Wise Studies

London

Wise Studies was founded in 2014 by Ryan Spielman and Spencer Barron. Our mission is to make available in-depth audio learning courses focusing on the texts and teachings of the world’s great contemplative traditions. We work with leading scholars, practitioners and experts in their field to produce quality education for serious students of contemplative study. We aim to produce courses that are engaging and informative with authentic, well-researched scholarship supporting the topics we present. We are not only the founders of Wise Studies we are consumers, as well! One of the reasons we are producing these courses is for our own study. We are passionate about deepening our knowledge of the traditions that have brought so much wisdom and joy into our lives. We consider it an ongoing lifelong process. It is our hope to disseminate these courses to a broad audience and bridge the gap between the academic world and general public. It is important for us to maintain the rigorous standards that scholars have for their research, yet, we also want to make this research available and digestible for non-academics. Our authors have done an amazing job of producing in-depth material that is clear, comprehensible and engaging. img_4469 Ryan Spielman I have been a Yoga and meditation teacher since 1995. From a young age the spiritual journey has been the driving force of my life. Wise Studies is the natural progression of my passionate interest, deepening my understanding of the traditions that have brought so much happiness and peace into my life. In addition to my offerings as a Yoga teacher I also lead groups and facilitate workshops dedicated to personal growth and awakening in London and around the world. I host the Lonely Guru podcast dialoging with prominent figures in the world of yoga. I also write and perform spiritual comedy songs that I’m sure Wise Studies customers will enjoy. www.ryantrue.com. Spencer Barron I loved Religious Education, History and English at school. I began an intensive search for personal liberation quickly discovering a spiritual teaching that had its roots in Hindu mysticism. I met Ryan while participating in a practice with truth & authenticity at its core underpinned by the wisdom traditions we were both passionate about. Establishing and facilitating this relational practice in London and throughout the world I have expanded my interests and understanding. The creation and development of Wise Studies is a natural continuation along this path. In addition to my work with Wise Studies I spend a lot of my time in the community working with disadvantaged adults and children with learning disabilities. Share This Story, Choose Your Platform!

We are IVE (formerly CapeUK) was established as an incorporated company in April 1997 and registered as a charity in April 1999. Inspired by radical new models of creative education, the company was originally set up as a research and development organisation. CapeUK looked to drill down into the creative process and explore how it might be used to drive improvements in teaching and learning. We became influential in relation to policy development and established a national and international reach in relation to championing creativity and professional learning. We also acted as advisors to Government on the importance of creativity and how it might be developed as a transferable skill. By 2014 we realised there was an opportunity to diversify our work and utilise the learning that 17 years of research and development had provided us. It was clear there was significant appetite beyond the education and cultural sectors for programmes that were aimed at developing the creative capacity and competencies of the workforce, and particularly in leadership. We have therefore spent the last 5 years designing and delivering training that aims to teach creativity as a transferable skill and how to create the right environment for creativity to flourish within the workplace, driving innovation, in a consistent and structured way. We also draw out the leadership and team behaviours that are needed to support this. IVE today Rosi Lister, CEO, explains: Rosi Lister CEO We are IVE “In 2016 we began delivering creative leadership training in sectors that are highly regulated and where staff are not traditionally encouraged or empowered to think outside the box, but where there is a growing need for this skill set. “Then, in 2017, our umbrella identity became We Are IVE Ltd, establishing InnovatIVE as our trading company which gifts all profits to our charitable programme. This programme seeks to inspire young, diverse & talented people from some of our most disadvantaged communities through a range of opportunities designed to develop their own creative potential as future leaders.” We believe that the workplace of the future depends on having individuals that are creative, that are able to adapt, that are resilient and have the range of skills and aptitudes employers are looking for. That’s why, when we deliver our training on an earned income basis, the profit goes back into supporting our charitable programmes for disadvantaged young people. It is therefore a ‘pay it forward’ scheme where all our customers and beneficiaries win.

Photography Ellie Laycock About 7 March 2022: Stanley Picker Gallery and our partner venue Dorich House Museum are shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and subsequent events over the past weeks. We share the concerns raised by Arts Council England and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) about the risks faced by cultural professionals as well as the threats to cultural heritage because of this conflict and we send our support to all creative practitioners and cultural organisations and institutions affected. 5 June 2020: Stanley Picker Gallery and our partner venue Dorich House Museum recognise we must do more as cultural organisations to be actively anti-racist. We commit to taking immediate steps to implement a clear plan of action to address systemic racism at every level of our organisations, whilst actively seeking and welcoming critical engagement from diverse perspectives in this process. Stanley Picker Gallery at Kingston University is one of the leading university galleries and commissioning venues in the UK, working with artists, designers, students, academics and members of the local community to encourage creativity, learning, research and innovation. Established in 1997 with the ongoing support of the Stanley Picker Trust, the Gallery forms part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio and is a principal cultural interface between Kingston University and its civic communities in South-West London and beyond. From its island location on the Hogsmill River, our venue is a creative hub, a production site and a presentation space that functions as an “expanded studio” dedicated to commissioning and curating contemporary art and design practice, generating a dynamic programme of exhibitions, events and participation activities staged onsite, offsite and online. Appointed each year through public open call, our Stanley Picker Fellowships in Design and Fine Art support a diversity of contemporary practitioners to research, create and premiere ambitious new work, by providing generous grants, free studio space, professional expertise and valuable access to the world-class workshop facilities at Kingston School of Art. The call for applications opens annually in May. Our Participation Programme involves us working collaboratively with schools, colleges, community groups and local residents of all ages, to deliver a range of creative activities and shared learning and professional development opportunities for students, that engage everyone in the life of the Gallery, our partner venue Dorich House Museum and the wider University. Follow us Twitter @PickerGallery, Instagram @stanleypicker and sign up to our mailing list for the latest updates on the programme, and to receive invitations and newsletter on our activities and how to get involved.

Key projects Rachel has worked on include developing and leading Charity Finance Group’s small charities training programme and writing NCVO’s Financial Management website resources. Finance trainer for the Association of Independent Examiners Finance mentor for the School of Social Entrepreneurs Finance trainer for Small Charities Coalition Our sector is fantastic at social stories In our sector, we are fantastic at social storytelling. We weave clear and simple stories from real world wicked problems and use those stories to solve those wicked problems. It's nothing short of remarkable. Our stories make people's lives better and communities stronger. They clean oceans and preserve habitats for endangered species. They move hearts and win minds. They make change happen. We are not, in our experience, as good, when it comes to our financial storytelling. All too often, the financial stories which we tell ourselves and those who wish to work with us, constrain our potential. Our lack of financial confidence - in our numbers and in our decision making - holds us back. But less so at financial stories Yet, we know that it is when changemakers really embrace the finances, own the numbers, understand the stories behind the numbers, use these stories to marry money with mission, they can extend their social impact and realise fully their social ambitions. We also know that for many changemakers, the biggest barrier to owning the numbers is not technical but attitudinal. We are told that keeping on top of the numbers can be boring, difficult, anxiety provoking. We help you find your financial story That is why we bring our love of numbers to all of our work. Our love of numbers, all numbers, enables us to bring the same clarity to your financial storytelling as you bring to the social storytelling. Our love of numbers helps you to take the fear out of finance. Our love of numbers means that we work with you to build your financial confidence while you build your social impact. Not all heroes wear capes. Some change the world with stories. And others do it with spreadsheets.
