Penelope Ody BSc MNIMH Penelope Ody is a Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and Fellow of the Herb Society. Hello – and welcome to "Herbs at Walnut", a series of one-day courses on using herbs now in its twentieth year. I have been exploring the fascinating world of herbs for more than 40 years studying initially with the School of Phytotherapy in Kent, UK, and also at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou, China. I practised as a consultant medical herbalist in Buckinghamshire UK, for 11 years while also writing regularly about herbs and editing The Herb Society's various journals from 1988-1994. For the past 20 years I have concentrated on writing books about herbs and lecturing at various courses and summer schools - including Herbs at Walnut which I started in 2002 at my home, Walnut Cottage, in Hampshire. In 2006 these courses were featured in Meridian TV's "Country Lives" series. For most of us, herbs are familiar and readily available plants used for flavouring foods or scenting rooms. Many of them are also potent medicines ideal for using at home as alternatives to over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs for treating a range of health problems. Our great-grandmothers would have been very familiar with home-made medicines but over the decades we have lost the everyday skill of making them. Commercially produced medicines – both orthodox and herbal – have been readily available to meet our needs. Now, thanks to changing legislation and tighter regulatory control, many of these herbal products are no longer available from chemists or health food shops, so we need to re-learn how to make these simple nostrums and to understand which are most suitable and when to use them. Courses at Walnut Cottage cover a range of herbal topics – from using herbs in cooking to making your own creams and ointments to replace those which are no longer quite so easy to find in the shops. Courses are relaxed and informal with small groups – generally no more than six – giving plenty of flexibility to explore your particular interests. Flying Training All flying undertaken by Instructors at Kemble Flying Club is categorised as training, whether it is a taster lesson or Trial Flight, a normal flying lesson, or one of our other experiences like ‘Pilot for a Day’. Whatever type of experience you decide to take with us there is a good deal of useful information for first time ‘pilots’ on the Trial Flight page. All flying training referred to can be taken in fixedwing or the flexwing aircraft. (See: Our Aircraft) Introduction Flying training is one of the most important aspects of what we do here at Kemble Flying Club. Whether you come to see us for a one off experience, for a series of training flights, or to complete a pilot’s licence we can, without hesitation, say this will be a rewarding, sometimes challenging, and, even a life changing experience! Of course some people come to us for conversion training, refresher training (we could call that advanced training) and for flying instructor courses. There is a magic about flying small aircraft, a thrill, it’s like we have cheated gravity to play in the sky. We have read and seen pictures of the pioneers of flight and the first powered flights were only a little over 100 years ago! We are constantly exhilarated by the flying experience, the feelings of buoyancy of the air, the spectacle of different cloud shapes and patterns and colours as the light dances around us. And, the views of the landscape, the masses of open spaces, woodlands, hills and rivers. From Kemble we only have to be upwards of 1,000ft above ground and we can see to the Welsh mountains to the west, the Malverns, and the Cotswold plateau stretching away to the north. We can see as far as Didcott Power Station to the east and Salisbury Plain to the south. You don’t actually have to take a ride into Space to see the World is a small place! Importantly training should be fun! You will learn so much more if you are enjoying it. At the same time Safety is our utmost priority and when you are on your way to becoming a fully fledged pilot then it will take some commitment and discipline.

