Hi, I’m Susie and I deliver personal, professional one-to-one and group tuition for adults online via Skype and Zoom for English (ESL), French, Spanish and Italian.  I have been teaching since 2013 and is my full-time job.  I am passionate about languages and I absolutely love sharing my joy for languages with others! Whether you want to brush up on your holiday phrases, pass an exam or move abroad, I can help.  Regardless of your language level (or lack thereof!), I will coach you to reach your potential and maximise your results, while having a great time learning. As a former student of the Open University, I fully understand the challenges of studying solo and of juggling work, study and personal life. I like to think of myself as a personal trainer for languages; I will be your guide, show you how to achieve great results, but I can’t do the work for you. You get out what you put in; being able to set aside time to study or incorporate your learning into your daily life will be just as important as your lessons.  During your first lesson, we can discover your current level or start from scratch if we need to, as well as create a learning plan tailored to your skillset and interests. It’s never a problem to adapt our plan to cater for Specific Learning Differences or personal preferences, so please do share your learning preferences with me; you can have confidence that I am never, ever going to laugh or be disappointed in your level.  My experience has taught me that confidence is by far the biggest obstacle on the road to learning a language, not aptitude, as you may think or may have been told in the past. I will be there to support you every step of the way on the journey, so you can stop worrying right now about not being good enough. Stop comparing yourself to others; you are unique and the only thing you need to focus on is your own journey.  I have a wealth of experience in exam preparation, in particular for IELTS & Cambridge FCE & CAE exams for English and GCSE & A-level for French & Spanish. Most of my sessions over the years have been delivering tuition to one or two students at a time, however I have run sessions for groups of up to 15 adults. Included within the price, you will receive exclusive access to all of our online teaching materials – accessible during your lessons and 24/7 for self-study to support your learning. I am a full-time tutor, so I offer very flexible hours for my tutoring services and I always endeavour to reply to all enquiries/ correspondance as soon as possible. I work as an independent tutor, as I like to guarantee you consistency, reliability and commitment to you.  Subjects taught: - French & Spanish: KS3, GCSE, iGCSE, A-level (Spanish only) and adult tuition (beginner & intermediate). - English as a Second Language (ESL/ ESOL students): All levels, including preparation for the following exams: Cambridge FCE, CAE, PET, IELTS General Training and Academic, PTE academic and ESOL access exams levels 1-3.  Since 2020, I have been teaching beginner Italian.  I have a competent level of Italian, including a strong understanding of the grammar, which I use with my Italian friends and when travelling in Italy.  If you are looking for beginner Italian for personal interest, conversation, casual use and travel, I can definitely help.  I do not have any official qualifications in Italian, however my background in romance languages (Italian is a Latin-based language which, broadly speaking, I find to have a very similar vocabulary to Spanish with the grammar of French!) and my methodical nature means I would ensure that every lesson is thoroughly planned and carefully checked; I would never teach you anything I am unsure of, as this can be greatly detrimental.  I am not available to help with exam preparation for Italian or to teach more advanced levels.  My lack of qualifications in this subject and the fact that I am not fluent are the reasons that Italian lessons are offered at a lower rate per hour than my other subjects.     What you can expect: A flexible approach & lessons tailored to suit you. A specialist in young adult and adult pedagogy. Flexible tutoring, Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm, Friday 9am-3pm. Responses to all correspondence within 24 hours (working hours, otherwise next working day). Development of all key language skills - reading, listening, speaking & writing. Follow my recommended course or cherry-pick the topics you wish to cover for specific purposes. Gain confidence with conversation for real-life essential situations, not just in a text book Exam preparation and study tips. Discover the culture surrounding your chosen language too; music, film, festivals, celebrations & traditions. Learn modern colloquialisms, idioms and sayings that will impress the natives  Exclusive access to all of my online teaching materials, accessible in class and at home for self-study.   My qualifications: Open University (2013) - 1st Class BA (Hons) Modern Language Studies Open University (2012) - Diploma in French (Other) Open University (2012) - Diploma in Spanish (Other) 150-hour TEFL/ ESL master course, accredited by ACTDEC Understanding IELTS, British Council (6-week course) Understanding language, University of Southampton (4-week course) Cultural studies & modern languages, University of Bristol (4-week course) Dyslexia & foreign language teaching, Lancaster University (4-week course)

