In her 91st year Beth Chatto set up the Education Trust to develop educational opportunities through The Garden for everyone. The aim of the Trust is to inspire, educate, and to promote enjoyment and wellbeing for all through gardens and the outdoor environment. Established in 2015 Beth Chatto Education Trust has developed a varied annual programme of courses, workshops, projects and activities for adults, children and community groups. The programme consists of firm favourites that are retained each year and new courses that keep the programme current and interesting. There is something to suit everyone whether you are an experienced horticulturalist or a novice keen to try your hand at something new. We offer RHS Theory qualifications, practical gardening courses, one-day creative workshops, lectures, school visits, Forest school and children’s holiday garden activities. These can run for a morning, a day, termly or up to two years for the RHS qualifications. The Beth Chatto Education Trust aims to facilitate people to access the outdoors, enjoy learning in our gardens and connect with the environment to enhance wellbeing. Many of our courses are based in the Beth Chatto Gardens in our purpose-built education building, the 'Willow Room'. In addition to the formal gardens, we also have a separate ‘wild garden’ which we use with children and for hands-on practical learning. Courses and events can be found and booked on our website. Deborah grew up on a Lincolnshire farm surrounded by inspirational people and places. Training originally at Leeds Metropolitan University and Berkshire School of Art and Design, she has worked extensively as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator. Her clients have included RHS, National Trust, Natural History Museum, Chatsworth House and Dunoon Mugs. Whilst developing a range of paint-by-numbers kits, an interest in making art accessible to those without specific training grew. This led to the creation of ‘Make a Masterpiece’, translating beautiful landscapes and wildlife designs into easy to achieve guided painting and craft events for adults and children. She currently lives and works in Reading as an Artist in Residence at a local school specialising in murals and running Art Clubs.

Clare is a graphic/surface pattern designer based in the UK who works from her home studio in Cheshire. She has created a range of stationary and home decor products that she sells online and is looking forward to exhibiting them with Country Living Magazine at RHS Tatton in July 2022. Being inspired heavily by nature means Clare can’t resist collecting plants and beach combing while on family walks with Bobby, the Bichon Frise who is rather famous with the locals and known as ‘no-eye Bob’ (yes, he has no eyes!). Clare has a passion for creating and printing designs beginning with hand-drawn motifs and one-off Gelli plate prints, eventually digitally manipulating them to the form final designs.

Eden Wedding Florist and Flower School Eden is a Wedding Florist and Flower School based near Taunton, set up in 1999 by Jane Cowling. At the end of 2014, Eden specialised to concentrate on providing top quality wedding flowers and their rapidly expanding Flower School. Eden have recently moved from their Town centre location to a beautiful countryside studio in Higher Ford. Eden is a team of two very talented Florists who have accolades such as Gold Medals at Chelsea Flower Show and widespread success in other national and international competitions. One of the most rewarding things is the transformation from students saying ‘I will never be able to make a design like that’ to ‘wow! I did make a design like that!’ It’s great passing on the knowledge Jane opened her first flower shop at the age of 19, after an upbringing in catering. A pretty tea rooms with a florist business at the back in her home town of Bampton in Mid Devon caught her eye. Within a few months, the flower bug had bitten. It soon dominated and the flower business grew and grew into a successful, well known, design led florist in it’s current location in Taunton, now specialized as a wedding florist and flower school. Achievements: – Jane has a level 5 Master diploma in floristry, has competed in many national competitions, the most recent being the prestigious ‘RHS Chelsea Florist Of The Year’ competition in 2017, She’s hoping to find the time to challenge herself again soon. She has also featured in national floristry publications and taught at Bicton College in South Devon. Jane’s fondness of teaching was indulged with the move to St.James Street in Taunton where she launched Eden Flower School running workshops, short courses and demonstrations in the distinctive ‘Eden’ style. Jane lives on the outskirts of Wiveliscombe in rural Somerset with her husband and two sons. My Floristry highlight was being crowned Chelsea florist of the year 2014 at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show with my Gold medal winning ‘fantasy floral dress' Lisa started her career in floristry straight from secondary school, when stumbling upon an advertisement for an apprenticeship as a florist in her home town of Chard. Floristry hadn’t even occurred to her but a natural talent and passion for floral design has seen her work her way from apprentice in Chard to Manager at Eden in Taunton where she has been since the beginning of Eden. Lisa’s main role is assisting Jane with the wedding flowers and anything technical, but she has been known to teach the occasional class at Eden’s flower school, her specialty being the paper wreath designs! Achievements: – Lisa has a level 4 Higher diploma in floristry, she studied at The Academy of Floral Design, and was taught by English Dutch Master Tina Parkes. She is a keen competitor in the floristry world, competing in national and international competitions, The most prestigious being crowned Chelsea florist of the year 2014 with her Gold medal winning ‘fantasy floral frock at Chelsea flower show. She competed again at Chelsea 2015 and gained another gold with her Tulgey Woods inspired fantasy floral tree. Other wins include a silver medal at the Chelsea flower show competing for Chelsea Florist of the Year 2012 with her diamond jubilee chandelier and 2 silver & 3 bronze awards in Fusion flowers International designer of the year 2010 & 2011 &2013 and the most recent is a silver medal for RHS Chelsea Flower show 2018.

Willow and Wire Sculptor Victoria or Vik as she likes to be called hails from South Somerset; home of ancient kingdoms, fables and roads less travelled, these origins feed into her work, representing elements of the natural world and those who celebrate it. Vik began her creative journey as a theatre designer and maker, using a willow framework for carnivalesque costumes, from here she developed her practice to bring her dynamic sketches to life, creating forms from willow and wire that encapsulate her love of texture and mass. Now her Coach House Studio in the heart of Mid Devon, is her base where she works to commission on a range of projects for large and small gardens, parklands, orchards and public spaces; working with clients to create pieces that sit harmoniously in their environment. Clients include designers, private collectors, companies, charities, councils and housing groups in addition she has created large scale sculptures for The Woodland Trust, The RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Torre Abbey.

I started out as a freelance gardener in London in 2016, escaping desk-bound corporate life. After working for award-winning designer Gabrielle Gardens, studying RHS Level 2 in Horticulture at Capel Manor College, and a year working for the amazing and extraordinary Garden Team at Chelsea Physic Garden, I left for the wilder, greener lands of Somerset. Wilde Green was set up in 2019 to provide quality and bespoke gardening services to residential and commercial spaces in South Somerset, West Wiltshire, and North Dorset. In 2020, I launched our floristry service, offering artisan bouquets and locally sourced gifts, bespoke arrangements and designs for events and weddings, and providing regular orders for private and corporate clients. In 2021, we expanded the business, moving into a studio at Martock Workspace, allowing us to set up a retail space, offer workshops, classes, a variety of events, and showcase the work of local artists and creators. Whilst we aren't currently offering gardening services, I am always happy to have a chat about horticulture requirements and ideas, and can recommend other wonderful garden designers, landscapers, and maintenance gardeners.
