Celebrate Imbolc with us at our Brigid’s Cross Weaving Workshop, led by artist and facilitator Eugenia Rosa, on Friday 31 January from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at the Art & Spirituality Centre in Edinburgh. In honour of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of fire, poetry, and healing, this workshop invites you to create your own traditional Brigid’s Cross. This symbolic cross, made from reeds or straw, represents protection, renewal, and the first stirrings of spring. Why make a Brigid’s Cross? Woven on the eve of Imbolc, Brigid’s Crosses have been placed above doorways and windows for centuries to protect the home and bless it with Brigid’s qualities of healing and creativity. What to Expect: Craft with Celtic Tradition: Learn the technique for weaving Brigid’s Cross using natural reeds, with guidance from Eugenia on its meaning and symbolism. Reflective & Inspiring: Immerse yourself in the warmth of ancient traditions as you prepare for the coming spring. Personal Additions: Bring small charms or tokens to tie onto your cross for extra personal symbolism and intention. Spaces are limited, so book early to secure your place and connect with Celtic heritage at the Art & Spirituality Centre. It is FREE and is aimed at WOMEN only from ETHNIC MINORITY BACKGROUNDS living in Edinburgh as per this funding application . This means “international”, from every foreign country. The NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Decorative Finishing & Industrial Painting is appropriate for individuals aged 16 and over working in the construction sector who specialise in painting and decorating activity and are looking to become eligible for the Blue CSCS Card. The aim of this qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals who specialise in painting and decorating activity. Upon completion of the qualification, you will be awarded the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Decorative Finishing & Industrial Painting. CSCS Cards We can provide CSCS tests and CSCS Cards alongside the qualifications without the need to attend the test centre. Speak with our friendly and helpful team for more information.

2 day Portrait Workshop in acrylics inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti   Join well known Edinburgh artist and tutor Suzanne Kemplay and model Beth Davison to create a portrait in the style of the pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Expect an atmospheric set and romantic lighting in keeping with the Rossetti’s style, with a few modern touches thrown in.   On Day 1 Suzanne will give a short talk on how to approach your composition and how to capture the spirit of the artist’s technique. You’ll plan and sketch out a drawing in the morning before moving on to painting in the afternoon and on day two.  All materials are supplied (or feel free to bring your own) and the class is kept small to ensure everyone gets some individual attention. This course is most suited to those who have some drawing experience but we welcome beginners. Over 14s only. The workshop will run from 10 - 4pm on 1 and 2 April.

Blue CSCS Card NVQ Level 2 Craft This qualification provides you with the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, skills and understanding in their chosen craft. You will have the relevant experience in one of the trade specific areas. You will work in one of the following areas: Trowel Occupations (Bricklayer) Painting and Decorating Wall and Floor Tiling Stone Masonry Site Carpentry Plastering Roofing Induction - As soon as you register you will be given a dedicated assessor. They will arrange an induction and together with your assessor, you will get to decide on the pathway which best proves your competency. The induction is used to plan out how you will gather the relevant evidence to complete the course. During the course - The assessor will work with you to build a portfolio of evidence that allows you to showcase your knowledge, skills and experience. The assessor will also regularly review and provide you with feedback. This will allow you to keep on track to progress quickly. You will be assessed through various methods such as observations, written questions, evidence generated from the workplace, professional discussion, and witness testimonials. On completion - Once all feedback has been agreed, the Internal Quality Assurer will review your portfolio and in agreement with your assessor the certificate will be applied for.

Francesca Wyllie (BA Hons Fine Art) has an amazing north-facing art studio at El Retiro in Andalucia, which was purpose-built to accommodate painting groups. Bespoke painting and sculpture workshops can be arranged or Francesca can travel locally to guide you in your own studios or locations.
