Harrow College is now offering a range of new services to local schools for students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13. The College offer can be linked to the Gatsby Benchmarks as well as support the school to meet their commitment to the Technical and Further Education Bill's amendment passed in the House of Lords in February 2017 by Lord Baker. We provide support to learners to progress from schools onto further education and apprenticeships. We encourage awareness of the many career opportunities available to young people and the vocational or academic qualification route they may need to take to succeed in their chosen career. College staff can assist and work with schools to: • Provide vocational advice and guidance • Collaborate during Careers Events and Parents’ Evenings • Arrange visits to college for individual learners and/or groups • Organise workshops at the College or in your school for specific subject areas allowing students to get ‘hands on’ experience. We understand time can be an issue so we can also deliver presentations at a time and place that suits you. The Project Who are we? We are a newly formed co-housing group, created by a range of individuals who share common principles and who bring expertise to the project, in areas such as; eco design, engineering and construction, research, community development, fundraising, charity and homelessness sector, arts, education, facilitation and training. The story so far The group started informally in 2017 and later joined together as a formed group of five families and committed to progressing quickly in 2018. We have been supported by the Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust and have been successful in securing funding to work with Bioregional on their One Planet Affordable Living (OPAL) process to develop our project. We are continuing to apply for further funding, look for sites to build on, develop our membership policy and financial plan. What is our plan? We have developed a three year plan which involves securing significant funding, finding a site to build on and partnering with an eco developer. How will we finance & ownership work? We are in partnership with an experienced eco developer to support the development of an investment model which can incorporate home owning mortgages, rental and social housing. How will the community work? Homes will be separate units, there will some shared land/garden and play area and a common house; which will have a shared kitchen and dining area and possibly guest rooms, meeting/office space and laundry facilities. We are aiming for a simple community model – with the minimum amount of rules and process that allow us to live as harmoniously as possible. With everyone understanding that, if we all actively contribute to the community – the better it will be for all of us.

I am Victoria Griffith and I wanted to share my excitement about this forum for women and to also let you know a little bit about myself so that you realize that I understand where you are coming from. I am one of you. As a domestic violence survivor, I went through the mental and physical challenges that each of us go through and my struggle took me to the dark places. As a teenager, I felt that sense of disconnect and doubt but my journey led me to the other side where I was able to overcome and heal. My goal is to let you know that there is hope and through patience and focus, you can believe in yourself, let go of self-doubt and take charge of your life again. Working together, I will take your hand and walk you through the process of releasing the fears and insecurities and begin the discovery of awakening your confidence and passion again. I believe that you deserve to be empowered and I can show you the path that can take you there. I will not let you down in your faith and trust in me. I am a mother, transformational life skills strategist, author, consultant, inspirational speaker, survivor of domestic violence, school governor and founder and CEO of Spectacular Woman. My personal road has led me to that sense of well-being and I have found my purpose. Working with women within these realms, I have seen wonderful things happen. Many have escaped the barriers to become the incredible individuals that they were meant to be, achieving their dreams, moving forward with promotions, careers and love. I created Spectacular Woman as a combination safe place, with carefully crafted inspirational and empowering networks and programs. Our shared experiences have given me the chance to see that many have limited beliefs and lack self-worth and confidence. I have devoted many years working as a lecturer of Social Policy in the secondary school and further education system areas. Having spent thirteen years in the Criminal Justice System, including the Youth Offending Team, I have a unique perspective as well as compassion. I was privileged to work with the Women’s Victim Support Unit, working closely with women who were victims of domestic violence. In my local community, I organized conferences on domestic violence and also facilitated parenting support for parents with challenging teenagers. This background allowed me to develop and deliver the Live Wise TeenDV SRE Preventative Program for Teenagers on the topic of healthy relationships in secondary schools and within my local community.

