Kingsthorpe College

kingsthorpe college

Northampton

Kingsthorpe College is the kind of school which is dedicated to ensuring that we make a difference, in any way that we can, to both our community and our young people. We are passionate about providing opportunities for all our students to achieve artistic, athletic and academic excellence. We very much believe that our role is to help develop successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens. In addition to ensuring that all our young people achieve their potential in these areas, there is also a genuine commitment to respect for individuals which is demonstrated in the daily life of the College. One of the first things you notice when you walk into the College is how friendly everybody is to each other – how frequently people smile, take an interest in other people, and find something positive and encouraging to say. We always take the time to celebrate success. For us, high quality relationships are at the heart of everything that we do. We want our young people to be happy, confident, curious, and resilient learners. We know that this can only happen if relationships, built on trust and mutual respect, are central to all aspects of our work. We believe that when young people feel safe and secure, everything is possible, and we promise to do our utmost to make sure that we unlock the potential in everyone. All we can ask from our students is that they do their best, and we value hard work, determination, and thoughtfulness highly. We want all our young people to ask themselves just one question at the end of every day – was I better today than I was yesterday? So whilst passing exams, and gaining the necessary qualifications to take that next step, is hugely important, we are equally committed to providing our young people with the space and resources to develop their character. We are proud of the extracurricular provision that we are able to offer, and we work hard to give our students plenty of opportunities to develop their confidence and creativity – both in and out of lessons. We also believe in clarity of communication, and the power of feedback. We always welcome open and honest dialogue between all those involved in and with the College. We are committed to a restless excellence which can only be achieved through regular feedback, and you will always find us receptive to this. We are excited and optimistic about what the future holds for the young people and community which we serve. Of course the best way to experience KC is by visiting us, and you will always find our doors open. If you would like to come and see us, please do get in touch - I look forward to sharing the College with you.

Stitch and Make Studio

stitch and make studio

Northampton

When small, Abigail Jackson made shoes from wallpaper sample books and lashed her brothers’ wooden building blocks onto her feet with string believing herself to be a geisha. In her bedroom she stitched gnomes on hankies and cut off the frills from her maxi dress to make clothes for Pippa the pocket-sized doll. In the kitchen her mum sat her on the draining board, put sellotape across her fringe and cut under it. Abigail Jackson became one of a tiny handful of Daventry punks, who shuffling round town in bondage trousers from Seditionaries and handmade clothes coloured in with biro pens, held together with hundreds of safety pins. In her bedroom she made homemade Sid Vicious badges with pages from the NME and sticky back plastic. Dreamt of being in The Slits and planned never to have a proper job. Abi went to Northampton Art College in the ’80’s to study fashion design and Illustration. Its this foundation of designing and pattern cutting that has coloured her judgment ever since. From opening a clothes shop in Coventry at the age of 19 to opening the studio in her 50’s Its only ever been about creating and making. Abi works as a freelancer so no two jobs are the same. She designs, sews and makes for a living, breathing, all singing, all dancing proper job. In the between times she has work as a freelance wardrobe supervisor traveling extensively and working with some wonderful people. Upon returning home she stitches in her studio, works on community or school projects, plans workshops and collaborates with other creatives in Burns Street Studios. Welcome to her website, where you can explore the studio. You can book onto a workshop which will be held at The Stitch and Make Studio and run by Abi or guest creatives. If you would like to visit the studio to view Abi’s collection of one off pieces of clothing please get in touch. Alternatively, if you have ideas for a hen party or a group workshop get in touch too.

Richard Morris Racing

Richard Morris is a British racing driver and is currently a works driver for Revolution Race Cars competing in the European Sports Prototype Cup. He is also the creator of the Racing Pride movement to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusion through motorsport. Richard’s racing career began in 2004 in Junior TKM karting, before progressing through Senior TKM from 2007, and in 2011 he moved into the supremely fast 250-gearbox class, establishing himself as one of the leading drivers at British Championship level. This culminated in him taking 2nd in the English Championship and 3rd in the British Open Championship for 250-gearbox karts in 2016. A former international fencer for England and Great Britain, and a B.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. graduate of Cambridge University, Richard turned his full sporting attention to motorsport when he stepped up into car racing in 2017. For the 2017 season Richard entered the competitive Formula Ford 1600 single-seater category at Castle Combe circuit, driving for the Swift Cooper team in their 1992 Swift SC92 chassis and racing in Class B. Richard announced himself immediately, qualifying on pole position for his very first car race. A podium finish followed at his second meeting, and he took his first win at only his third meeting, which was also the first time he had driven the car in wet conditions. 8 pole positions and 4 wins from just 9 races followed in a successful season. In 2018 Richard continued to rise, joining the BRSCC Formula Ford 1600 National Championship with Swift Cooper. Richard took 2nd place in his class in the National Championship, again with 4 wins. Richard first tested a sports prototype car with Spire Sports Cars at Donington Park in November 2018. After an impressive test, Richard was offered the opportunity to race the team’s latest GT3s prototype in the RGB Sports 1000 Championship for the 2019 season. Two highly successful seasons followed in which Richard racked up 15 podium finishes from 22 races. In 2019 Richard was crowned Sports 1000 Vice Champion in his debut year of prototype racing and in a part season (due to Covid) in 2020 he claimed wins at 3 out of the 4 race meetings he contested and set a new lap record at Snetterton. In 2021 Richard raced the Praga R1T in the Britcar British Endurance Championship with CWPerformance. The Championship enjoys a large following, TV exposure, and features cars from many of motorsport’s most prestigious brands such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Richard and his teammate Christopher Wesemael won more races and had more podium finishes than any other driver pairing, taking 3 wins and 6 podiums from 9 races. In January 2022 Richard signed as a works driver for Revolution Race Cars. He will race in the 2022 Sports Prototype Cup, which will be contested across 5 iconic Grand Prix circuits in 5 different countries, as well as undertaking test, driver coaching, and demonstration work for Revolution.
