Na’amal was born out of our research and observations about the economic situation of refugees in the Middle East. We knew that there had to be a better way for refugees to earn a living than to be subjected to informal work in precarious conditions and in indignity. We knew that there is nothing that separates a refugee from anyone else, apart from the political title ‘refugee’. We provide refugees and other vulnerable populations training in marketable skills required in the global labour market and link them to these jobs. We aim to shift the narrative of refugee employment; remote work could change the narrative of employment for refugees and others.

Out of Slavery (published in 2004) tells the story of black British Caribbean people and their journey from Africa to Britain. In recent years, the slave trade and related topics have attracted a great deal of interest amongst historical researchers and there are many excellent scholarly works on the subject. This book, however, is not an academic work, but it draws on recent research and primary source material to offer a clear and accessible overview – not only of the transatlantic slave trade, but of the whole story so far, from its beginnings in Africa to the post-war immigration and race riots of the last century.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us. Natural Healing Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.

People say I have this way with kids, one parent nick-named me ‘the kid whisperer’. Based in Devon and South Yorkshire, Hoarding Disorders UK – Community Interest Company was originally set up by Jo Cooke and Amanda Peet. It is now run by both Jo Cooke and Jo Cavalot. Mission Statement Hoarding Disorders UK is a not for profit Community Interest Company. Our aim is to provide practical hands-on support as well as expert advice to those affected by the varying levels of hoarding disorder, ranging from the chronically disorganised to those with extreme clutter. We support both the individuals and their families throughout this process which helps them to reconnect with each other as a family unit and the wider local community. We have a responsible and unique person-centered approach using professional decluttering, life skills and home organisational skills. We provide an ethical, sustainable and quality approach throughout our work which includes the use of our 8-step plan, support groups, coaching, research, education and training. We also work collaboratively with other professionals and organisations in contact with these individuals and families. Jo Cooke is a Director of ‘Hoarding Disorders UK – Community Interest Company’ and also runs her own business ‘Tapioca Tidy’. She is also the author of the book “Understanding Hoarding” which is fast becoming the “go to manual” for hoarders, their families and agencies that work with people exhibiting hoarding behaviours. She has appeared in the Guardian newspaper, Take a Break magazine and other publications. She has also appeared a number of times on BBC Radio and in a BBC documentary ‘Inside Out’. Jo was selected as a finalist for the Thames Valley Venus Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Jo is a professional declutterer and organiser who has a very professional, calm, non-judgemental and “makes sense” approach to helping you reclaim your space. Jo previously had a varied career in charitable organisations, human resources, project management, bookkeeping and the civil service, but realised she had a flair for decluttering and organising when she had to sell the family home that her father had lived in for more than 30 years. She has a wealth of experience and skills required when working in cluttered environments and takes a responsible and empathetic approach to the needs of people she works with. Jo runs three hoarding support groups in Bracknell, Newbury and Reading, Berkshire.

Good Friends Moira Harper – Former Chair for eight years and President for three years Moira helped design a new curriculum, was a tutor and senior assessor for YFNI’s teacher training program, and currently is a board member of Yoga Therapy Ireland. She has a long term interest in promoting the link between yoga and mental health issues. Currently she sits on the Forensic Executive at the Royal College of Psychiatry in London. Liz Comerton – Founding member Liz is a relaxation, de-stressing and anger management consultant, who has taught on our training course for many years. ‘When we started the Yoga Fellowship, we tried to maintain links with the community and encouraged the spread of the benefits of yoga by our unique teacher training programmes which meet the needs of daily living. We brought many international teachers to teach and train us. This has given us a wide view of different aspects of yoga.
