Why parents choose us: Attachment Led Nursery Highly Qualified Staff Our Wellbeing Programme Outdoor Learning Flexible Wraparound Care 1140 Council Funded Hours Attachment Led Nursery ESMS is an attachment led Nursery where close relationships are formed between the staff and our children. We believe that no child is ordinary, so we take the time to get to know every child and discover their own individual talents and passions. The ethos in our Nursery is creative and hands-on. We nurture each child’s imagination, creativity and critical thinking through play based opportunities, encouraging the children to have fun, become increasingly independent and to think for themselves. Highly Qualified Staff It is our staff that make the Nursery such a special place to be. Together they inspire our children to become confident young people with good hearts and strong values.  Each of our Nursery rooms for four year olds has its own qualified teacher and we also have specialist staff for Music, Digital Learning, PE, Library and Forest Kindergarten.  This approach allows us to gently introduce children to a range of new experiences which are then built upon as they move through school.

Our school wishes to strengthen our community of learners to maximise the participation of all stakeholders – students, families and the wider community and promote our school as a centre of excellence, opportunity and inclusion. Information gathered from feedback across the school community is used to help inform improvement planning as well as data from assessment. Termly learning, teaching and assessment meetings take place between SLT, class teachers and support staff using standardised assessments and professional judgements which help identify priorities to take forward and to identify learners who may require targeted support. All staff participate in an annual performance conversations to identify opportunities for career long professional learning linked to our school priorities. Observations and sharing classroom practice are used to identify and share effective teaching and learning across our school.

Wiltshire Equine Assisted Learning

wiltshire equine assisted learning

Bradford-on-Avon

Wiltshire Equine Assisted Learning offers one to one social, emotional and mental health support through equine and animal assisted outdoor learning. creates positive opportunities for young people to thrive in the outdoors in a safe and supportive space, to reset the trajectory of life’s path. allows young people, through nurturing animals, to develop their empathy and find a sense of calm. gives learners real farming responsibilities, promoting satisfaction and pride. Being herd animals, horses seek connection and trust, and they mirror our behaviour. In working with them, learners are able to develop perspective of their own behaviour and begin to regulate their energy. All work with horses is from the ground (not ridden) and so no previous equine experience is necessary. Through interactions with animals, and the outdoor world in which they live, learners enjoy the freedom of nature, gain confidence, resilience, self-esteem and self-awareness by working on outdoor activities and a bespoke animal assisted learning program. Within our farm environment we are able to create holistic opportunities for learners to stretch their expectations and reach their full potential in a safe and supported way. Learners develop an understanding of themselves, their emotions, the perspective of others and in turn improve their focus, communication skills and their wellbeing. Preparation for adulthood Employment skills - we deliver tutoring, to include time keeping, record keeping, appropriate behaviour, health and safety, modelling good practice, team and independent work, and knowledge of job-based skills. Independent living - learners develop an abundance of practical skills, as well as communication, organisation, day to day maths, and budgeting. Engaging with the community - in working with horses, learners improve their social communication skills, their respect of self, empathy for others, body language, nurturing relationships, care and kindness. Health - learners work in the outdoors where we promote the benefit of fresh air and healthy living, activity and exercise, lifestyle choices, resilience, mindfulness and positive mental health skills. Managing transitions Learners are invited for a site visit with their support worker, parents or carers to assess the suitability of our sessions as their alternative provision. Transitions are than managed through a referral form to establish each individual learner’s needs and the tailoring of sessions appropriate to the targets of their education, health and care plans (EHCPs). Following an initial induction session we work to establish a trusting relationship in the first term, allowing the learner time to settle and familiarise, and for the facilitator to assess and develop a picture of their learner-led programme moving forward. We invite future provisions to join sessions to initiate a trusting relationship and understanding of our learner when preparing to move on or integrate into mainstream education. A portfolio of skills and CV of attainment will move with the learner, to be passed on to their next further education or provision.

David Weatherly Education

Honiton

David has nearly forty years of educational experience as a teacher, senior manager, local authority consultant and school improvement adviser. His work with individual and groups of schools across the UK and abroad is always focused on ways of achieving improved outcomes for pupils through the professional development of teachers. David’s annual training programmes around the country attract hundreds of teachers and receive outstanding evaluations. He also contributes to Early Years and Primary SCITT, Teach Direct and university PGCE programmes. Whether working directly with teachers and senior leaders in schools or writing new learning and teaching materials, David always seeks to improve the engagement and raise the performance of children and young people at all stages through the carefully planned progression of key subject knowledge, concepts and skills. David’s focus is always on learning and in particular on identifying challenging subject outcomes which are made accessible to pupils through key question led enquiries both inside and outside of the classroom. He has particular expertise in designing cross curricular learning programmes which integrate the teaching of English and Mathematics as part of relevant and engaging investigations which support pupils to study places, issues, people and events at depth rather than on a superficial level. His enquiry-based approach teaches important subject knowledge whilst emphasising the significance of teachers allowing time and opportunity for pupils to master key subject skills and outcomes by ‘doing less better’. David has been a Harper Collins author at primary and secondary levels for many years and his Primary Connected Geography framework published in 2016 was highly commended by the Geographical Association and was his third such publications award. The corresponding Primary Connected History scheme was published in 2018. As well as Geography and History David also has particular expertise in developing Education for Sustainability (encompassing environmental education, global citizenship and outdoor learning) and associated sustainable schools programmes. In addition to his national programme of Geography and History training David also provides bespoke support to individual or federations of schools and to subject leaders across the United Kingdom and internationally. He teaches regularly. David Weatherly Secondary School Deputy Headteacher I came on your course in January - in fact I also came to one the year before. I just wanted to let you know that I just presented my subject audit to staff and senior management and it was very well received. Lots of people were inspired and it is down to your course. We now have a really clear vision for Geography and we are looking forward to getting together and revitalising our planning for September. We have a lot of changes to make, but the positivity I am getting from people is awesome. I just wanted to say thank you for your help and for inspiring me. Your courses have honestly been the best I have been on in my career. Primary School Deputy Headteacher A fantastic, inspirational course which, as a deputy and English subject leader, I found matched what we want to do in school perfectly. A wonderful antidote to today’s education ‘policy’ - thank you so much. The discussion of the skills that the children needed (at a teacher level) and the assessment teachers should be planning and looking for (at a co-ordinator/managerial level) was beautifully, simply and eloquently presented
