Nilay Islek was born in Izmir, Turkey. She completed her elementary and high school education in this city. Photography became her interest in her high school years. In 1999, she entered Dokuz Eylül University Fine Art Faculty and graduated with the thesis “Sensual Projections” in 2003. She completed her Master Degree in the same faculty with her thesis “Visual Culture and Social Memory in the Context of Digital Photography Aesthetics” in 2009. Islek started to perform Advertising Photography in 1995 during her education. While she moved up the career ladder, she became a sought instructor and gave lectures in several schools and associations such as Izmir Fen High School and Izmir Association of Photography Art (IFOD). Universiade 2005 Izmir Summer Plays was her first important international event as a member of the editorial board. After that, she has participated in several international events and projects. Her newest project is Izmir- Bremen Photography Artist Residency Program “Elsewhere” between 2017-2018. In the meantime, Nilay Islek started her own atelier, Artlens Visual Culture and Photography, which is a continuing education centre in the field of photography for eight years now. In 2016, Nilay Islek is chosen for the international title of Fujifilm “X-Photographer” as the first woman photographer from Turkey. She’s been given Basic Photography Courses Fujifilm Education Centre in Izmir as the official instructor of Fujifilm. She worked as a lecturer at Izmir Economy University between 2015-2018. On the other hand, her academic career is going on at the Ege University Faculty of Communication, Radio, Television and Cinema PhD program. She lives and continues her life of art in London. Lingua Diversa Group (LDG) was formed in 2002 by Esther Sahagun and Lucio Daniele, two language teachers who until then had enjoyed an extensive and fulfilling time in teaching Spanish and Italian to both adults and children. Lingua Diversa Group provide Language Training in Spanish, Italian, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, English, Polish, Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese at all levels. Other languages available on request. Lessons can take place either at your offices or at our premises anytime Monday to Saturday. We have been running language courses in many companies in the London area (e.g. management consulting firms, financial companies, marketing agencies, sports companies, oil companies). We pride ourselves in providing our clients with not only a professional and friendly service but also with affordable language lessons. All our tutors are qualified native teachers with extensive experience. The method we use is known as “the communicative approach” where the emphasis is always on the speaking and understanding of the language. Our aim is to provide the students with the language tools needed for real life interaction. RefuNet is about connecting refugees and volunteers who would like to teach them. We strongly believe that the best way for refugees to integrate into society is through face-to-face interaction. But to do so it's really important to be able to speak English. Lots of charities do amazing work offering English lessons in person but this doesn't suit everyone - people who are unable to travel, whether due to the costs or other personal circumstances, people who work during the day, or those who would rather learn from the comfort of their own home. Unfortunately, most schools aren't able to provide refugee pupils the support they need to keep up with other students, especially if their English level is low or they have missed schooling. For adults not in formal education, they may feel like there is no support at all. We hope RefuNet can be a way for people who want lessons on a really flexible basis to connect with teachers. We also think the 1-1 format means students benefit from really bespoke lessons and allows teachers and students to form a personal relationship.
