Achieving for Children is a community interest company (a not-for-profit social enterprise) created in 2014 by the Royal Borough of Kingston and the London Borough of Richmond to provide their children’s services. In August 2017, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead became a co-owner of AfC, and we now deliver children’s services across all three boroughs. Our services in Kingston are judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, following their inspection in October 2019. Our services in Windsor and Maidenhead are rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted following an inspection in January 2020. Great by Choice Methody’s core values of opportunity, diversity and excellence will continue to drive everything that we do this year but in addition, this year has been themed and everyone has been challenged to be ‘Great by Choice’. In assemblies we have explored the meaning of ‘great’ defined as ‘outstanding, powerful, an example and influential’ and discussed how everyone can deliberately make ‘great’ choices to achieve success. Campus Creation In 1865, when Methodists in Ireland numbered only 23,000 out of a total population of six million, it was decided to build a college in Belfast, partly for the training of Methodist ministers and partly as a school for boys. Money was collected, mainly from the Irish Methodists but with help from England and America, and 15 acres of land were acquired on what were the very outskirts of the city at that time.This land included the present College Gardens as well as the site on which the College stands. The foundation stone of the New Wesleyan College at Belfast (as it was originally known) was laid on 24th August 1865 by Sir William McArthur, a Londonderry businessman, who later became Lord Mayor of London. Three years later, on 18th August 1868, the College was opened with 141 pupils. Just after the opening of the College a proposal that "young ladies" be educated on equal terms with the boys was accepted by the committee of Management, with the result that from the third month of its existence Methodist College has been a co-educational establishment.In 1891 Sir William McArthur bequeathed a large sum of money towards the foundation of the hall of residence for girl boarders. The College steadily flourished and the enrolment increased. There was a rapid growth of numbers after 1920, when the theological department moved to Edgehill College thus releasing more accommodation for the school's use. Campus Development The College has continued to grow, with each decade seeing new developments and initiatives. The extensive grounds of Pirrie Park were acquired in 1932, and Downey House, one of two Houses in the Preparatory Department, was opened shortly afterwards. The Whitla Hall, built with a bequest from Sir William Whitla, was opened in December 1935. In 1950, Fullerton House was established as a Preparatory Department on the Malone Road Campus and a major rebuilding scheme, which included the construction of 'K', 'L', and 'M' blocks, the large gymnasium, the Lecture Room, the Home Economics kitchens and canteen, and much additional renovation, was completed in 1954. New pavilions at Pirrie Park, the College boat house at Stranmillis Lock, and all-weather hockey pitches at Deramore added to the recreational facilities. The 1960s and 1970s saw continuous building on the main site. This included science laboratories, a number of general and specialist class rooms a further science block, an indoor swimming pool and a new Music department.In celebration of the Centenary, a large sum of money was raised through the generosity of 'old boys' and 'old girls', parents, staff, and others. Part of this was spent on the College Chapel. The fine organ in the chapel was a gift from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. In 1972, a Sixth Form Centre was opened, with provision for recreational activities, private study and tutorial teaching. The 1990s saw a number of major developments: a new Sports Hall, a new Art department, the Walton Building containing suites of classrooms for Technology and laboratories for Science, a Computer Studies suite and a Heritage Centre. In June 2005, the new Boathouse was opened at Stranmillis Lock.Over the past ten years the iconic original College building, School House, and McArthur Hall have both been restored and refurbished to provide exceptional facilities that combine the architectural heritage of the College with the best of modern educational resources.

Miss Scarlett is the owner and manager of Droxford Montessori, establishing the school in 2014. Miss Scarlett has over 15 years of experience in Early Years Education and her passion for Montessori began in 2005 after a work experience placement Certified with a full Montessori International Teaching Diploma and Early Years Teacher Status, Miss Scarlett is the school's special educational needs coordinator and leads all staff practice in safeguarding. Miss Scarlett is currently on maternity leave. Miss Helen Miss Helen is our Montessori School Manager and having lived in France for some years loves to share her love of France with the children. “I have worked in childcare and education for over 20 years qualifying in NVQ level 2 and 3, Montessori international diploma and a range of training including Senco. I have had varied roles including working in schools managing a baby room and caring for children with autism, physical disabilities and palliative care. I started working at Montessori in 2006 and fell in love with the ethos as well as my Montessori family. Every day is a learning experience not only for our children but me too.” Miss Lucie Miss Lucie is our Deputy Manager and vholds her Early Years Teacher Status achieved at Portsmouth University. She has previously run Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ early years setting’s and has worked at Droxford since 2015. Miss Lucie is a mummy of two little ones, both of whom have attended Droxford Montessori. Having previously trained in Food Hygiene Miss Lucie carries out our weekly cookery lessons using products from our allotment when possible as well as introducing a mindful approach to healthy happy eating. Miss Lucie is fabulous at being creative and loves gardening and spending time on the allotment with the children.. Miss Zoe Miss Zoe is an excellent dancer and loves throwing some moves with the children. “My daughter joined Miss Scarlett’s school in 2015 and totally embraced the Montessori ethos thoroughly enjoying her time in the setting. I thought the principle involved, in particular the child led activities, learning through play and nature were very beneficial. I have now taken this forward into my current NVQ training.” Miss Lorraine Miss Lorraine is our Resources Manager and has worked as a Montessori teacher for over 15 years. “I did my training alongside Miss Helen and we have worked together ever since. I too fell in love with the ethos and have enjoyed many years working alongside and learning from the most amazing and talented children. I was part of the team originally that helped set up and open Droxford school with Miss Scarlett and it has been lovely to watch it grow into the outstanding setting it has become. I decided to step back from full time teaching two years ago and now work in the role of resources management (basically making the classroom look beautiful and a fun learning environment). Outside of school I am Married with one son, I am a qualified French Cuisine Chef and my hobbies include: fitness and mud runs. I have a cockapoo called Zeus and 5 tortoises.” Miss Clio She is a mummy to one little boy called Bertie and a fluffy dog called Humphrey. Miss Clio is always smiling, she also holds her NVQ Level 3 and is currently working towards her Montessori Diploma. Miss Clio has excellent arty skills and the children love working with her. Miss Sophie Originally came to work at our Holiday Clubs. Falling in love with the ethos she decided to join us during term time whilst deferring university for a couple of years. Miss Sophie brings much enthusiasm to the classroom and is very much loved by all the children.

Established in 1968, now with over 1000 students and 70 full-time staff, we have evolved into one of the leading Law Schools in the UK. Our teaching standards and research quality consistently receive high ratings, and we maintain a strong research culture with all staff actively researching in their preferred areas. Over the last 40 years we have developed a contextual approach to legal education which avoids treating the law as if it can be separated from other aspects of society. Students examine the impact of economic, cultural and political change on law and consider how it affects life beyond the court-room and the lawyer's office, as well as studying legal judgments and statutes. We also pride ourselves on providing excellent teaching. A significant number of colleagues have received a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence – Dallal Stevens in 2011, James Harrison in 2011, Gary Watt in 2009 and Paul Raffield in 2008; in addition, Philip Kaisary and Jane Bryan received commendations in 2015 and 2014 respectively, and James Harrison received the Butterworth Award for Teaching Excellence in 2011. Our Dawlish campus is situated in the coastal town of Dawlish near Exeter. The campus benefits from being centrally located in the bustling town centre of Yate with a wide range of shops and leisure facilities providing excellent work experience and community access for our learners. At Oakwood Yate we provide learning for up to 15 learners. Yate is a day student only campus.
