What is a Multi Academy Trust (MAT)? An academy is a school which funded by central government but run independently from the local authority. An academy doesn’t have to follow the national curriculum or keep to usual school holidays. A multi academy trust is a group of academies working in partnership as part of a single organisation called the trust Crompton House Multi Academy Trust was established to improve and maintain high educational standards across a number of member schools. Through collaboration and partnership, the member schools are able to share expertise and resources. The trust has responsibility for the overall governance, finance and performance of the member schools. Approximately a third of publicly funded schools in England are now academies (22 per cent of primary and 70 per cent of secondary schools), rather than maintained by local authorities. The idea of schools sharing provision and learning directly from each other is a powerful one and something which has been an ambition of government for at least the last 20 years. Welcome Who are we and what do we do? Books Beyond Bars UK is a collective of volunteers who send books and other educational materials, free of charge, to incarcerated LGBTQIA+ people across the United Kingdom. If you are an LGBTQIA+ person in prison, or know someone who is, click here for a copy of our main order form or here for a ‘discreet’ version with the full name of the project and any specific reference to LGBTQIA+ content removed. We receive letters from LGBTQIA+ people in prison in the UK stating what kinds of books and/or resources they want and need. From the books and zines we have in stock we then put together packages containing books, educational materials, and LGBTQIA+ resources. We try to meet requests as closely as possible based on genre and type from the books donated to us. Our decision to launch this project in the UK has been inspired by our sister project in the US, LGBT Books to Prisoners. The team there have sent book parcels to more than 8,000 incarcerated people across the US. To do this work, we rely on donations of books and funds to cover costs such as postage.

The company’s primary purpose is to promote & represent the interests of its member networks. In addition, the company aims to ultimately be a single voice for skills across the North of England. The Northern Skills Network Ltd (NSN) is a not-for-profit organisation and Its aim is to represent training and education providers from all persuasions across the north of England and promote the value of vocational and technical education, especially apprenticeships, to employers and other important stakeholders. Its members consist the nine providers networks across the north including: North East, Tees Valley, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Greater Merseyside, West Yorkshire, Sheffield City Region and Cheshire and Warrington. In all NSN represents over 300 providers, ranging from FE Colleges, Independent training Providers, Universities, Local Authorities and 3rd sector charitable organisations. Cartwheel Arts promotes social inclusion, cohesion, diversity and regeneration through community participation in vibrant, innovative, high-quality arts projects. We use a wide range of media to initiate, and respond to, project opportunities in Rochdale, Oldham, Bury, Wigan and North Manchester, as well as promoting the development of the arts and examples of good practice across the North West. Cartwheel has over 35 years experience of promoting imaginative, and often challenging arts projects - we do not shy from confronting difficult or sensitive issues. Our focus is on participation, enabling people who may have had little experience of the arts to explore and develop their creativity and talents, generating a sense of ownership and pride. We currently receive contributions to our core funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and Greater Manchester Combined Authority. In addition we receive funds for projects from a wide variety of sources, mainly charitable trusts, but also local authorities, the NHS and other government departments.
