The history of the school can be traced as far back as 1844 when the Sisters of Mercy came to Nottingham and opened St Mary’s Elementary School and St Catherine’s Day and Boarding School on this site. Since then as the demands for the Catholic education grew within Nottingham so has the school, to the special place it is today educating over eleven hundred young people. The school is an active member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi-Academy Trust, along with the other twenty Catholic schools within Nottinghamshire. We are a Catholic school with the aim of developing our young people spiritually, socially and academically with Christ at the centre of our work. We are House of Pain Academy, one of the most highly regarded professional wrestling academies in the UK. Through our supportive family atmosphere we aim to help everyone with an interest in becoming a Professional Wrestler, the opportunity to do so within a safe and comfortable environment. We are uniquely able to prepare you for a career within British Wrestling, with our excellent and established links to touring companies and regional promotions around the UK. The House of Pain ethos is that you will be supported in your wrestling training journey, and whether you would like professional wrestling to be your career in the future, or whether you’re looking for a new hobby, your training will be treated with the same respect and care. We think the Academy offers the perfect blend of a fun environment, and a serious training facility. Its down to the individual as to how they use the opportunities we will make available to them. We are based in Snienton, Nottingham, close to the city centre and with good transport links from other parts of the UK, being close to the M1, Nottingham Railway Station and East Midlands Airport. We run a full time facility, which currently hosts daily classes, 7 days a week, and at least 6 professional shows per month around Nottinghamshire. We hold regular monthly open days for prospective new students to try out Professional Wrestling at the same, in a welcoming environment where they can all learn the first steps together, guided by our trainers and senior members of the academy, after which they are welcome to join in with any of our beginners level classes. Psychological Operations (PSYOP) and Psychological Warfare (PSYWAR), these words generate thoughts of North Vietnam's "Hanoi Hanna", Japan's "Tokyo Rose" and more recently the Iraq's infamous "Baghdad Betty" of Desert Storm. To others the words psychological operations and psychological warfare conjure up images of our military playing mind games with the enemy. PSYOP is all this and much more, for you see there are essentially two great forces in warfare:-the physical and the moral. These two forces suggest two distinct approaches to warfare. One a "direct" approach, concentrating on the opponent's physical forces, and the other an "indirect" approach, focusing on moral forces. Both of these approaches have been tried throughout history, with a noted lack of emphasis on the indirect approach until more recent times. This website will attempt to give new emphasis to the indirect approach by conveying a better appreciation for the application of psychological operations. Welcome to the School of Education's website, where you can read about our comprehensive programme of world-leading research, outstanding initial teacher education, and innovative taught courses. The School of Education has a long history of both teacher education and adult education that stretches back over 100 years. We are located on the award-winning Jubilee Campus and enjoy strong partnerships with many schools and other organisations locally, nationally and internationally. As well as training 300 new teachers each year in the UK, we run an innovative PGCEi course in over 15 countries. In the latest Research Excellence Framework, the vast majority of our outputs were assessed as internationally excellent, with over half given the highest possible score of 4*. Field Breaks started out in the Autumn of 2007 to provide a selection of professionally tutored illustration workshops in the Peak District. This followed the demise of similar workshops in the area and filled a much needed gap for people wanting short affordable art breaks in botanical illustration and landscape painting. Such was the demand for this provision that over the following years the programme has been extended to include a greater selection of courses and venues, along with a growing number of specialist professional tutors. 2020 and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic saw great challenges to all small businesses, including Field Breaks, with courses rescheduled for safer times. This was an opportunity however for founder member Sue to think seriously about her achievements, goals and ambitions, and after some deliberation decided to pass the business on to fellow artist Hazel. Along with many happy memories of running Field Breaks, Sue is enjoying the opportunity to start new projects. With the handover, Hazel decided to revitalise the old website - "I'm re-dressing the shop window while it's quiet!" Following suggestions from her peers, this also gave her the opportunity to re-think and amend the name from "Field Breaks" to "Field Breaks Art", which lends more focus under the artwork umbrella. We hope you like it! After the extended lockdown, Hazel added a new range of on-line mini workshops in the Spring of 2021, which were a lovely way to keep connected with other artists and share ideas. From July 2021 we were once again able to offer in-person workshops so the focus was to deliver quality tutor-led courses while maintaining a level of safety, including reduced class numbers to enable social distancing. In 2022 we are pleased to be able to offer another full programme of workshops in drawing, painting, botanical illustration, natural history, landscape, abstract, and mixed media including textiles and craft workshops in batik, jewellery making, lacemaking and felting. Landmarks started to offer day services and post-16 education in March 1995, where the curriculum was largely practical and land-based, working in farm buildings in Creswell, Derbyshire. Since that time Landmarks has grown and developed its educational offer so that by the time of writing this welcome, Landmarks supports over 150 post-16 and day service Learners, all of whom learn a variety of essential life skills from our five sites located across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. We have changed our curriculum from purely land and animal-based to include several vocational subjects such as; hospitality, catering, cookery, retail, administration and labouring. These additional subjects support our learners to make informed choices about the type of vocations they would like to follow. College life at Landmarks involves being taught in practical, real-life situations, whilst being supported by highly trained and experienced staff who are experts in working with learners with additional needs. It is important for me, as it is for my team, that whilst learners are with us, they focus on developing knowledge, skills and behaviour that makes a real difference to their lives. I hope from reading the case studies and outcomes featured within this website, you can see what difference that focus has made to our learners’ lives. I am extremely proud of all our learners’ achievements, either becoming more independent so that they can attend activities they enjoy or securing employment for the first time in their lives. Indeed, we are so keen to support our learners that when you leave Landmarks, should you need support to maintain employment or seek advice you can contact our dedicated ‘After College, Aftercare’ team.
