This is the obligatory (well, it’s not really obligatory, but it feels so) blog post about myself and the website. THE OBLIGATORY INTRODUCTION Introductions first: My name’s Gareth Davies and I’m from south Wales in the UK. I’m an e-learning professional with an MA in Online and Distance Education, but more importantly, I’m someone that is very passionate about education and technology’s role within it. WHY HAVE YOU MADE THIS SITE? This website is the successor of my Multiple Tracks blog which was a free WordPress blog site. I chose to go down the route of getting my own hosting to increase my options on what I can do with my content and, crucially, for me to learn how to create my own website using WordPress. WHAT WILL E-LEARNING MATTERS BE ABOUT? The content I’ll be writing about will naturally revolve around e-learning. However, what is e-learning and why should you care about it? The ‘e’ in e-learning stands for ‘electronic’, so e-learning is learning using electronic technologies. This learning can be a part of a course or curriculum or it can account for their entirety. Typically, e-learning is seen purely as online learning where learners engage with materials via the Internet. This website will not be solely looking at online learning, however. I’ll be discussing the wide variety of issues that fall under the roof of technology enhanced learning or educational technology. The link to the left is to the wikipedia entry for educational technology. I’ll be doing this in all my blog posts when a particular term comes up that I feel readers may be interested in because I am committed to making this website a hub for people to learn about the field of educational technology. A place where readers can find not only original content but a starting off point for further reading to achieve a deeper understanding of the subjects covered. I’ll be writing about subjects such as the future of education, new developments in technology that will and are having an impact on education, and existing and burgeoning learning theories that relate to these technologies use in learning. I’ll also be writing about any of my own experiences that I feel will be of use to people studying and working in the field. Anyway, welcome and please feel free to make comments. These duties relate to the provision of services to encourage, enable or assist young people in effectively participating in education or training. To do this we are required to undertake tracking activities and to provide information to the DfE and the Local Authority in respect of personal information; individual characteristics and the current activities of young people aged 13-19.

The London Aquatics Centre is operated by charitable social enterprise, Better. Established in 1993, we are now the largest operator of leisure and Library facilities in the UK with more than 140 separate venues in our portfolio. There are three swimming pools, the first is the 50 metre competition pool, the second is a 50 metre training pool, and the third is the diving pool with platforms at 1m, 3m, 5m, 7.5m and 10m. In addition the London Aquatics Centres provides a state-of-the-art gym and a dry diving facility for athletes of all levels. This stunning venue is located in East London next to the Westfield Stratford shopping centre and easily accessible by public transport from Stratford Rail Station. The venue holds up to 2,800 spectators at a time. ABOUT ANNE WORDSWORTH Anne has a wealth of experience having worked in five accountancy practices in East Anglia and the Midlands. Starting as a trainee accountant when she left school in 1994, she worked her way up to a Business Services Manager where she maintained a large portfolio of clients. Anne has dealt with all aspects of clients’ financial affairs and a range of business sectors and sizes ranging from micro business start-ups through to businesses with a multi million pound turnover. In 2013 she headed up the accounting function for a medium sized business with an annual turnover of almost £25 million. This provided Anne with a great insight into the day to day aspects of running a successful business, and an experience that has been useful for both herself and her clients. Having worked in accountancy for more than 25 years, Anne is a fellow member of both Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and for the last 10 years has held an Accountancy Practising Certificate. I established MSC Computer Training in January 1997 after attending yet another long and arduous day on a computer training course. A number of things occurred to me as I endured the course; I was taught skills that I would never use, Shorter sessions would have been better as my concentration flags over time, I would have appreciated the opportunity to have somebody give me advice about my own documents, particularly Word and Excel. From this nucleus of thoughts grew the idea of creating a computer training company that had the needs of the customer as the focus. i.e. what do they want to learn about and how can we help. I hope that you will see from the website that this is the fundamental ethos behind our organisation. The customer chooses the skills, duration, dates of training. We even bring our own laptops if you do not have a suitable area for group training. We work with and commission artists who are as excited by the bigger picture as the smallest detail. Our current ‘Common Lands’ programme regards Portland as a microcosm to explore relationships to and with land. We invite artists, residents, and researchers to create unique and inventive projects inspired by the themes of ‘people’ and ‘place’. We host big discussions on topics that affect us both locally and globally and create art that exists in unusual and unexpected places. Underpinning our approach is the recognition of the need for sustainable tourism. We want everyone to be able to experience everything we love about Portland in a way that respects and benefits the island and those who live and work there. Every two years, we produce the b-side festival, which brings new, unique art to local audiences and visitors alike, sharing incredible stories about and with the Isle of Portland, as well as the rest of the world. b-side is run by a collaborative team of artists, producers and curators with experience in visual arts, live art, performance, social practice, heritage, environment and arts education.