St Kevin’s College is an all boy’s secondary school under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust and is located in the heart of the Ballygall community on Ballygall Road East, Finglas, Dublin 11 where it has served the community in education since 1967. I am an experienced consultant endocrinologist. I specialise in diabetes and have expertise in all areas of diabetes management. My particular interests are in supporting lifestyle change to manage and reverse type 2 diabetes, and in intensive management of type 1 diabetes including insulin pump therapy. I actively promote self-management and have been closely involved in the development of education programmes for people with diabetes. I am the author of several books on self-management of diabetes. I qualified from Southampton Medical School in 1985 and after a variety of junior hospital posts, I spent three years as a Medical Research Council Training Fellow at the University of Birmingham, undertaking studies to help unravel the complex genetics behind type 1 diabetes. While fascinating, the truth was that I was not particularly suited to laboratory research, and I concluded that I wanted to devote my energies to helping solve the problems faced by people living with diabetes now, rather than research the underlying genetics that might take some years to yield real results. After working at St Thomas’ Hospital in London for three years, I moved to Bournemouth in 1996 to work as a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre. I stayed there for 17 years, working with an incredible team. During that time I developed my interest and expertise in self-management for people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and oversaw the development of education programmes for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I also helped develop a structured educational approach to the management of people starting insulin pump therapy, as well as the first (and I think still the only) open access online programme for people with type 1 diabetes, recently relaunched as BertieOnline. Around 2010, I began to explore the potential of low carbohydrate diets in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and this forms the basis or much of my current work. By 2013, I was ready for a new challenge and left the UK to work for three years as the Director of Policy and Programmes at the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in Brussels. The IDF is a global federation that represents over 230 national diabetes associations. In my role, I was responsible for overseeing a range of projects and programmes that addressed the various needs of people with diabetes at a global level. In 2014 I published my first book, ‘Reverse your diabetes: the step by step plan to take control of type 2 diabetes’, aimed at providing people with type 2 diabetes with the information they need to make lifestyle changes to achieve better control of their condition, and possibly to reverse it. This was followed in 2016 by ‘Reverse your diabetes diet’, providing 60 recipes to help people better manage type 2 diabetes. In 2018 I published 'Take control of type 1 diabetes' and, together with Emma Porter, 'The low carb diabetes cookbook'. In 2022, I published my latest book, 'Busting the diabetes myth' that provides practical advice on reversing type 2 diabetes and prediabetes, backed up by the latest evidence from around the world. I am based in Dorset (southern England) and divide my time between clinical work (at the private London Medical clinic and the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Diabetes Clinics), international project work (currently in Bermuda and Kenya), professional training and writing. My aim is to reduce the impact of diabetes for individuals who have, or are risk of developing diabetes, as well as on communities by supporting projects that help improve diabetes services.

David has nearly forty years of educational experience as a teacher, senior manager, local authority consultant and school improvement adviser. His work with individual and groups of schools across the UK and abroad is always focused on ways of achieving improved outcomes for pupils through the professional development of teachers. David’s annual training programmes around the country attract hundreds of teachers and receive outstanding evaluations. He also contributes to Early Years and Primary SCITT, Teach Direct and university PGCE programmes. Whether working directly with teachers and senior leaders in schools or writing new learning and teaching materials, David always seeks to improve the engagement and raise the performance of children and young people at all stages through the carefully planned progression of key subject knowledge, concepts and skills. David’s focus is always on learning and in particular on identifying challenging subject outcomes which are made accessible to pupils through key question led enquiries both inside and outside of the classroom. He has particular expertise in designing cross curricular learning programmes which integrate the teaching of English and Mathematics as part of relevant and engaging investigations which support pupils to study places, issues, people and events at depth rather than on a superficial level. His enquiry-based approach teaches important subject knowledge whilst emphasising the significance of teachers allowing time and opportunity for pupils to master key subject skills and outcomes by ‘doing less better’. David has been a Harper Collins author at primary and secondary levels for many years and his Primary Connected Geography framework published in 2016 was highly commended by the Geographical Association and was his third such publications award. The corresponding Primary Connected History scheme was published in 2018. As well as Geography and History David also has particular expertise in developing Education for Sustainability (encompassing environmental education, global citizenship and outdoor learning) and associated sustainable schools programmes. In addition to his national programme of Geography and History training David also provides bespoke support to individual or federations of schools and to subject leaders across the United Kingdom and internationally.
