the cello teacher - lessons for all

As a freelance 'cello teacher I have many years of teaching experience from teaching in both the state and private sector. I have also work for Music Services, involving individual and group tuition, at junior and senior levels.  I try and use many of the pedagogical ideas of the ‘Kodaly System’, especially when teaching beginners, with its emphasis on singing,  musical games, rhythm and with the introduction of music-reading, fluency in the musical alphabet. Other areas of my work in education have always included close involvement in the production of lecture-recitals and demonstration workshops, mostly with the Astaria String Quartet, the Foundation for Music in Hospitals or in the past, Live Music Now! I have presented workshops and lecture-recitals for Arts Alive, Birmingham University, the City of Edinburgh Music School and the Education Department at Symphony Hall Birmingham, often to National Curriculum and National Lottery specifications. During the summer months, I have been a regular tutor on the 'Fantasia Music School' music course for many years. I have also researched authentic performance-practice and contemporary (classical) music, through both commissions and subsequent performances. This has led to intensive collaboration with eminent composers as well as time spent coaching student composers, giving me valuable insight into the creative process of compositions and the interpretive and technical difficulties for the performer. My own personal interest and inspiration has always been teaching, performing and coaching chamber music, specifically the genre of string quartets. As an experienced chamber musician, I have performed and coached the main works for string quartet, the chamber music for 'cello with flute, clarinet and piano as well as the solo repertoire for violoncello. Music lessons for guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals We teach electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and singing in our custom-built music studio in Kings Norton, Birmingham. Our Rockschool lessons for 7 to 17 year olds are taught in a rock-band environment. Students have a one hour lesson in guitar, bass, drums, keyboard or singing, and spend 50 minutes learning new techniques on their instrument followed by an exciting 10 minute jam session where students get to put what they have learned into practice, performing 2 rock or pop classics in a band with the other students.

So, who are Copycast Studios and where did it all begin? Take a look at the timeline below to see our journey... 2005 Dean & Natalie made the first mould of their newborn baby's foot in their kitchen using some leftover body-casting material that Dean was using for a replica movie prop project. After copies are given to relatives, positive feedback sparks a new business idea. I 2006 With research and a business plan, Dean & Natalie stumble across a vacant shop at Hatton Country World. Copycast Studios opens it's first premises in April 2006, leaving their salaried careers behind. I 2008 Shop premises closes. However, a steady growth and a customer-base covering The West Midlands, The Cotswolds, Birmingham, Worcestershire and Warwickshire (and occasionally other areas) sees the mobile baby casting service launched instead. I 2009 Copycast Studios starts making their own line of shadow box frames and keepsakes including personalised giftware. I 2010/11 Ebay shop opens selling DIY casting kits, box frames, casting materials and other keepsakes. Orders start coming in and we are sending parcels all over the country and even abroad. I 2019 After taking a back seat in place of other projects, a re-launch is planned that includes a new website focussing on casting services and DIY casting kits. I 2020 Copycast Studios continues to grow an online presence with shops on Etsy, eBay, MadeMe and the launch of the new website. I The future... With the outbreak of COVID-19, it's clear that the way we interact with each other and shop will change forever. Therefore, we'll adapt and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to create a beautiful keepsake of their own with more and more DIY casting kits and socially-distanced casting sessions. Wolverhampton Domestic Violence Forum (WDVF) brings together a range of agencies providing services and support to women and families experiencing domestic violence and abuse. WDVF leads on the development of the City's Domestic Violence Strategy. WDVF has approximately 50 member organisations and provides forum meetings, training events and participates in promotional activities on a local and citywide level. WDVF also provides an independent service to victims of domestic violence pursuing a case through the civil or criminal justice process. Our independent advocate is based at the Forum and the domestic abuse unit at Bilston Street Police Station.

Since our Foundation, in September 2014, we have staged over 120 exhibitions showcasing a varied body of work, by artists both emerging and established. Encompassing a diverse and multi-disciplinary range of artistic practices including: Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Illustration, Photography, Sound, Video and Performance Art. Our overarching ‘Philosophy’ is to actively encourage, enable, develop, mentor, facilitate, empower and support local creative arts practitioners from a wide range of background with a priority to engage in discussion around accessibility within the arts in relation to mental health, financial hardship and institutional bias. We have also provided work placements to a number of European students, via the Erasmus + and Gecko programme. Partnering with local Venues, Institutes and schools , we aim to develop a strong community that has access to free space, free mentoring and the ability to grow and learn from each others valuable experience and skills. The spaces are offered for hire and for free depending on the nature of the request and is offered to both emerging artists or collectives that deserve a space to explore and harness potential, or established artists with a strong visual aesthetic. Our initiative is to offer this space first and foremost to west-midlands based artists who wish to strengthen their local artistic community and create a discourse for regeneration. We curate approx one show per month in our two exhibition spaces and these are either from chosen submitted proposals or from exceptional and forward thinking artists that we find on our travels. In-between these exhibitions we encourage groups or collectives with a passion for community welfare and development to use the spaces for poetry , music, discussions, rehearsals , workshops or their own curatorial interests.
