The company was set up to bring Archery into the community for anybody and everybody. We want to break through some of the barriers that stop many people from entering into the sport. Archery can be a daunting sport to enter for people who just want to try the sport out. A big financial commitment at the outset can be off-putting. At Northern Archery we want to be different. We offer archery on a pay as you go option as well as the traditional club option paying fees annually. Martin Leonard I have been involved with archery since 2007. Like Ian, I did my beginners course with Kendal Bowmen and have not looked back. I started shooting the recurve bow, but after a short time, I picked up an English Longbow and I was smitten. I have now shot Longbow over 7 years. I own various Longbows but the one I prefer is an Aidy Hayes bow. I am currently part of the Cumbria Archery Association Squad. In 2013 I was part of the Cumbria Longbow Squad that won the Pentangle. Completed Archery GB and 1st for Sport Archery Level 1 coaching in 2012, I Am currently completing Archery GB level 2, I hold an enhanced DBS check and Educare Child Protection Awareness Certificate. Birmingham Country Club, nestled in the southwest corner of Birmingham, was founded in 1916 by a group of six local businessmen. They purchased what was then the Case farm, which consisted of 161 acres of beautiful rolling land filled with trees, hills, valleys and a winding stream. Their original intent was to create a real-estate development, but the natural beauty of the site persuaded them to build a golf course instead. The original clubhouse was a white farmhouse built on Northlawn Road, right across from the 18th fairway. It was eventually replaced by a wood-frame clubhouse built on the course grounds near what is now the putting green. Membership grew, and on March 30, 1930, just after the stock market crash, their current English-style clubhouse was opened. While Donald Ross made suggestions for Birmingham’s golf course in 1920, it was Tom Bendlelow who designed it in 1911. Bendlelow laid out the first nine holes in 1916, and finished the final nine in 1920. The course was remodeled in 1928, and was again revamped in the 1930s, when golf course architect and five-time Indiana Amateur champion, William Diddell, redesigned it. Prior to BCC hosting the PGA in 1953, Robert Trent Jones worked on it, and noted course architects Bruce and Jerry Matthews worked on it again in 1963

The original architect of this interesting and scenic 18 hole parkland course, Tom Williamson, left a supreme legacy at Stanton, demonstrating how golf and nature can blend harmoniously. The course has an enviable reputation of being in excellent condition throughout the year and in addition has some of the purest greens in the county. As you approach the Club, on the left of the main drive you will find the driving range, a newly developed chipping and bunker play area and of course a practice putting green. Just the ticket to hone your skills prior to starting your round. Arranged in a double loop, the par 73 course offers a mix of tricky par threes, some long par fours which can test even the longer hitter and interestingly finishes with two par fives. The tree lined tight fairways reward accurate shots and punish those off line. This coupled with strategically placed bunkers and some elevated tight greens make this a true test of golf for players of all abilities. The first nine holes offers the chance to build a good score offering a number of birdie opportunities - if you play accurate iron shots to the greens. However the back nine can soon claw back birdies made, with holes 13 to 18 always proving a good test particularly in the prevailing wind.

With no audition and no previous choir experience required, Rock Chorus offers you an opportunity to be part of a vibrant, lively community of singers. Every voice counts here at Rock Chorus and you can rock with us too! Rock Chorus was formed in 2009 by acclaimed singer/songwriter Lauren Field. She now has around 300 members across five choirs in Pinner, Dunstable, Berkhamsted, Milton Keynes and Northwood Hills. Rock Chorus rehearse once a week in each location and the choirs come together for concerts and charity performances. Rock Chorus have appeared at The Tring Festival, The Waterside Festival at Milton Keynes, The Pepper Rock Concert in Berkhamsted, the Woburn Oyster Festival and at Strictly Come Hospice in Watford Colosseum in aid of the Watford Peace Hospice, to name but a few. We have also appeared on several TV and radio programmes for the BBC, ITV and Sky 1. For 9 years running we have performed to sell out audiences at the Stantonbury Theatre and The Venue in Milton Keynes raising over £40,000 for the Bletchley Lions Club charities. Our concerts dates just keep on coming and we are in demand across all of our areas throughout the year. We are now a regular fixture at the Ideal Home Christmas Exhibition and this Christmas holiday was a well needed break after an extremely busy term of Christmas performances and our now legendary Rock Chorus Christmas parties! Rock Chorus has recorded two original singles, "This is our Time," written by Lauren Field and Charles Foskett and "A Million Souls" written by Lauren Field, Charles Foskett and Brian Bennett (The Shadows). In April Rock Chorus recorded their new song at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Rock Chorus headlined and produced its own charity concert, headlining a Concert to an audience of 1000, and with guest stars Mungo Jerry, Osibisa, Alvin Stardust, Tight Fit and Voices with Soul, raising £15,000 for the McMillan Cancer Unit at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. As part of our ten year celebration we will be putting on a concert at the Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth. We hope that all members will get involved as Every Voice Counts at Rock Chorus!

the steam workshop

The Steam Workshop was formed in 2013 by Simon, or should I say,..... me,.... who having spent the previous 10 years building his Chiropractic clinic businesses in the Chester area was keen to start a new business centered around his lifelong hobby and passion for model engineering and steam. Together with my friend John, (who at that time was working as a tool-maker pattern -maker), we bought a tired 3" scale Plastow Burrell traction engine. The intention was to re-build the model as a fun project and then to sell it on at a profit to see if a workshop business centered around model engineering could be made viable. John was also re-building a 5" gauge BR Britannia for a friend at the same time, and so those two re-builds (SW Rebuilds number 1 & 2) really set the foundations for what the company has since grown into. I've been playing trains from an early age. My grandad, Geoff Nicholson was well known in model engineering and steam circles, and familiar to many for his annual appointment at the Midlands ME exhibition where he would demonstrate 'dome bashing' and sheet metal work to the visitors in the workshop corner. Geoff was a lifelong and prolific model engineer, and I spent a lot of time both in his workshop and putting thousands of miles on his locos while he drank tea and chatted to everyone!