Norfolk

I studied B.A Ceramic Design through Anglia Ruskin College, Cambridge, graduating in 1999 to set up my workshop next to Salhouse Broad in Norfolk. My work has always been about attempting to capture the essence of the land - and the patterns imposed on it by Man. Between 1999 and 2007 I made several study trips to Mashiko in Japan to learn from potters such as Hamada Tomo-o, Matsusaki Ken and Kusakabe Masakazu and Euan Craig. The following year I was invited to exhibit in Osaka and then in Tokyo. Through a meeting with Wali Hawes at the Osaka exhibition I was invited to apply for a month long residency in Tokoname with IWCAT. This was an amazing experience and I was delighted to be invited back to Tokoname in 2010 to exhibit. I am delighted to be exhibiting in Tokoname once more in 2023- C19 allowing. In 2005, with a bursary from Creative Arts East to work with local Thatchers and make work inspired by their Craft, I developed a glaze suitable for my electric kiln using the thatching reed that had been discarded. Using the thatch gave my work an originality and a sense of place unobtainable out side of the Broads area. Beginning in 2017, Hoveton Great Broad was drained of silt by an ongoing Conservation project. With kind permission from the owner of the Broad I was able to collect some silt by boat. Now firing with my Fred Olsen design wood kiln, affectionately known as "Fast Freda" I developed a glaze from the silt. This then led to using the glaze with stretched forms and eventually to Soda firing in the wood kiln. Freda however didn't much care for this, so it was sadly a short lived soda romance. I continued to wood fire, with a small Fred Olsen design fast fire kiln until recently. In 2018 I was commissioned by the Dean of Norwich Cathedral to make an enormous piece candle stand, this huge piece is now situated in the Lady Chapel for people to light a small candle for loved ones. It is lovely to have work in a permanent presence in my home city and to continue the tradition of potters having work in Cathedrals. I revisited Japan in 2018, my 10th visit, this time with a fellow artist and the specific purpose of visiting the Temple and Shrine gardens to draw inspiration for forthcoming work and exhibitions. Having not quite seen all we needed to, a return trip was made in early 2020 providing me with superb images and memories. The exhibition ABSTRACT JAPAN finally took place in September 2021 at Mandell's Gallery in Norwich and was a great success.

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, MG, YA, ADULT FICTION Molly Jamieson has been working at United Agents Ltd since 2017, working across adult and children’s books, and before that she worked at Curtis Brown. She has recently started building her own client list which already includes million-copy selling authors and bestsellers. Molly has a particular interest in scifi and fantasy across both adult and children’s books. For a sense of her taste, she has recently read and enjoyed Sistersong by Lucy Holland, Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, Uprooted by Naomi Novik, The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, and Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. She loves anything with high stakes, characters you would follow anywhere, big stories, expansive worldbuilding, breathless romance, and threads of adventure running throughout. She is also looking for commercial romantic fiction in all shapes and forms. She has a real soft spot for classic tropes, a great sense of humour, and anything with a clear pitch that makes you sit up and take notice, but in the end it all comes down to chemistry. In this area, she has recently read and loved The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, Book Lovers by Emily Henry, The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren, and The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood. She also represents children’s authors and illustrators in all genres, from picture books up to YA. In one single word document, Molly would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the first three chapters or 5,000 words of your manuscript in a single word document, whichever is shorter. For picture books, please submit a covering letter and 2 picture books in a single document. Please send EITHER picture books OR another genre, not both in one submission. ONE SPACE LEFT! 5th December Megan Carroll #Agent121. Looking for: MG, YA, ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: MG, YA, ADULT FICTION, ADULT NON-FICTION, NON-FICTION FOR 7+ Megan Carroll is looking for writers in a variety of areas, and from a wide range of backgrounds – she is particularly keen to hear from Black, Asian, and LGBTQIA+ writers. Her main areas of focus this year are adult fiction and non-fiction, as well as non-fiction for 7+, and MG and YA fiction. In Fiction, Megan is keen to see high-concept love stories (think The Flat Share or The Lock In) for both commercial and reading group readers. She’d love to see those familiar romance tropes – enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, love triangles, forbidden love etc. – with underrepresented characters at the centre. She is also looking for historical fiction and gothic horror (think Laura Purcell, Stacey Halls and Silvia Moreno-Garcia) – anything that has a creepy, uneasy undertone is likely for Megan’s list. Megan is also actively looking for upmarket fiction and would love to see layered family drama, contemporary stories about life today and darkly comic novels that explore a specific time, place or experience. In Non-Fiction, Megan is keen to hear from experts in their field talking about topics relating to film, music, true crime, popular culture, history and issues from largely unrepresented perspectives. She is keen to see memoir, narrative non-fiction and essay collections. In Children’s and YA, she is keen to see contemporary YA with humour, and romance at the heart – fun and emotional stories that appeal to the interests and issues of the teenage readers. She’d also love to see thrillers and horror stories for this age group too. It’s unlikely that high fantasy novels for YA readers will be right for her, but she is keen to see stories with fantasy elements in a real world setting. On the younger end, Megan is looking for funny, contemporary middle grade – think Louise Rennison and Karen McCombie – and anything creepy and spooky for 8-12 year old readers too. She’d love to find something like Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and is keen to find original adventure stories in both fantasy and realistic settings. Megan would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the first three chapters or 5,000 words of your manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Megan is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. SOLD OUT! 12th December Maddy Belton #Agent121. Looking for: MG, YA, CHILDREN'S NON-FICTION, ADULT FICTION

