Art skills take time to develop, just like playing the piano, and the art-K programme grows with the child; the more confident they are, the more they are able to bring their creativity to their projects. All our teachers undergo in depth training on the art-K programme and art-K’s teaching methods to ensure that our students receive the best art teaching we can offer. Our Studios art-K has studios across the UK, including locations in London, Leeds, Brighton, Bristol and the South East. Our studios are powered by 100% green energy and, where possible, they use air flow heat pumps (instead of radiators or gas heaters) to keep energy consumption to a minimum. Any energy that is consumed, we offset with Ecologi; you can see the garden we’re growing here. In our studios, we up-cycle materials, incorporating plastics into the structure of our 3D projects. We believe in teaching by example and we love to share knowledge with (and also learn from!) our students.

I started life as a primary class teacher with a scraped Grade VII piano and ‘O’ Level music as my only musical background. I was soon given the task of teaching music throughout a school of 4-8 year olds and realised I did not have the skills or knowledge to be able to do this effectively. My wise headteacher sent me on a Kodály course and my world started to change… Now, after many years of learning from amazing teachers, I am passionate about this wonderful, structured, joyful way to teach and to learn musical skills, knowledge and understanding – it is my raison d’être! I grew up with the unshakeable belief that I was ‘not musical’ – because I was never a good pianist, I couldn’t do aural tests, or sight-sing, or write a dictation; theory never made much sense to me. I perceived that ‘performance’, ‘aural’ and ‘theory’ were three separate entities. It was only Kodály study that made me realise that they are all interconnected and also part of this whole wonderful thing called ‘music’. It also unlocked all the music that was inside me and which I never knew was there. My passion is bringing musical skills, knowledge and understanding to a huge variety of people – to children; to adults who are both professional or amateur musicians; to both specialist and generalist teachers. I have realised that Kodály musicianship has so much to offer a vast range of people, including choral singers, class teachers and professional players. A particular interest in recent years has been discovering the benefits of Kodály musicianship to those working in different styles and genres, including pop, electronic music and modern a cappella singing.

The only child of his parents, he grew up in Sutton, Surrey. He first attended Blue Firs nursery and then on to Collingwood School in Wallington, Surrey. Tobi, as he was known to his friends, excelled at Collingwood making many friends and participating in all aspects of school life. He learnt how to play a variety of musical instruments including the recorder, piano, drums and the cello. He participated in several school concerts at venues such as Fairfield in Croydon and The Royal Albert Hall, London. He then went on to Whitgift School for boys, South Croydon for his secondary school education. He excelled academically obtaining 6 A stars and 5 A’s for his O levels. From an early age he had an aptitude for numbers, he subsequently became an excellent mathematician achieving A star in GCSE Mathematics a year early. Whitgift School gave him the opportunity to further develop his musical skills. He studied music for GCSE and continued playing both the Cello and Drums. He was a member of the Whitgift school String Symphonia and other groups. He represented the school on many occasions in concerts. He was working towards his Grade 7 in Drums and Grade 5 in Cello at the time of his early departure.

Create an exciting & friendly environment for them to flourish alongside their peers & friends towards being the best they can be. WHY? At DreamBigKidz we are passionate about developing the emotional strengths that they need to aspire, achieve and excel. Our inspirational events include a range of activities to excite the passions and interests of children, while crucially teaching important areas of emotional intelligence, such as self esteem, resilience, handling anger and self confidence. We run single sessions as well as group sessions. In the latter, we provide fun activities to develop the students further at home, as well as optional parental / carer support. We want every child and teenage to complete the sessions with a big sense of achievement. Therefore a lot of energy goes into encouraging them with support, rewards, treats and other incentives.
