We feel as though there is a lot of pressure on young people to make the correct career choices yet so many still do not have the tools or access to make informed decisions. Lack of access to people from different professions means that young people do not know what certain professionals do or what it takes to get there, and a lack of confidence means that individuals do not put themselves forward for roles that they are absolutely capable at achieving - with a little hard work of course! Breaking Through Careers would like for people from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to end up in a career that is truly right for them. We will have succeeded if just a few more people from any and all backgrounds: Discover and understand a profession that they either a) have not had access to, b) have not taken the time to explore, or c) would otherwise not have heard of because of their upbringing or environment. Know what is required for them to enter that industry. See themselves in other people currently in that profession, giving them the confidence they need to put themselves forward.

Brink Literacy Project is devoted to utilizing the power of storytelling to positively affect the lives of people on the brink. Through our education, community, and publishing divisions, our nonprofit works worldwide to foster a love of literature, increase literacy rates, and use storytelling to empower underserved communities. Our Education division delivers innovative literacy and storytelling programs with a focus on increasing literacy rates and assisting personal development through storytelling. We have a strong focus on bringing our initiatives to low-income, low-literacy, and marginalized communities, whether that means teaching in prisons or creating completely original curricula to tackle low reading proficiency in our youth. Through our Community division, Brink forges partnerships with universities and other humanitarian and literary organizations. As a global community of readers, writers, artists, students, and supporters, Brink brings people from diverse backgrounds together to celebrate the beauty and power of storytelling. Our Publishing division, headlined by our print journal, F(r)iction, is the culmination of our efforts to #PublishWeird, pushing the boundaries of what, and who, is accepted in the literary world and providing a platform for underrepresented and trailblazing voices alike.

Hello my name is Chelsea and welcome to Greens Yoga. I am a yoga teacher specialising in yoga for women’s physical and mental health and wellbeing, in Edinburgh and the Lothians. I teach small group classes and private yoga sessions specialising in pregnancy and postnatal classes, I also offer beginner friendly vinyasa flow style classes and yoga nidra for those who have trouble with sleep, anxiety and stress. I am always learning to upgrade my skills and knowledge whether it be through courses, reading or being taught by other teachers. I have recently completed my fertility yoga training with Naomi Murphy from Real Fertile and Sally Parkes Yoga, i am excited to soon be offering women’s wellbeing focused classes. There are many different styles to practising yoga that it can make the journey to starting your first class slightly daunting. Here I’ve decided to help ease your mind and break down the styles of yoga I teach which will hopefully make your decision a little bit easier when choosing the style for you. Established in 2012 by Jill Martin Boualaxai and Damian Michael Malone, Look and Draw runs a year round program of exciting and innovative art classes and workshops from Wasps Artists Studios near Haymarket and monthly pop up events at The Safari Lounge in Abbeyhill. Look and Draw classes are brought to you by a group of like minded professional artists who are all passionate about the visual arts and about taking the right approach to drawing and painting. The majority of classes are tutored by Jill Martin Boualaxai. Other ad hoc tutors with Look and Draw are Cat Bruce, Sarah Calmus, Lorna Johnson, Oana Stanciu & Matthew Storstein . Hi, I’m Kathryn and I run antenatal courses and workshops along with baby and postnatal classes in Edinburgh. I teach weekly pregnancy classes and birth and baby workshops, which focus on combining antenatal education with birth hypnosis and breathing techniques, movement for pregnancy wellbeing and active birth and are a great time of the week to focus on you, your pregnancy and your baby. Weekly classes are a great way to help you enjoy a positive pregnancy and meet up with others local to you and at a similar stage in pregnancy as you prepare for your confident birth. I also teach Tinies and Wrigglers daisy baby classes which as well as offering baby massage, yoga and sensory play are all about coming together with other new parents to meet, chat and learn – navigating the journey into parenthood together. What I particularly love is seeing expectant parents meet at antenatal classes and continue with daisy baby classes until 10 to 12 months postpartum offering a real connection and community and seeing friendships grow. My classes are with you every step of the way, as are the community of daisy parents around you connected in class and online to always be there to support you. For everyone that is looking for evidence based information, delivered live and interactive (both online and in person) in a non judgemental space with other like minded new and expectant parents you are in the right place! As a local Mum of two I know just how much of a huge transition it can be becoming a new parent and I am passionate about supporting parental wellbeing and passionately believe in the value of peer support. We’ve all heard the saying ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and daisy is all about building your village! I trained with The Daisy Foundation in 2013 and have been teaching for daisy classes for over 7 years working with hundreds of parents and families from throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. I am also a voluntary peer facilitator and lead Positive Birth Edinburgh, as well as being a trained Slingababy Baby Wearing Peer Supporter and a proud member of Edinburgh Birth and Baby. Welcome to Magnum Driver Training. We are based in Bonnyrigg and offer a wide range of Learner, Advanced and Fleet driving courses in Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, Central Scotland and the Scottish Borders. Magnum Driver Training was founded by two former Traffic Police officers and the aim of Dave Irvine and John Hunter was to teach and promote safer driver training. Another retired officer Jim Brunton joined the company and is heading up the learner side of the business. Dave has retired from learner lessons although will still be involved in Advanced testing and fleet driver training. Dave and Jim have more than 40 years traffic driving experience. They are Scottish Police College Advanced Driving Certificates holders, members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, fully qualified DSA Approved Driving Instructors and Pass Plus registered instructors. Dave is an examiners and fleet trainer with the IAM (Formally the Institute of Advanced Motorists, now IAM RoadSmart). He also holds the RoSPA Gold Diploma in Advanced Instruction and is an examiner for RoSPA. Dave also holds an IAM RoadSmart Masters Certificate in Advanced Driving with distinction and an Institute of the Motor Industry Examiners qualification. As the company has established an excellent reputation we are able to offer wide range of driver training courses at a variety of levels. I don’t come from a dance or sports background, and originally trained as a textile designer. I still design, so now combine my love of printed pattern, with my fascination with people’s movement patterns. So I’m no stranger to what sitting at a desk staring at a computer screen does to your body. And how I long to stretch and move after a day of that. I first came across Pilates about 16 years ago in my late 20’s, when I felt it was about time I started exercise of some sort, never having been ‘sporty’ or a fan of the gym. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first class, but I did like the sound of improved muscle tone and length. I soon discovered there was a whole lot more to it than that. Although there are many physical benefits, the reason I returned after that first class, and keep returning to my mat after all these years is simply how great it makes me feel. Energised and relaxed at the same time, and definitely walking taller (a bonus when you are only 5’ 4”!) I’m certain that doing Pilates has kept the niggling aches and pains of age at bay; has allowed me to do all the other things I love with ease and grace, and has left me feeling stronger and healthier now than I did when I first started. I completed my teacher training with Body Control Pilates in 2008, and since then have loved watching the changes in my client’s bodies and their enthusiasm as they learn, and I have also learnt so much from them in return. I am a supervising teacher for BCPA in Edinburgh, helping to train new teachers, so there may be a student teacher and an extra pair of eyes to assist you in your class!