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: MG, YA AND ADULT SCI-FI / FANTASY, CHILDREN'S NON-FICTION After graduating from St Andrews University with a degree in English Literature and Art History, Maddy followed her love of literature to an internship at non-fiction literary agency Graham Maw Christie. At GMC, Maddy worked her way up to Agent and built a list of authors who wrote for both for adults and children, spanning history, tarot, and nature writing. An avid reader of anything magical, Maddy joined Madeleine Milburn in 2022 to build a list specialising in SFF. Maddy would like to see SFF across all genres for all ages, including: grim dark, thriller, historical, romance, cosy fantasy, sci-fi, epic, YA fantasy, dark academia, contemporary fantasy, fantasy middle-grade, mythology, fairy tale and queer fantasy. Inspiring children’s non-fiction. She loves worlds to get lost in, adventures that transform what it means to be a hero, and unique magic that offers as many problems as solutions. She likes books that make her cry and books that change her mind. Above all, when she finishes a story about another world, she wants it to have taught her a lesson which helps her live in this one. She loves all fantasy, but favours richly imagined, complex worlds with a history to discover and a future to protect. Worldbuilding is one of her favourite aspects of this genre and she is always looking for a new, dense world with series potential. Think Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere or the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the bigger the better! She also likes character-driven fantasy with a diverse cast to root for (or root against) and she wants to see a range of different relationships depicted authentically. She particularly like epics that dip into big, universal themes such as grief, climate change, or war and which ask impossible questions in the vein of R.F. Kuang or N.K. Jemisin. She is also excited by authors that play with form and language in a fantasy setting. In YA, she is looking for much the same as in an adult fantasy, but with younger protagonists and a closer focus on relationships. She wants to see the tropes she knows and loves in new and exciting forms and her favourite YA books often centre around belonging and becoming. She likes a dash of romance in everything, because she is sentimental that way, but it’s particularly important in the YA space. Sci-fi is a big passion of hers, especially when it comes with a strong hook. She is a huge fan of Becky Chamber’s The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and Michaiah Johnson’s The Space Between Worlds. She likes space as a metaphor, and would love something that explores different alien species. Please send her your space operas and sci-fi romances which combine space, magic and mayhem! In fantasy middle grade, she favours whimsy and animal companions; she would love to follow a group of kids through magic school. She tends to look for plenty of humour with a strong friendship at the centre, and she wants middle grade stories which engage with the concerns of children growing up as well as offering an all-important escape (preferably on a dragon/unicorn’s back). She is also looking for children’s non-fiction for all ages. In this space, she wants something as creative as it is informative, and thinks diverse voices are increasingly important. Maddy would like you to submit a covering letter, one page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5000 words) of your completed manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Maddy is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. 17th February Alice Caprio #Agent121. Looking for: MG, YA, NA, ADULT FICTION

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: MG, YA, NA, ADULT FICTION Alice joined Felicity Bryan Associates in 2023 from London Literary Scouting, where she specialised in children’s, YA, and SFF and worked closely with publishers and media companies around the world. She is actively building a list that spans middle grade and YA fiction across all genres, commercial adult fiction, and romance and fantasy for all ages.  Alice is on the hunt for stories that are smart, commercial and bold, with a clear international appeal. She is looking for books with fresh and exciting concepts, whose voices can cross borders and speak out about important topics in an accessible and authentic manner. She is passionate about showcasing diverse and underrepresented voices in a joyful and uplifting way.  This year, she’d really love to find something special in the YA space. She’s open to all genres and is particularly interested in character-driven stories with lively storytelling, a strong emotional core, and attention-grabbing premises. She’s a fan of high-concept, speculative, historical and contemporary romance, heists, dystopias, and social thrillers with a twist.  In middle grade, Alice is drawn to sweeping adventures, big-concept ideas, and stories with a speculative or magical feel. She appreciates middle grade novels that do not talk down to the reader but remain fast-paced and fun. Some of her favourite authors include Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Michelle Harrison, Elle McNicoll, Jordan Lees and Jack Meggitt-Phillips. On the adult side, Alice is looking for fantasy that combines strong commercial appeal with a unique concept. She enjoys well-plotted, immersive fantasy with atmospheric settings and imaginative magic systems. She is currently on the lookout for something exceptional in the dark academia space. When reading romance, she is drawn to lively secondary characters, unusual set-ups, engaging dialogue and irresistible chemistry between the leads. She would love to find the next Emily Henry or Ali Hazelwood, romance with emotional depth and a compelling voice. Humour is a plus and she enjoys a good trope, if explored creatively. Alice is also open to working with authors within the romance and fantasy genres who have previously self-published, particularly if they have a TikTok or online presence. She’s not the best agent for hard sci-fi, horror and hefty epic/military fantasy with multiple-POVs.  Alice would like you to submit a covering letter, a one-page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5,000 words) of your manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Alice is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. 2nd December Gyamfia Osei #Agent121. Looking for: PICTURE BOOKS / CHAPTER BOOKS / MG / YA / NEW ADULT inc GRAPHIC NOVELS

