Karin Schamroth is a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist in Deafness, and creator of smiLE Therapy. She worked in the National Health Service in the UK for 30 years. For 20 years, with deaf babies, pre-schoolers, primary and secondary aged students for Whittington Health NHS (North London). She graduated with a BSc from Manchester University in 1984, and taught English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) for 4 years. She qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1990 from City University. She has worked with Deaf children & young people, in a range of setting – units in mainstream schools (both Total Communication and Oral) and Deaf Schools (Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children, and Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Pupils). Her background in TEFL teaching, with its structured test-teach-test communicative approach, was invaluable in the development of smiLE. In addition, she was trained by Jenny Mosley in Quality Circle Time. This has had a significant influence on the group respect principles used in delivering smiLE Therapy. She was advisor for three MSc projects at City University on the effectiveness of the smiLE approach – Alton (2008), Lawlor (2009), Curtin (2018) and supported G. Medone with her MEd project at Birmingham University, School of Education, on Assessing smiLE Therapy’s relevance to young people with autism, unpublished (2015). She is currently clinical supervisor for a Clinical Doctorate Research Fellow (NIHR). Karin now works Independently, developing smiLE Therapy modules with adolescents and young adults and runs the company that trains professionals in smiLE Therapy. Karin has trained Speech and Language Therapists, Teachers of the Deaf, Special Needs Teachers, Mainstream Teachers, SENCOs, Occupational Therapists, Communication Support Workers and Special Needs Assistants, to use smiLE Therapy since 2008. Karin, together with Emma Lawlor, wrote the first smiLE Therapy book, published in October 2015 by Routledge Publishing

We are House of Pain Academy, one of the most highly regarded professional wrestling academies in the UK. Through our supportive family atmosphere we aim to help everyone with an interest in becoming a Professional Wrestler, the opportunity to do so within a safe and comfortable environment. We are uniquely able to prepare you for a career within British Wrestling, with our excellent and established links to touring companies and regional promotions around the UK. The House of Pain ethos is that you will be supported in your wrestling training journey, and whether you would like professional wrestling to be your career in the future, or whether you’re looking for a new hobby, your training will be treated with the same respect and care. We think the Academy offers the perfect blend of a fun environment, and a serious training facility. Its down to the individual as to how they use the opportunities we will make available to them. We are based in Snienton, Nottingham, close to the city centre and with good transport links from other parts of the UK, being close to the M1, Nottingham Railway Station and East Midlands Airport. We run a full time facility, which currently hosts daily classes, 7 days a week, and at least 6 professional shows per month around Nottinghamshire. We hold regular monthly open days for prospective new students to try out Professional Wrestling at the same, in a welcoming environment where they can all learn the first steps together, guided by our trainers and senior members of the academy, after which they are welcome to join in with any of our beginners level classes. The Latin motto of our college is Pro Petri Fide which means For the Love of Peter. Jesus made Saint Peter the leader of the Apostles and it was on Saint Peter’s faith that Jesus said he would build his Church, Bishop Milner Catholic College is part of this Church and our faith is indeed the faith of Peter. Therefore, our college is committed to offering Christian love and care to each person within it irrespective of their faith background. As such, everyone is valued as a gift from God and treated with utmost respect. Our History Up to 1960 there was no secondary school in Dudley for Roman Catholic children. At the end of 1956 approval was given to build a three storey Roman Catholic secondary school for 400 students. Construction of Bishop Milner Catholic School began September 1957. The build cost of this new school was estimated at around £191,000, it was to include a gymnasium, science and art rooms, a library and a large assembly hall. As the school buildings neared completion, it was decided that the school would be named after Bishop John Milner, the vicar Apostolic of the Midlands. The official opening took place on 21st September 1960 and was conducted by the Most Rev. Francis Grimshaw, Archbishop of Birmingham. There have been many changes to the original building over the years. In 1963 a three floor extension was added to the main building along with a new dining hall. In September 1981 a “Secretary’s” block was also opened. In September 1994 a new large two storey building was built, which included drama and dance studios. In 2003 construction was well underway of what was to become the Bishop Milner Catholic College of today , with multiple ICT suites, Learning Resource Centre, study areas and many new class rooms to replace the 1960s buildings.

As Chair of Governors at Blythe Bridge High School & Sixth Form, I would like to extend a warm welcome to those of you visiting our website. The governing body is involved with school life at many levels, ranging from ensuring that support functions (finance, premises management, health & safety) are completely aligned with the strategic vision of the school from a quality of education perspective, to sharing in the successes of the many talented students through Governor Awards and community events. I am incredibly grateful to my fellow governors for voluntarily devoting so much of their time and effort to the school community. Our governing body comprises elected representatives from the local authority, staff, parents and members of the community and the combined experience, skills and knowledge is vast. The job description for governors is clear, set the strategic direction of the school, hold school leaders to account for improvement and ensuring that the school budget is spent appropriately. As such, much of our time is spent working with Mrs Johnson and the senior leadership team to continually review and refine the quality of our provision through our subcommittee meetings.
