Having qualified as a Barrister in 1994 I left the bar to become a specialist charity lawyer. I worked at the ‘coal-face’ as an in-house lawyer for a registered charity, Interchange Trust, and then on the other side of the fence as a legal advisor at the Charity Commission, before going into private practice. I have worked for various law firms including as Head of Charities for a major north east firm. My mission now is to support charity trustees and directors of NfP boards and empower them with the knowledge they need to carry out their roles with greater impact. Musical Buds CIC runs a community outreach project at North Fawdon Primary School, Newcastle upon Tyne. This provides quality Suzuki Recorder / Piano lessons to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn an instrument, due to financial and cultural barriers. Picture Musical Buds students Bursary paired lessons for a limited number of students who receive Free School Meals. This bursary project has begun with 10 students in year 3/4. They are keen to learn and it is highly beneficial to share the gift of music with more of our community. This is reliant on donations, so contributions are needed to sustain and extend this project. Other students at North Fawdon Primary School can book weekly half-hour lessons in school on Wednesdays: Individual lessons - £93 per half term Paired lessons - £46.50 per half term Fees are paid monthly/termly.

Newcastle Quran School is an established Quran teaching school located in Newcastle upon Tyne UK. The school is run by a group of highly qualified Quran teachers who are keen on teaching Quran memorisation and recitation to Muslims in the UK and abroad. After five successful years and more than 200 learners memorising one chapter (juz’) to the entire Holy Quran, we’ve decided to expand our reach and start our online school to serve the wider Muslim community in the UK. We teach students how to master reciting the Quran using ‘Al Qaidah An-Noraniah’, which is a special method for teaching Quran recitation that has proven to be very efficient for learning and correcting pronunciation for native and non-native Arabic speakers. The school is a branch of a well-established Quran School in Menya, Egypt where thousands of students from all over the world memorised the Quran and graduated. (https://www.facebook.com/hafazatalquran/) The Principal and the Director of Newcastle Quran School are both Hafiz (memorised entire Quran) with Ijaza and they too are graduates from Menya in Egypt. Alongside other members of the school board, together they have founded the school in Newcastle as an extension to the school in Menya. The school follows a special curriculum developed by the parent school which is designed to help students memorise and revise the Quran in accordance with their individual abilities.

Established in early 2016 the company was founded by Managing Director Graeme Rundle, to provide professional quality medical staff to events whatever the requirements, from First Aiders to Doctors and other Health Care Professionals whether this be on foot, car, ambulance or cycles. Graeme’s aim was to focus on quality, reliabilty and friendliness of staff and felt that his teams where needed should be part of and involved in the event and not just in the background waiting to be called up on and as part of the event prevent incidents occuring. A key focus was to have staff trained to nationally recognised standards and all staff are offered continued training and undergo regular refresher and up skilling training from first aid, incident management, trauma and safegaurding to name a few.

National Back Exchange (referred to as “NBE”) is a non-profit membership association whose goal is to develop, disseminate and promote evidence-based best practice in all aspects of moving and handling and musculoskeletal health. It is run on a voluntary basis by a National Executive elected from the membership and administered from a central office in Gosforth, Newcastle. NBE’s vision for “Excellence in all aspects of moving and handling” is supported with aims to reflect the growing recognition and significance of its work. The association consults widely with other organisations / stakeholders having similar goals and actively contributes to national working parties and projects as well as supporting research and practice development. ‘Column’, the journal of NBE, provides a valuable means of communication and is supported by web-based members’ forums where topics can be freely discussed and advice sought. Since 1992 NBE has run a highly respected and successful 3 day residential conference in September for people with an interest in moving and handling. The membership of NBE includes professionals from a wide range of disciplines, including: Health and social care Therapies Education Health and safety Ergonomics Equipment manufacturing Industry The development of an Advanced Membership category (similar to a post graduate diploma) in 2006 has increased the professionalism and recognition of personnel engaged in this field. Networking and support of our members is facilitated by an interactive website, including a membership directory, links with organisations who share similar goals (both at home and 3abroad). NBE has a number of local affiliated groups located throughout the UK which run meetings on a regular basis. The local groups are an excellent way to promote networking, to share and disseminate information and support members at a local level. NBE also provides a number of resources to support and develop practice including a series of information leaflets and professional publications.

North Tyneside Music Education hub engages with all 76 schools in North Tyneside. As well as ensuring that over 9,500 young people regularly engage in our wider opportunities whole-class tuition programme each year, we also support a network of self-employed music teachers who deliver small-group and individual instrumental lessons in schools. CPD We run programmes of CPD for music teachers and associated staff, provide curriculum support and design services and are always on hand to advise schools on how to make music provision the best it can be in each individual setting. Tutors Our team of NTMEH tutors also work to lead and support ensembles and choirs ran in schools, with over 3,000 young people regularly taking part in extra-curricular musical activities across the borough each year. Young Musicians Over 5,000 young musicians are regularly involved in our North Tyneside based hub events each year, and we also provide further opportunities for our young people to engage in other regional and national events with the support of our broad network of partners. Music Centre NTMEH Music Centre provides over 300 young people with the weekly opportunity to attend a wide range of bands, orchestras, choirs and a music theory group. All of these activities are free of charge. We also facilitate the Youth Music funded Standing Upright project, which provides access to musical opportunities for disadvantaged young people from across the borough, offering them the opportunity to work towards Arts Award qualifications and to train to become a NTMEH Young Leader. NTMEH is always keen to hear from you! Our music hub strives to offer as broad a range of opportunities as possible so that we can meet the musical needs of all young people in our borough.
