Kaisa is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Edinburgh. She will will be there to guide you on the evening and demonstrate how to use different tools and techniques. You can then use these skills and tools to create your own unique piece of artwork.  The tools include the usual brushes, as well as fun items such as pallette knives, monoprinting techniques, wax pastels… And other things you’ve probably never tried before in painting, such as wall paper scrapers, cooking spatulas and squeeges. A fun night in good company guaranteed.

we began meeting twice a month - our main meeting on the fourth Tuesday with a speaker, demo or activity, and 'Alternative Tuesdays' on the second Tuesday every month - these are some times "craft & chat" sessions (bring your own craft) or sometimes we arrange an activity. We usually meet at the URC Hall on Duke Street, just off the foot of Leith Walk and Easter Road. We sometimes go to other venues for specific events.

The Institution of Civil Engineers Scotland Museum is home to a collection of over 500 items relating to civil engineering many of which have strong local connections including a number of items relating to the Forth bridges. The collection is owned by the Scotland Region of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and under an agreement between the Region and Heriot-Watt University the collection is hosted by the University. The museum is located at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Campus at Riccarton where most of the items are on display in cabinets in the east crush area of Level 1 of the William Arrol Building and other larger items are placed at other locations both inside and at the west end of the William Arrol Building. The museum is unattended; however, visitors are most welcome on any weekday between 7 am and 6 pm. There is an online guide which can be opened as a flip book or as a pdf file. Paper copies of the guide are also available at the museum on Level 1 (east end).

silverburn park

Silverburn is the former estate of The Russell family who were owners of the Tullis Russell paper making business. The land was originally part of the Barony of Durie and was leased to Mr David Russell by Charles Maitland Christie of Durie in 1854. A dower house known as Corriemar was also built and a flax mill was established on the site. David Russell died in 1906. His son, (also named David) and who later became Sir David Russell was born at Silverburn in 1872 and in 1912 married and went to live in Aithernie House. He returned to Silverburn in 1929. Sir David had a great interest in trees and many were planted including some rare and unusual species which continue to thrive today. In 1973, Sir David Russell’s son, Dr/Major Russell (Head of Tullis Russell Papermakers) gifted the houses and grounds to Leven Town Council, but also stipulated through the National Trust for Scotland that the “subjects should remain forever as a quiet area used for the benefit of the public in general and the people of Leven in particular for nature trails, quiet parkland and organised camping”. In the mid to late 1980s, the former Kirkcaldy District Council undertook a Job Creation Programme to reinstate Silverburn House for use as a Residential Centre for groups to use such as scouts and guides; school parties, caravan rallies etc. A stand alone wing to the rear of the House was used by crafters to make and show their wares throughout the Summer and Christmas/New Year periods. Silverburn Park Between 1990 and 1999, an average of 20,000 + people per year visited Silverburn. Its main attraction was the former “Mini-Farm” which had on show a wide range of domestic and exotic animals, birds, reptiles and insects. However, following a Council policy decision in 2002, to cease operating Animal Centres across Fife there have been very few visitors to Silverburn, other than local people. Financial constraints have also led to year-on-year reductions in revenue expenditure with no meaningful capital investment in the Park. Over the years, various ideas have been proposed for Silverburn including the setting up of a Scottish Music/Arts and Craft Centre and redevelopment as a crematorium. None of these have come to fruition.

This is a small, friendly and informal class particularly suited to beginners or those who are not particularly familiar with yoga. Each pose or asana will be explained and adaptations suggested if needed. The aim is to understand one’s own body, its strengths, challenges and capacity for movement. We explore how to bring new energy to the movements through the breath (prana) and letting go. You will be amazed at how regular yoga practice will improve your mental and physical well-being. Give it a go! Wear stretchy or loose fitting comfortable clothing. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day so that you are well hydrated for the class. Avoid eating anything heavy 2 hours or so before a class. Please bring a mat and towel or any other props you may need such as blocks or belts. I’m afraid no equipment is provided.

Established in 2010 by Goldsmith Ian Nicholson [http://www.thisisian.com/] and located in Edinburgh’s creative space Out of the Blue [http://www.outoftheblue.org.uk/], the Precious Metals Workshop (PMW) is Edinburgh’s leading independent workshop for goldsmiths, silversmiths, jewellers and hobbyists. We operate several programs based on helping people start their own jewellery careers, providing a free bench and facilities access as well as weekly business mentoring. We provide a range of specialised equipment including soldering stations suitable for casting, pickling tanks, wheel and barrel polishers, ultrasonic tank, bubble etching tanks for copper and silver, fly press, ring stretchers, stone setting tools, heavy duty vices, bench drills, hammering stumps, silversmithing hammers, draw bench and plates, metal guillotine, rolling mill, large and small kilns. We have an extensive collection of resource books on techniques and practices to support both our emerging and established makers.

The number of parents or carers on Parent Council can vary from year to year and co-opted members are also allowed, such as members of other community. groups.
