Inclusion In He

inclusion in he

I’ve worked for more than 30 years delivering and managing services in the public sector to support disabled people. In 1997 I moved into higher education becoming the manager of the disability service at the University of the West of England in Bristol. After UWE, I was the manager of an educational development project in Manchester before two roles in national coordination teams. As part of the National Disability Team I oversaw £2.1m of HEFCE funding across 23 projects in a range of HEIs in England. The projects were funded to set up disability provision from scratch within small specialist institutions and to develop a range of inclusive teaching, learning and assessment resources for the sector. I was then senior policy adviser at Action on Access, the national coordination team for widening participation. I’ve worked in a consultancy capacity and been a member of policy groups for a range of projects and organisations including, the Institute of Physics, the Higher Education Academy, the General Teaching Council for England, the Quality Assurance Agency, and a number of universities including York, Durham, Huddersfield, Middlesex and Cardiff Metropolitan. I was a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Disability Practitioners for a number of years and I’m now the CEO of the International Network of Inclusive Practice. I recently worked as a visiting lecturer at the Education University, Hong Kong and currently work as a lecturer at London South Bank University.

The academy and its community are rightly proud of the tremendous achievements of Cranford students and staff and the recognition that the academy achieves nationally and internationally, and at GCSE and A level, as a result of their efforts. Cranford students (all groups) and their expert teachers consistently out-perform the national trends. The relentless drive for high standards and achievement, combined with a breath-taking range of opportunities has resulted in impressive grades and personal skills, and promoting better life chances for all of our students. The academy has the highest standards over time in Teaching, Achievement & Progress, Student Behaviour, Leadership & Management, Safeguarding and other aspects, such as spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. A catalogue of awards continues to endorse the high achievement and rapid progress that the students and the academy make, year on year. The exemplary work of the academy is shared with other schools and academies locally, nationally and internationally. Cranford has played a key role in London's Gold Club, as a ‘Leading Edge’ academy, with the SSAT, PiXL and Challenge Partners networks and in association with the ‘National College for Teaching & Leadership’, just to name a few. Students and staff also benefit from its projects with partners such as the Institute of Physics, the British Council, various embassies and key universities. It is always amazing to reflect upon the enormous range of curricular and extra-curricular events, activities, trips and enrichment opportunities that have helped to develop and realise the potential and the differing talents that exist within our student and staff population. The success of the academy is due to the dedicated staff that make all these things happen and to students, parents, partner organisations, alumni and ‘friends of Cranford’ who participate so enthusiastically and work so hard for success. In this way, Cranford works together as a united and harmonious team to achieve such amazing results and create so many opportunities. I remain extremely proud of the academy, its students and its community. Cranford continues to find creative ways to excel in spite of various challenging circumstances, most notably in recent years being the impact of the pandemic on young people, deprived communities and on the costs for schools/academies.

Whitley Bay

I began my running coaching journey in 1976 when I ran in my green flash:) but kept on coaching, attending courses and qualifications/badges throughout my life. I also hold a post-grad degree in Physical Ed, with my first degree in Theoretical physics and Astrophysics. I have practised yoga for 25 years (recently qualified to teach in 2018). I also work in Adult Education as an associate lecturer with the Open University. After 12 years as a coach I decided to further integrate and develop my own running programmes and coaching with a much stronger focus on yoga knowledge and practice (attending professional development workshops from Leslie Kaminoff (https://www.yogaanatomy.org/) and Gary Carter (https://www.naturalbodies.co.uk/), A.G Mohan ( https://www.svastha.net/) ). We are all different, creating personalised programmes that allow runners to feel more relaxed, have a greater understanding of how they move and how they can improve their running form without an increase of injury. I have coached over 2000 runners, with a very mixed profile. From National runners to starting out and broken 'lost mojo' runners, all ages from 12-80! Running with awareness, running with ease, running with relaxation and stillness will set the conditions to allow you to run quicker, pain free and have a deeper sense of 'in the moment' focus when running or walking. I focus on developing a more mindful and holistic approach to movement (using much yoga training), allowing runners to recognise 'if it is somewhere it is everywhere' and 'don't think it, feel it'. We explore 'changing our relationship with gravity' allowing us to feel more relaxed and encourage a lighter and better feeling with the ground. For the BODY, for the MIND, for the BREATH The yoga practice complements and integrates into the running coaching, I don't teach a 'little bit of running' and a 'little bit of yoga'. They two disciplines connect and I hope folk get a sense of the power of combining the two practices. I have helped many people, from beginners to cross country runners to triathletes. Whether you are just beginning a running program or training for a marathon, race, triathlon, or general all-round fitness the soulinmotion running and yoga approach is one that builds a healthy body, instead of breaking it down from misuse or overuse. The background of runners vary from15min 5K female runners, 1h 3min half marathon runners to clients who could barely run/walk. Ages have varied between 12 to 85. I have coached yogi's, cross fit, martial arts, ultra runners, Ironmen and women, clubs, private groups.....jog scotland groups appear a lot as do some sport England. My own science, maths and sports background (BSc(Hons) Physics and Astrophysics, PGCE in Sport and Mathematics together with years of coaching means I always approach any idea with a critical and clinical eye. Find out more? The Pilgrims School

the pilgrims school

Welcome to The Pilgrims’ School, a boys-only day and boarding prep school, that prepares boys for senior school with confidence. At Pilgrims', being a boys-only school, we don’t need to worry about gender stereotypes and there are opportunities abound: from physics to music, drama to rugby, knitting to ecology, fives to chess and so much more. A Majestic Setting In the awe-inspiring setting of ancient-listed buildings nestled between Winchester Cathedral and Winchester College, you won’t find a ‘typical’ Pilgrims’ boy. In small classes with teachers who are subject specialists, Pilgrims’ is a place of outstanding personalised learning and teaching. We maximise the progress of every boy across our broad curriculum, co-curriculum, and extra-curriculum. Preparing boys for top senior schools Boys leave Pilgrims' for the country's top senior boarding schools, including Winchester College, Eton College, Charterhouse, Radley, Marlborough, Sherborne, and leading senior boarding and day schools. On average, over a third of our of boys gain a scholarship or other award to their senior school, including sports and many academic and music scholarships and exhibitions. As a prep school, our job is to ensure that boys are well-prepared so that they may thrive and be happy when they transition to their chosen senior school. Senior schools are looking for academics and a love of learning. And boys with a good character, who have the ability to contribute to school life, whether that be in music, sport, art, debating, drama or chess, to name but a few.
