We recognise the unique individual learning styles of each child and our personalised programme reflects this. Calum & Amy have learnt to swim with Splash Start and have loved every lesson. Thanks to all at Splash Start, Laura Hope Kids have progressed well with their swimming since starting lessons with Splash Start. Teachers have so much patience with the children. Big thank you to Karen & the team. Charles had no confidence in the water before starting with Splash Start now I cant get him out the pool.

Independent Dance (ID) supports the development of dance through radical enquiry, learning, community-building and audience engagement. Based at Siobhan Davies Studios in London, ID is a research engine and ‘home’ organisation for a growing community of practitioners in the UK and around the world. It has been artist and female-led since 1984. Our public programme supports a wide range of accessible and interdisciplinary approaches to dance, somatics, improvisation and choreography. Co-designed with UK/ international artists and partner organisations, this far-reaching programme includes classes, talks, workshops, research, digital initiatives and festivals. ID also bridges higher education and professional spheres, leading on MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional in partnership with Trinity Laban and Siobhan Davies Studios. Our aim is to generate a diverse and dynamic ‘community of practice’ which is not limited to one place or location and to agitate for positive change and justice within ID, the arts and society. Independent Dance is proud to be part of an ongoing National Portfolio Organisation consortium led by Siobhan Davies Studios, supported using public funding by Arts Council England. I am a fifty-five year old German citizen, who moved to England to study Buddhist philosophy eighteen years ago. My home is in Thornby, a small village between Leicester and Northampton. Due to increasing requests tuition became my main occupation in 2013. I began tutoring during my chemistry study, from which I attained a Masters of Science in Chemistry (first class degree) and a PhD in Biochemistry (first class degree). One of my pupils was a medical student, who did not like chemistry. He tried to memorise all chemical formulae for his exam. After the basic rules were explained he was able to derive equations without much effort. Later he said „I did not know chemistry was so easy“. With each new client I begin with a thorough assessment: What kind of person he or she is, what basic knowledge is present and what are the main problem areas? Then a tutoring plan is suggested to reach the goal in a reasonable time frame. My emphasis lies on building up a solid foundation of knowledge and the skills to apply it. LESSONS Lessons are individually tailored to the needs of the student and designed to be entertaining yet challenging. Their interview style keeps the tutee focused and engaged. Examples of daily life are incorporated and comparisons drawn with situations from sport and hobbies. Sometimes we even do small chemistry experiments (don’t worry parents – only harmless ones – the kitchen will not blow up!).

Marconi Sailing Club is open for anyone to join, subject to the normal formalities. The club site is a green field of some 10 acres, with ample boat storage space, parking and a wide launching ramp accessible at all states of tide. Our two storey club house boasts hot showers, a cosy bar, professionally catered galley, as well as the usual facilities you would expect to find at a sailing club. Sailing Waters The club sails in the wide tidal estuary of the River Blackwater, with launching and sailing possible at any state of the tide. The River is ideal for exploring the islands of Osea and Northey and trips can be made to Bradwell and Maldon. Beyond Bradwell the North Sea beckons our more intrepid sailors. Racing The club has a diverse sailing calendar which runs from mid March to the end of October. There are traditionally two races on a Sunday, one starting at 11am and the other at around 2pm. On Sundays there are separate starts for different fleets, usually two catamaran fleets and three dinghy fleets. During these times our support boats will be on the water manned by club volunteers . If you don’t want to race then feel free to explore the River Blackwater and cruise. There are number of other events planned throughout the year including Dinghy Cruises to destinations near and far, Friday night sailing and a Wednesday evening pursuit race along with a range of other events. Check out or sailing programme for more information. Classes Sailed Sailors at Marconi sail a range of classes including Tornado, F18, Sprint 15 and Spitfire Catamarans. For those with only one hull there are Solos, Toppers, Picos, Lasers, Larks, Wayfarers, Wanderers and many more. Cruiser Section Our cruiser section if almost full due to the excellent mooring and storage facilities available at reasonable prices. The club can only achieve this by the ‘Self Help’ philosophy that we engineer. We organise talks about a variety of topics, trips to places of interest, and an annual exhibition in a local gallery where we showcase the work of our members and other students.
