Turnhouse Golf Course came into being in 1897, initially only extending to nine holes, when members of Lothian golf club (established 1893) became dissatisfied of sharing Musselburgh Links with other non-course owning Clubs. Recognising the value for ease of access of a recently built Railway halt in those days of largely horse-drawn transport, they leased land from the tenant of Turnhouse farm. The venture was so successful in attracting more members that in 1898 the land now occupied by the car park and Clubhouse was bought, and what later became the greenkeepers’ buildings were used used as a temporary clubhouse where tea ‘in the large upper room’ could be had ‘for sixpence plain, with cold meat, one shilling.’. Work to extend the course to eighteen holes was completed by June 1900.

Earth in Common started as a grassroots movement under the name Leith Community Crops in Pots. We were born in a barren concrete yard in the heart of Leith, an underused and unloved spot. Our founder, Evie Murray, wanted to give her children a healthy outdoor experience in a crowded urban environment. Starting in her backyard (Dr Bell’s Yard), Evie and her children began to grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs. The physical and emotional benefits were obvious and, as the children enjoyed learning about food, they loved to eat their veg! Evie shared more about the many environmental, social and educational benefits of growing food in urban areas, inspiring other mothers to join in. She recruited a board and rolled out her work across Leith. We now have several integrated projects.

We commission new work, provide funding through a year-round programme of residencies and employ artists across all areas of activity. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is open to anyone interested in learning about or making sculpture. Our purpose-built spaces provide a unique environment and we regularly host organisations and community groups who want to make use of our facilities for their own programmes. For individuals or groups wanting to develop skills and knowledge our learning programme includes courses, tailored workshops and skills training. A free public programme of talks, exhibitions and tours provide other ways to get involved and meet artists.

Glenbervie Kindergarden and GX out of school club is a family run business which helps to provide the best start in life for children, in a homely like environment which promotes emotional wellbeing and togetherness. Children are at the heart of what we do and parents and families involvement are of the upmost importance. Glenbervie Kindergarden has been established for and providing care to children from birth to primary seven for almost 20 years. Each of our settings are unique and all offer the same high quality of care and education that our parents expect. The settings have all been refurbished quite recently to a bright, modern standard and all facilities are well resourced. Within our settings we offer a child centered approach, we encourage the children to be involved in their own learning and their achievements celebrated. Our staff create happy, caring and stimulating environments in which each child can develop, build confidence and can become more independant in their own right. For our younger children we have a range of baby and toddler rooms, designed to nurture and support the development of each individual child. For our older children in the Explorer rooms, we offer a breadth of learning experiences, where our skilled staff are confident in enhancing and deepening the child's learning. Our out of school Clubs offer fun, stimulating environments where children can socialise, play and relax before or after a busy day at school. Our nurseries and out of school facilities put a strong emphasis on learning outdoors and all settings have their own outdoor areas to support and extend your child's learning and exploration. Adventures outwith the gardens include visits such as, the local park, the library, garden centre or other landmarks, this helps to build the child's sense of connection with the local community. Our staff team have a wealth of experience and qualifications and are all registered with the Scottish Social Services Council and have up to date PVG checks. To ensure staff are well equipped to support the children's learning and development, staff undergo continuous professional development. A high percentage of our staff team are first aid trained, with us working towards all staff being trained in this. As well as our own staff we work closely with other professionals such as health visitor, social work, speech and language, educational psychologist and other various agencies. Within our settings we promote healthy eating, our snacks are varied and interesting and lunches can be provided by an outside catering company, who follow the current 'Setting the table' guidance. Parents also have the option to provide their own child's lunch. We are in Partnership with Falkirk Council and can provide up to 1140 funded hours for eligible children. From the Edinburgh Hat Studio, award-winning Scottish milliner and hat maker Sally-Ann Provan creates bespoke handmade hats, headpieces, & bridal millinery for weddings (the bride, her family & guests), Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta, investitures, Royal garden parties, special occasions, stage & screen. For every event and and everyday! Sally showed for two seasons at London Fashion Week in her own catwalk show, and her work and inspirations are featured in four books. She is also featured in the main film in the 'Fashion and Style' gallery at the National Museums of Scotland, and created a headpiece which was shown in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery as part of the stunning 'Beauty By Design' exhibition. She is a V&A Dundee Design Champion. Her hats have graced the heads several members of the Royal Family including HRH The Duchess of Cambridge; HRH Princess Beatrice; HRH Princess Eugenie; Zara Tindall; and Autumn Phillips, and other clients include First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins, and broadcasters Edith Bowman; Charlotte Hawkins and Francesca Cumani. She also creates headwear for opera, ballet, and theatre companies, television, and film. Each piece is designed and made with great attention to detail and finish. She is Scottish Opera's milliner making hats for over 30 of their productions, and other clients include The BBC, Scottish Ballet, The Royal Lyceum Theatre, and Netflix including a hat worn by leading lady Brooke Shields in 'A Castle for Christmas'. After her BA Hons degree in jewellery, Sally dallied a while in paper conservation and museum sculpture, before nurturing her passion for hats and accessories with comprehensive millinery training in London. Amongst others, she has trained under the late Queen Mother's milliner and with The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. She was one of 100 top British design business selected to exhibit at 'UK Now' in Australia, and also exhibited at the prestigious Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show.
