One was through doing management consulting in the public and private sectors, and coming to understand just how much stress, inefficiency and sadness arises from communication and conflict difficulties in the workplace. The other route was through being a patient, a parent of children with disabilities and a family carer, and witnessing how difficult it can be to make plans for the future when the present involves difficult discussions and many people. So I specialise in making sure that people feel comfortable with the process they undertake with me, and that it leads them towards feeling comfortable and confident about their future. I aim to be thoroughly supportive, reassuring and encouraging at all times. My professional work and personal experience in health and social care mean that I am particularly experienced in supporting people who are living with any form of illness, disability, mental health condition or life-limiting condition. I have particular personal experience of working with people who are deaf or hearing impaired, on the autism spectrum, experiencing mental illness and living with dementia or stroke. Why I love being a mediator I came to mediation through a confluence of circumstances which made me think, ‘There must be a better way for people to deal with their difficulties than to threaten legal action, or refuse to engage in communication at all!’ I realised that a great deal of my management consultancy work was really… conflict resolution. It gave me such pleasure and relief when long-held rifts within and between teams melted away after some good, authentic communication. This piqued my interest to find out more about the art of conflict resolution, and I did my first certificated training, and started practising as a community mediator. Later I qualified as a civil and employment mediator, and have been mediating ever since. It’s astonishing to witness people’s lives turn from a turmoil of distressing, intractable ‘stuckness’, to a new phase in which, for example, neighbours can conceive of greeting each other again; or work colleagues re-establish trust between each other after maybe years of mistrust, stress and non-communication. Mediation takes empathy, patience and persistence, and it is a skill I will develop and hone endlessly over years to come, but its core aspect is a belief that people really can find peace again, given the right support and a safe space to explore options for settling differences. Facilitating such processes is a real honour. Nothing beats the sight of former disputants smiling, shaking hands, or even (more often than you would think) hugging, at the end of a mediation.

As a coach, Seth is dedicated to helping people calm, empower and rejuvenate their busy minds and bodies to achieve the best versions of themselves. Seth brings a wealth of experience holding heart-centered spaces. His in-depth studies, trainings, personal experiences of many therapeutic modalities such as Humanistic & Body Psychotherapy, the Human Potential Movement, 5 Rhythms, Active meditations and the teaching of the Indian Mystic Osho who he grew up with in India in the 1970s, infuse his approach to living a creative, holistic & embodied life and sharing his unique offerings with others. Library of Things and Repair Cafes. We are currently (as of Spring 2021) introducing HOW TO Reduce your Carbon Footprint workshops within the Share and Repair Shop and as a pilot project within primary schools. Another strand of ‘sharing’ is our Library of Things. We started this at the Weston Hub in November 2018 and changed our official name to Share & Repair in line with our expanded vision. We become a charity: In April 2020, Share and Repair gained charitable status as a CIO (charitable incorporated organisation) no 1189015. This is a major milestone for us and means we are accountable and can now raise funds through grant making trusts and from Gift Aid. We opened our first pop-up shop: In June 2020 we hit another major milestone when we opened the doors to the Share and Repair Shop in the centre of Bath. Our first location on Broad Street had an incredible response, raising awareness of sharing and repairing in Bath. In August 2021 we moved to another location at 3 York Buildings, George Street (BA1 2EB), which is now the new home for the Bath Library of Things and a place where we run even more repair sessions. HomeKIT launches: In Spring 2021 we officially launch HomeKIT. This is a new project that will see us taking donations of good-quality but unwanted kettles, irons and toasters and sharing these ‘home kits’ with partner charities who will distribute them to low-income households. If items need repairing, we certainly have the skills and means to do so. We’re really excited about expanding our work in this way and working with other organisations.

The Town Council has twelve elected members who give their time voluntarily for the benefit of Shaftesbury and its residents. The Council elects one of its members to be Town Mayor in May of each year, electing a Deputy Mayor at the same time. The Mayor presides over all Town Council meetings. Membership The Full Council meetings are attended by all members of the Town Council and are presided over by the Mayor and, in their absence, the Deputy Mayor. There are twelve Full Council meetings scheduled each year, beginning with the Annual Meeting which takes place in May. Responsibilities The Full Council meetings approve and adopt the minutes of Town Council and Committee meetings, receive reports on the Mayor’s engagements and correspondence and receive reports from Dorset Councillors and local organisations. The meetings also deal with contractual, financial, legal and policy matters that Committees do not have the remit to resolve. Committees The Town Council has one formal committee – Planning & Highways, meeting on a monthly basis. Dates for meetings of the Council’s Committees can be found on our Meetings page. In addition, the Town Council has two advisory committees – Shaftesbury Swimming Advisory Committee and Mampitts Advisory Committee, which both meet on an ad-hoc basic. Terms of References for all committees are contained within the Scheme of Delegation. Planning and Highways Committee information Parish or Town Meetings A parish meeting may be convened by any six local government electors for the parish. Not less than seven* clear days’** public notice is to be given of the meeting, the notice specifying the time, place and business to be transacted. The notice must be signed by the person or persons convening the meeting and will not be issued in the name of the clerk of the council. Public notice must be given by posting the notice in some conspicuous place(s) in the parish and in such other manner (if any) considered desirable by the person(s) convening the meeting. Usual places are public notice boards, post offices, village stores, village halls, etc. There is no statutory requirement to publish the notice in the press, although this often happens. The press and public have the same rights of admission to a parish meeting as they have to a meeting of the parish council (Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960). You are advised to contact the Town Clerk for further information and guidance if you are considering calling a Parish Meeting. * If the business proposed relates to the establishment or dissolution of a parish council, or the grouping of the parish under a common parish council, fourteen clear days’ notice is required. **clear days do not include the day of issue, the day of the meeting, public holidays or periods of national mourning
