Westlands School

Sittingbourne

Welcome to Westlands School, where our well-established reputation for success is built on an inclusive, nurturing and aspirational learning environment. At our school, traditional values concerning personal responsibility, excellent behaviour and hard work are combined with a strong sense of community that encourages kindness and care for one another. This ethos is encapsulated by the school’s RADAR system which promotes Respect, Achievement, Diversity, Aspiration and Resilience. Our staff lead by example and work hard to ensure that our students feel happy, valued and secure. The proactive pastoral care and support we provide means that student wellbeing permeates throughout our school. High-quality teaching and learning and a rich curriculum provides our students with opportunities to develop as independent learners and allows them to progress no matter what their background, learning needs, gifts or talents. As a large school we are able to offer a wide range of facilities and courses to appeal to students who are academic, creative, and practical. There really is something for everybody. Academic progress, especially in literacy and numeracy, is a top priority. Our results suggest that we are right to emphasise these key skills, as our students’ academic success and the progress they make has been noted through successive OFSTED reports and in the Performance Tables year after year. I hope that our website provides you with a flavour of what Westlands School has to offer. But I would encourage any prospective parents and students to come and visit us, when possible, during the school day, to see for yourself why we are so proud of the students and staff who make up our school community.

Spd Tuition And Coaching

London

Hello! I am Samantha Dholakia, the founder of SPD Tuition and Coaching and creator of The Behaviour Balance System© (TBBS) and The Behaviour Bank© (TBB). I am an Executive Coach and mentor, Neurolinguistic Programmer and Consultant Trainer. With over 15 years experience in the education sector, I have worked in multiple managerial and leadership roles, including deputy head, RMT consultant trainer, educational consultant and accredited CPD creation for companies such as Twinkle and TTS. I am the host of @spdtuitionandcoaching which supports thousands of parents and teachers daily with behaviour strategies and wellbeing support, and in 2020 I set up our SPD children’s Confidence and Communications Coaching Programme, of which I could not be prouder. Not only have we had great results in the social, emotional and behaviour impact, but also academic achievement. Some of the children in our programmes make over 1 year’s academic progress in less than 12 weeks. It was in fact the children that encouraged me to support with the adults around them, and I am so pleased that I listened to their wise words. The Behaviour Balance System I created TBBS in 2021 to support the desperate need for an alternative approach to behaviour, providing strategies that not only create sustainable change but aid wellbeing, support good mental health, build confidence and resilience - and also accelerates academic achievement. With every technique and tool backed by the neuroscience behind behaviour, our TBBS strategies not only make sense, they WORK. We now support schools, nurseries, universities, Local Authorities, charities and a whole host of other providers globally through our training, workshops and 360 online portal, TBB. Underpinned by three elements, physiology, belief and communication, TBBS is an alternative approach to traditional behaviour systems. An inclusive, revolutionary behaviour programme that supports behaviour through working with children’s needs not outcomes, it is a research led approach that removes external rewards and punitive punishments whilst prioritising emotional intelligence and literacy to empowerment through independence and intrinsic motivation. Our mission is to equip educators, providers and parents with strategies THAT WORK. TBBS removes the behaviour firefighting and power struggles, through promoting a healthy and collaborative culture in homes, classrooms and various other environments. Within TBBS we have brought together several core pedagogies, including trauma informed approaches, restorative practice, emotional regulation and many more. TBBS focuses on teaching children about their brains and how to use them most effectively. Through TBBS educators, providers, parents and carers can empower children in regulating their emotions more independently. The Behaviour Bank TBB is THE ONLY 360 online platform, in the world, that bridges home and school with a collective approach. This platform allows us to support parents, educators and providers that may not feel confident in reaching out directly. It allows provides a platform for ongoing support through a variety of delivery methods. TBB takes our members on a personalised journey full of downloadable handbooks, resources, short courses, live workshops and bitesize clips. It also offers connection through its community page, which enables members to share experiences, tips and celebrate their wins together.  The Behaviour Bank supports educators, providers and parents in saving time and energy for their WHY as the invest in their HOW www.spdtuitionandcoaching.co.uk

Yoga with Rebecca

I was introduced to Yoga & Meditation as a teenager in the 1970s, have been teaching since 2014. Recognising the different qualities yoga can bring, I offer a range of physical styles, some very gentle and others more strenuous, along with meditation and relaxation. While I love the sense of strength, openness, and resilience, that a strong physical practice can offer, I’m increasingly astonished by the transformative power of more gentle and subtle approaches to bodywork, allowing a more intimate sensing of the body, the breath, and emotions and bringing an ease into being in the world. I embrace the variety and seek to share this in my classes as I draw on the influences of a range of body-mind practices – some thousands of years old, some contemporary – including Hatha Yoga, Yin-Restorative Yoga, Somatics, Feldenkrais & Yoga Nidra. I love to teach people of all ages and levels of experience in a way that encourages a deep inner listening with a sense of ease, pleasure, and fun. Someone said to me once, Yoga is too sacred to be taken over seriously! A typical class will start with a gentle enquiry into the body and breath, slowly adding movement (influenced by the Feldenkrais method), and gradually build into synchronizing breath and stronger movement (the meaning of Vinyasa), to then work with static posture alignment and/or melting into the meditative, less dynamic postures of Yin. Focus upon the breath is a vital part of all my classes, whether simply tuning in to the simplicity of a natural breath or more subtle breathing control and Pranayama. I sometimes include meditation as part of a regular class and also offer separate Meditation/Yoga Nidra courses. I love language, literature and philosophy and read and write as much as a I can – often weaving ancient Yogic texts and contemporary poetry or prose into the experience of my classes. I am Certified as a Yoga Teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga and as an iRest Yoga Nidra Teacher with the iRest Institute and am currently undergoing training in the Feldenkrais Method.

