Creating Awareness Plastic in our oceans is a huge environmental and health problem. Reducing plastic from our everyday lives will help reduce the need for and cost of recycling. This is important because recycling streams are not correctly managed, and many are dysfunctional. We also need to correctly dispose of our plastic and other unwanted items, choosing to reuse, repurpose or give it away. Keeping plastic out of our oceans (and our food chain) is a big issue which is why I organise beach and underwater clean ups wherever and whenever I can. I also enjoy visiting schools to give presentations that include short videos about marine life, and coral reefs. Plus, we discuss the different types of plastic, how it is affecting the environment and how we can all try to ‘Say No To Plastic’. It is also a focal point for sustainability issues locally and is the administrative centre for projects including A-Z of Horticulture, Health through Horticulture, Wirral Tree Wardens, Furniture Reuse, Reuse Craft Groups, Cool Communities, Carbon Literacy and many more. Together with Green organisations throughout the country, we believe we are a potent catalyst for change. But this change will not happen automatically. We need people from all walks of life to join us. We can all see the problems planet Earth is facing, so we shouldn’t need much persuading. This is important work, and it is very rewarding.

Garden waste collections are an optional service to homes with gardens, for a small yearly subscription charge. The charge for 2022 to 2023 is £40 (the subscription is non-refundable once the subscription starts). This gives a weekly collection of a 240 litre brown garden waste bin. You can pay for more than one 240 litre bin if you need them. All subscriptions made from 1 April 2022 onwards will end on 31 March 2023. The price is fixed, so if you buy a subscription after April you will pay the same price as for a full year. If you don't have a garden waste subscription and need to dispose of garden waste, you can visit the Reuse and Recycling Centre or purchase some garden waste sacks. Your garden waste bin cannot be used for food waste - you should use the free separate collection of food waste. You can use your garden waste bin only for organic waste which can be composted, including: grass and hedge cuttings, leaves, flowers, weeds plants, twigs and branches (no more than 10cm diameter)

I started Wisteria Workshop seven years ago selling original pieces of reupholstered furniture and cushions at markets and independent shops. As my confidence grew I took on commissions which is now the core of my business. I also started having small upholstery classes taught in my workshop beside the Wisteria. Covid put a stop to them and I haven't started them up again yet. I am very passionate about saving our precious resources from waste and land fill. We really don't need to buy new every time as there are so many beautiful chairs that just need some work and they will last for many more years. In 2020 a new side of my business has developed in partnership with another recycling independent. We are reusing fabric and adult clothes and creating original quality children's clothes...Kinder Garments. 2021 brought another exciting challenge to my business East St Emporium. |A collective of over 30 Makers and Designers within eight shops. I share a shop and directorship . We opened in September and are working hard to spread the word about such a beautiful shop.

TRACKSS was established in the late 1990s as a CIWM (WAMITAB) and City & Guilds training and assessment centre for specialist NVQs in the waste management and street cleansing industries. As new awards have become available we have added them to our portfolio, these include recycling and grounds maintenance qualifications. In 2010-2011 the NVQ scheme was replaced by the QCF and subsequently by the RQF scheme in 2016. Our RQF candidates and other learners are drawn from all sectors and specialisms. The full range of RQF qualifications that are available are shown on the "RQF Qualifications" and "Other Qualifications" pages however, for full details, please contact us. Most of our learners / candidates obtain their award through CIWM (WAMITAB), (the Waste Industry Training and Advisory Board) for whom we are a leading assessment centre. Because we consistently obtain high grades in our CIWM (WAMITAB) external quality assurance inspections, we are recognised as a CIWM (WAMITAB) "Centre of Excellence".