5.0(1)

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS / CHAPTER BOOKS / MG / YA / NEW ADULT inc GRAPHIC NOVELS Gyamfia Osei joined ANA in 2023 as a Literary Agent in the UK department. She was previously an agent at The Good Literary Agency, where she began building her list of authors. Recent successes include a ‘significant’ 6-figure pre-empt for Busayo Matuluko’s YA debut ‘Til Death, a 5-way auction for Quiet Storm by Kimberly Whittam and the shortlisting of Ebinehita Iyere’s Girlhood, Unfiltered at the 2023 British Book Awards. At ANA, Gyamfia is focusing on on developing the agency’s list of children’s authors, while also representing a bespoke list of commercial adult fiction and narrative non-fiction. In the Children’s space, Gyamfia would love to find contemporary stories that are full of heart and joy-driven books across all genres (think Clare Weze, Kimberly Whittam and Elle McNicoll). Funny middle-grade and YA horror are currently at the top of her list and she is also keen to read more teen projects (think Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Glow Up Lara Bloom) this year. She is very interested in finding a graphic novel or illustrated project for either MG or YA readers. In the older fiction space, Gyamfia enjoys well-plotted, fast-paced narratives with authentic characters who lodge themselves in her mind long after she’s finished reading (think Sadie, Verity and Girl A). She’s open to a broad range of genres, but would be particularly keen to see romantasy, cosy crime, contemporary romance and tightly plotted domestic noir. Please note that Gyamfia doesn’t consider literary fiction and, in the commercial space, she is not hugely interested in very high fantasy, trauma-focused stories or particularly gruesome horror. In the non-fiction space, she would be happy to consider commercial narrative non-fiction and cultural history projects (think Brit(ish), It’s Not That Radical and Everything I Know About Love). She is very open when it comes to Children’s non-fiction but would be particularly interested to consider unique cookbooks aimed at young chefs, books exploring mental health/wellness and projects that bring the experiences of marginalised children to the forefront. Gyamfia would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the opening three chapters (max 5,000 words). For picture books please send two texts and a covering letter. For non-fiction please supply a cover letter and proposal with up to 5,000 words of your sample text. Please send EITHER picture books OR another genre, not both in one submission. LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, MG, YA, ADULT FICTION Clare Wallace joined the Darley Anderson Agency in January 2011 and is building both the Darley Anderson Children’s Agency and the Darley Anderson Illustration Agency lists as well as taking on adult fiction for debut authors. Clare is particularly looking for funny chapter books for younger readers at the moment, as well as contemporary MG, YA fantasy, romance, and rom coms, especially with underrepresented protagonists. For picture books she has the widest taste, from daft to lyrical, rhyming to prose. As well as being busy with the children’s and illustration agencies, Clare is open to debut adult fiction submissions that could be described as book club, rom-com, romance, saga, reading group, fantasy or historical fiction. She often doesn’t know what she’s looking for until she finds it (although she is not the person for steampunk or space opera). She represents picture books, middle-grade, teenage and YA and debut adult fiction. The clients Clare represents include Perdita & Honor Cargill, Caroline Crowe, Tom Ellen, Martyn Ford, Stewart Foster, Olivia Hope, A M Howell, Polly Ho-Yen, Rachel Ip, Beth Reekles, J.P. Rose, Lindsay Galvin, Dave Rudden, Deirdre Sullivan and Efua Traoré. Whatever the age range, Clare loves a big hook, a lot of heart, and a standout voice. She loves to discover memorable new characters, bold and unique voices, strong concepts and gripping storytelling. This list gives a good indication of Clare's taste but if your submission doesn’t fit a description here, it doesn’t mean Clare doesn’t want to receive it. Clare would like you to send a covering letter, a one page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5000 words) of your manuscript. For picture books, please submit a covering letter and up to three completed texts. Please send EITHER picture books OR another genre, not both in one submission. (In addition to the paid sessions, Clare is kindly offering one free session for low income/underrepresented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event.
