All of the pottery is made using red earthenware clay and traditional craft methods. Most of the work is thrown on the potters wheel and decorate using coloured slips and glaze. Sometimes materials are added to vary the texture. It may then be torn or broken and reassembled to make contemporary vessels created or recycled from pieces. The images, colours and textures are based on drawings made in the garden or allotment. Using a love of traditional slip decorated and county pottery to comment on our contemporary relationship with the environment. Red clay represents a need to connect with the earth and our long history of care,use and misuse. These pots create an honest picture of this relationship, both good and bad. Standing up for earwigs and brussels sprouts, rusting wheelbarrows and decay, as integral parts of the landscape. Without them life would be infinitely dull and sterile.

Established in 2015, Arran Street East is a craft and design studio based in the markets area of Dublin city centre, where we make pottery and woven homewares to our own functional designs. We have a studio shop and we teach craft skills in Dublin and in Schull in West Cork. We use traditional crafting techniques to make and teach our craft, throwing on pottery wheels (pottery workshops), and weaving on looms and frame looms (weaving workshops). Each piece is individually made by hand using locally inspired colours and materials, and while our pottery and textiles are designed and made to mix and match, no two items are exactly the same. In the summer of 2022 we opened a Creative Hub in Schull, West Cork, where we teach workshops, including pottery, weaving and baking. In January 2015 we presented our first collection at the Showcase trade show in Dublin where we won Best Tableware award at the show. We have shown our pottery at London Design Festival, Paris Fashion Week, Maison et Objet, and NYNOW, and have been featured in Elle Decoration, Vogue Living, Wallpaper, Monocle, The New York Times, Forbes, Country Living, House and Garden, The Gloss, Image Interiors, The Irish Times, and many more. In 2016 and 2017, Arran Street East won the Best Tableware category in the Image Interiors Design Awards. In 2019 we were the Home Category and Overall Winner of the Irish Made Awards by Irish Country Magazine. In 2022 The Gloss and The Shopkeepers included us in the list of 100 Best Shops in Ireland. Inspired by the natural colours and textures of the earth, Naked Clay Ceramics is a collection of quiet, tactile, minimal style tableware and homeware in black stoneware and white porcelain. Using a combination of handbuilding and slip casting, everything is made by hand in my studio in Bedfordshire. At high temperatures the clay dances in the kiln. When they leave the kiln these pieces don’t conform to the symmetrical perfection and uniformity found in factory made items. Each is individual and unique. The pieces are fired with no glaze on the outside so that the feel of the natural, fired clay can be appreciated. I hope that tactile connection brings an opportunity to pause, breathe and savour a small moment in the hustle and bustle of life. I hand make a limited number of items 3-4 times a year, available online and at events. These small batches are crafted with care, knowing that each item will be an intentional and valued addition to someone’s home or collection.

Farnham

All pottery classes are currently full. We do have a waiting list. Please send an email to info@weststreetpotters.co.uk including contact details and daytime or evening class preference and we will contact you when a place becomes available. We are a friendly and committed group, running day and evening ceramics groups for all abilities. Our workshop is part of Farnham Pottery in Wrecclesham, a listed building of great character dating back to 1872 and one of the finest examples of its type left in England. The classes were established by Farnham School of Art more than 50 years ago and have maintained a strong reputation for the quality of teaching. WSP aims to develop students’ creative abilities through the acquisition of practical skills and an appreciation of the broader aspects of ceramics whilst nurturing a creative community. We are open to anyone interested in ceramics. Throughout the year we arrange social events and demonstrations which often involve the wider community.

Williams High School (Remember the Titans!) and then graduated in 2010 from the College of William and Mary with a B.A. in History. Christy went back to school and completed a B.S. in Applied Health and Fitness from Portland State University in 2019. She has been passionate about health and fitness her whole life, and loves to share her enthusiasm with others! Christy is a graduate of the National Personal Training Institute of Portland (2013), and has been a certified personal trainer through the National Council on Strength & Fitness since 2013, as well as a NCSF Certified Strength Coach since 2021.

Charitable Purposes The Scottish Potters Association objectives are the advancement of the Arts and Culture and in furtherance of this: To promote and encourage the making, appreciation and development of Scottish pottery and ceramic craft, art and culture. To provide information and opportunities for communication and collaboration between ceramic makers, artists and the public. To work in partnership with other organisations. To provide and promote Equal Opportunities such that; the organisation will not discriminate based on race, sex, disability, sexuality, age or based on political, religious or other opinions. As and if required by funders and/or members, the fuller Local Authority Equal Opportunities policies may be adopted. Activities To meet those objectives, the SPA aims to: arrange opportunities for the public: to see potters at work; to get hands on with clay; to see potters work on display; run workshops for members; organise demonstration events for members; organise public exhibitions of members work; produce and distribute a map of potters active in Scotland; provide financial support in the form of a bursary; provide opportunities for members to network.
