his time of 2:21:55. His World Masters Championships M40 record of 9:18.6 in the steeplechase (set in 1975) remains the oldest American masters records in the books. Hal Higdon is a Contributing Editor for Runner’s World and is the magazine’s longest lasting writer, having contributed an article to RW’s second issue in 1966. He also is the author of more than three dozen books, including Marathon: The Utimate Training Guide and the recently published Hal Higdon’s Half Marathon Training. In 2003, the American Society of Journalists and Authors awarded Hal its Career Achievement Award, the highest honor given to writer members. The first question we are often asked, after 'What's your name again?' or 'How do you spell that?', is 'What does it mean?', we wanted a word to demonstrate our point of focus, the delegate.