Positive Educational Psychology

Cambridge

Being Swedish in origin I feel very strongly that our wellbeing and happiness should be more prominent in our way of life and the concept of Lagom, which means ‘just about right, not too much or too little’ is a key concept to Swedish people. This balance between work and pleasure is perhaps more clearly articulated in Scandinavia and sits well together with the key foundation of the Positive Psychology movement. After my initial Psychology degree I worked in the Further Education Sector and I still have a particular interest in adolescents and in Post 16 work. I did my Educational Psychology training at the Tavistock Clinic in London in the mid 90s, and I had a good grounding in Attachment and Resilience based frameworks as well as Family Therapy. Over the years, I have also specialised in specific learning difficulties as well as more recently in Positive Psychology with a particular interest in Coaching Psychology. Over the last year I have received Positive Psychology Coaching from one of Britain’s most well established Positive Psychologists, Miriam Akhtar. Being on the receiving end of good coaching has given me a personal insight into its transformational powers. Having been an educational psychologist for over 20 years in a number of different settings, including both Local Authorities and the Independent Sector, as well as assessments for students in Higher Education, I came across Positive Psychology when experiencing personal and health changes in my own life. I applied a number of Positive Psychology strategies such as The Keys To Happier Living, (See Action for Happiness below) and I learnt to keep my attention and focus in the right place in order to promote wellbeing. I learnt what my Character Strengths were which enabled me to see myself in a different light. I feel strongly that everybody would benefit from knowledge of these principles. I am therefore keen to provide Positive Psychology training and insights to individuals, families and schools. Registered as a Practising Psychologist with the Health and Care Professional’s Council (HCPC) Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) Full Member of the Association for Educational Psychologists (AEP) Member of the Association for Child Psychologists in Private Practice (Achippp) Member of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA)

Empowering individuals and teams to thrive, navigate the ups and downs in life and reach their potential both personally and professionally is a real privilege and a passion. Resilience, confidence, collaboration, trust and emotional wellbeing (meaning purpose, strengths and values) are the areas in which I’m most interested. My enthusiasm for coaching evolved through my 35 years of sales and management, mostly within pharmaceutical sales with Pfizer Oncology and an early career in recruitment. From sales performance coaching in 2018 I progressed to personal development coaching and at the start of the COVID 19 pandemic I started coaching via the NHS leadership academy and private sector. It was at this time that I also trained to be a cancer coach with Cancer Support UK. Whether facilitating team and leadership development days or 1:1 coaching I bring energy, fun and creativity to virtual and face to face interactions. As an ILM5 coach and facilitator my approach is empathetic, encouraging, inspiring and strengths and solution focused, drawing on a variety of coaching models and leadership practices including Appreciative Inquiry and Brene Brown’s Dare to Lead. I am an accredited Conversations Worth Having practitioner, an ILM wellbeing coach, a cognitive behavioural therapy practitioner, a mental health first aider and Mental Health Swims host. I also provide cancer coaching and support for Cancer Support UK, Youth Cancer Trust and ALK Positive and EGFR positive UK. Inspired by my love of the outdoors, and a Nature as Co-Facilitator programme, I like to weave the natural world into our conversations where possible. My top Gallop Strengths are Ideation, Strategic, Focus, Achiever & Competition. Simply put, I love bringing people together to define the challenge, establish the best of what has been before and explore what is possible in the future. “Everything we need is within” is my coaching philosophy. What can we learn from nature about resourcing ourselves and adapting to life’s ups and downs? Identifying my clients’ purpose, meaning, signature strengths and values is part of this process. Adapting to change can be uncomfortable and, like trees, this can be when we grow the most. When we create the right conditions, we can blossom.

hrough years of experience and her own meditation and mindfulness practice, she has developed a unique and richly relaxing blend of wellbeing and stress management which brings together a number of practices from Laughter Yoga, Meditation and mindfulness. As well as Mindfulness, Sue is a trainer in Emotional Intelligence and is EQi 2.0 qualified, she is also a qualified DiSC practitioner. Supporting people to understand their emotional intelligence and behavioural traits means she encourages her clients to learn and adopt mindfulness techniques. Sue is keen to bring mindfulness into every element of her life and work – and through that to bring it to everyone she is in contact with. She loves showing people how they can support themselves by seperating out their beliefs and thoughts, and gain more understanding on how both beliefs and thoughts are driving actions – which may often not be productive or work out so well. “Like everyone, I have a busy life, I’ve run my own business since 1997, balanced it with bringing up a family, and worked on a number of community campaigns including sustainability and protecting green spaces (one of which resulted in me standing in the General Elections) and throughout that time, I have endured plenty of moments of stress. Mindfulness and Laughter have been key elements in my life that have kept me on an even keel” Sue’s work in Mindfulness means she is often in demand by individuals, local businesses and organisations. She often delivers bespoke training for stressed out executives and employees, and runs mindfulness retreats in Devon for people to get a taster of mindfulness, or go deeper into their own practice. “It is a real pleasure to work with clients to support them not only in their communications challenges, but also in their personal success plans. I use a range of techniques, including Mindfulness, visualisation, humour, coaching and even EFT to support my clients.” Sue is also a trainer for Big Results Training and Creative Laughter and she delivers courses throughout the UK to support individual wellbeing and emotional resilience.
