Who : Creative Catalyst (Scotland) CIC is a social enterprise which supports young people into Creative Careers. After establishing and running a similar two year pilot project for young creatives as part of the lead up to Perth Creative Exchange and The Famous Grouse Ideas Centre opening , founding director Helen O’Brien decided to take the model of this project forward as a social enterprise. In September 2019 we successfully received ‘Start It’ funding from Firstport, and moved into our new studio at Perth Creative Exchange in November 2019. We have just received Firstport ‘Build It’ funding to support and embed our development in 2021-22. We offer creative employability opportunities for young people who face barriers to employment and training in Perth & Kinross. This project is specifically targeted at young creative individuals who need support to develop their confidence in their creative skills and abilities, and signpost to other opportunities and experiences that will support them with next steps of a creative career. We work alongside other 16+ support agencies in Perth & Kinross who refer young people to us, and we welcome individuals and support workers to contact us directly. How: We offer work experience and mentoring opportunities with professional artists and makers who run live creative projects for us, from design and prototyping an idea, to making a final product, marketing and selling; visit shop here. These projects develop a broad spectrum of practical creative and transferable skills including using imagination, problem solving, clear communication, persistence, self discipline, collaboration and working to a deadline. We also run creative workshops and programmes for children, families and communities which offer opportunities for our young people to work alongside a lead artist to gain confidence and experience of delivering projects with different age groups.

The International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) is an organization of practitioners, scholars and students in the human services. It was started in the 1970’s by a group of social work educators to respond to pressing human concerns from an international, interdisciplinary perspective. The organization seeks to develop conceptual frameworks and effective intervention strategies geared to influencing local, national and international systems. It is committed to creating peaceful solutions to the problems of survival at the local, national and global levels. ICSD members use a social development approach to: Develop capacity of individuals and communities Promote world peace and social justice Improve access to adequate health care and education Overcome discrimination against women and minorities Create sustainable income and economic structures ICSD serves as a clearinghouse for information on international social development. The Consortium fosters collaboration among personnel of organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, UNESCO, and UNICEF as well as among professional associations in the human services and institutions of higher learning. ICSD is a well-established and widely recognized international catalyst for sharing ideas among many nations and across many cultures. The ICSD Technical Assistance Roster links members’ special expertise in international social development to agencies, governments and organizations upon request. Areas of expertise include: Community and economic development Organization and program building Education and training in problem-solving processes Monitoring of social development projects ICSD provides mutual consultation and cooperative action on social development. TechyTots was established at the beginning of 2017 in response to a gap in the market by mum of two Gemma Murray. Having family members working in this field and after researching the benefits of teaching children coding Gemma was keen to introduce her own children to coding and quickly realized there was nothing available in the early years to develop such skills. It was quickly apparent that there was high demand for TechyTots with lots of schools asking to run sessions and with family sessions being popular. In just over a year the level of supply and demand was so high for TechyTots, the opportunity for the business to grow was clear. TechyTots is now a national franchise providing classes from Tyneside to London. Now run by Gemma’s Cousin Julie Barber, TechyTots has gone from strength to strength. Julie has been a franchisees with TechyTots since 2018, and has a unique perspective as a business leader, she has faced the challenges of a franchisee and devolved a successful franchise with multiple classes running well in her area. Julie now has the opportunity to develop TechyTots and make sure more children are able to be part of TechyTots and learn important Coding skills. TechyTots is the first class in the uk to bring together technology and play to introduce children to coding. Our aim is to work on the first steps of coding with children at a young age to help prepare them for the technical world we now live in whilst making it fun. Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School was established as a result of a bequest in the will of Oliver Smith. Mr. Smith was born in Hatfield, Massachusetts in 1766. He engaged in farming at an early age, and acquired large wealth by stock-raising. He was a magistrate for forty years; twice he was a representative to the legislature; and in 1820, he was a member of the State constitutional convention. He never married and may have been considered eccentric by his neighbors, but he amassed a large fortune, which he bequeathed to establish the "Smith Charities," a unique system of benevolence. At his death in 1845, his estate was valued at nearly $400,000; and the will was contested by his family. Legendary lawyer and legislator Daniel Webster successfully defended the will for the city of Northampton. The fund for the Agricultural School became available for use in 1905, and the amount of $50,000 was turned over to the City of Northampton for the purchase of land on which to build Smith School. The school opened for students in 1908 as the first vocational school in Massachusetts. Since 1845, when the fund to develop an agricultural school was established, Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School has been at the forefront of a movement toward excellence in vocational training. Today, Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School is a public high school for residents of Northampton and tuition students from all of Hampshire County on a "space available" basis. Students spend alternating weeks in shop and academic programs as they prepare for both a high school diploma and a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency. Graduates of Smith School are expected to meet academic standards, achieve occupational competency, develop ready-to-go work skills, and prepare for continuing education. Integration of technology in course work is encouraged, and students have access to state-of-the-art computer labs with Internet capability. A focus on the acquisition of key life skills-good work habits, reliability, self-confidence, resilience, problem-solving-serves to guide students in their personal growth.