Definition of Lipo Surgery Body sculpting is a cosmetic surgery procedure, and is a body reshaping technique that works by selectively removing subdermal fat. It is one of the most commonly requested aesthetic procedures in the United Kingdom. The body typically stores fat unevenly. In women, fat is likely to accumulate disproportionately around the hips and thighs, and in men around the abdomen. Liposculpture can be used to debulk, and balance fat distributions to achieve a more proportional and attractive silhouette. It can also be used to improve the definition of subdermal muscles. Other areas commonly treated include the neck, arms, tummy, flanks, back, loins, thighs, inner side of the knees and the ankles. In men, fatty deposits can also develop under the nipples and begin to look like breasts (gynaecomastia). Body sculpting, also referred to as liposculpture, liposuction, lipectomy, or colloquially simply as lipo, is rarely a medical necessity. However, some individuals can be adversely affected by the perceptions of others. This real cultural bias can have a cascade effect on professional success, as well as personal health and mental wellbeing. The success of a body sculpting procedure depends on provide both a safe medical result as well as a good aesthetic one. For this, it is important that patients select doctors who have both top medical credentials, as well as a history of verifiable cosmetic success. It is also essential that patients considering liposuction have realistic expectations, and understand what can be reasonably achieved. The best results will be achieved by patients in good health with reasonable skin elasticity (needed for retraction), and good underlying muscle tone. The goal of the British Association of Body Sculpting is to standardize and to develop best practices in liposculpture by building on the substantive joint experience of surgeons working in this field. The association has been established to agree and document best practices in pre-operative consultation and evaluation, medically safe and effective procedures in the operating theatre, and post-operative care. Throughout his 30 year IT career, John has been privileged to visit many different industrial, commercial, government and military sites including steel works, car manufacturers, factories, offices, power stations, petro-chemical, and electrical, gas and water utility installations. He has completed projects throughout Europe (The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg and Switzerland) India, and the Asia Pacific Region (Cambodia, and Australia). His career started as a British Telecom apprentice in the 1980’s in the City of London and he has worked in many city financial institutions. In 1989 he left to join J.O. Grant & Taylor as a junior project manager, in 1990 he joined Electrical Installations Ltd as a project and bid manager in the structured data and voice cabling sector and worked on projects such as British Steel Scunthorpe and Redcar, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, and Cranfield Institute of Technology. Working for himself in 1996, he installed servers, switches and desktops into UK Job Centres nationwide. 1997, saw him join Computacenter as a Systems Engineer and he worked at some notable clients including Lloyds TSB, HFC Bank, Mecca Bingo, HSBC, British Energy, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Severn Trent Water to name a few. 'I set up Carbon³ IT in 2009, my own sustainable IT consultancy, providing information, products and services to clients looking to reduce energy costs and to reduce their IT impact on the environment. I wanted to take all my years of experience in other roles and incorporate it into something I was passionate about. In 2013, the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) and our partners (Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association (CPHVA), Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG), Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH), Human Rights Organisations such as Equality Now, FORWARD and other charities, activists and survivors) came together to produce the Intercollegiate Recommendations for identifying, Recording and Reporting in the UK which formed the basis for government actions to End FGM. Since then, we continue to work with our partners to lobby the government for services and support for survivors of FGM, raise public awareness and advocate for training and support for health and social care professionals and those who work with women and children. Some of these initiatives aim to support health professionals and build links with communities where FGM is practised, so that we can highlight the health and psychological impact of FGM. They also include training such as e-learning modules, and a variety of FGM related resources and tools specifically aimed at Specialist Midwives. With funding from the Department of Health and NHS England, we have jointly developed this discrete e-platform aimed at Specialist FGM Midwives, doctors, health visitors, nurses, students and relevant health and social care professionals, as a means of creating a virtual forum of support where relevant resources can be accessed, including links to appropriate data on FGM. The e-network would also act as a confidential platform for discussion of issues or specific problems, and for sharing information and best practice in a safe space There are also discussion groups available to non-health professionals involved in the campaign against FGM. It is hoped that members would come together at least once a year for a conference or workshop. Zion is a Community Hub in Bedminster Down, where everyone is welcome. We provide a warm safe space for community groups to run, our cafe is open 9-5pm every weekday and we put on an array of affordable events. Although originally a church, Zion was bought in 2011 by Jess Wright, who lovingly crafted Zion into an essential and well loved hub in Bedminster Down. In the Summer of 2022, members of the community, local businesses and grant organisations came together to purchase Zion as a community share offer! Once a focus for the local community of Bedminster Down, this historic chapel had been left derelict after the congregation could no longer afford to sustain it. Jess wanted to breathe life back into this beautiful building, a real landmark in BS13. She also wanted to create a much-needed community centre in a residential area with few social or cultural venues. She wanted a place where people of all ages and backgrounds (especially those who were isolated or excluded) could meet to improve wellbeing on a personal and community level. Using a small start-up budget of £5,000 (her own money), Jess began renovating the building. Thanks to the support of a small team of volunteers, Zion opened its doors to the community once again; this time as a small-scale café serving coffee and cakes, and offering a few extras such as film nights and kids’ creative sessions. Over the past 11 years, Zion Community Art Space has become ever more popular. It attracts 15,000 people a year and is now open at least five days a week, offering: a daytime community café that serves freshly made food at an affordable price a broad programme of over 200 events and activities a year, ranging from quiz nights and children’s workshops, to live music, theatre, talks and food events regular daytime drop-in groups such as a Memories Café, Creative Writing Group, Local History Group and Breast-Feeding Support an indoor and outdoor private hire venue for weddings, parties and other celebrations
