Shabbat walk was founded by Eliezer Gilbert in November 2015. Eliezer had been visiting the Royal Free on a weekly basis. The idea emerged when a group of volunteers wanted to also visit the Royal Free hospital on a Shabbos afternoon. The search was on to find volunteering opportunities for young volunteers. This quickly expanded to include care homes and visiting many other hospitals across London. From this idea a concept was born – Using a time that teenagers are free to have them actively engaging in acts of Chessed whilst simultaneously helping those who are in need of visiting. Avi Dubiner a volunteer for the Shabbat Walk (who was just 15 at the time) was instrumental in its growth. He encouraged over 200 young volunteers from his school and the community to get involved by volunteering regularly. This enabled the Shabbat Walk to expand its services into helping families on Shabbos afternoons and weekdays. Michal Morgenstern took charge of the girls side of the Shabbat Walk and coordinated over 200 female volunteers. The Shabbat Walk then recruited more coordinators to match the increase in the number of volunteers and volunteering activity. There are now 17 teenage volunteer coordinators who have specific duties and responsibilities and without them none of the volunteering activity would be possible. In April 2018 Chaya Hoff, a regular volunteer for the Shabbat Walk officially begun the Hospital project facilitating 100’s of volunteers 18+ to offer some respite and visiting of those in hospital. In September 2018 Avi Dubiner launched Shabbat Walk Israel. Over 50 volunteers from yeshivas and seminaries volunteer their time at local families. The Shabbat Walk also introduced regular Chaburah’s for the regular volunteers to learn about the torah values and concepts surrounding the topic of ‘giving’. This added the dimension of thought and intention behind the actions of volunteering.

We have 242 learners on roll. The SILC welcomes learners who are aged between 2-19 years with an EHCP which is generic in classification. I am extremely proud to lead a school that caters for a wide range of Special Educational Needs in a truly bespoke and individual manner. Our pupils have varying needs such as CMLN (Complex and Multiple Learning Needs), moderate or severe learning difficulties, social, emotional mental health needs (SEMH) or autism. Everything we do at West SILC is based around the individual and their needs, offering them specific environments at one of our 5 sites is key to being inclusive and individual. Our pupils grow in all aspects of their lives through their time spent with us and leave us as more confident, independent and happy young people ready to access the next stage of their lives. The relationships our staff have with our pupils and their families is at the core of all the work we do, we recognise that the work we do is not solely based in the classroom or at school and it is a lifelong learning journey we are support our young people on. Glass has always interested me and I have enjoyed working with glass for many years, repairing and making leaded glass panels and making terrariums as gifts. Lampworking In 2010 I started my journey of lampwork bead making . I love lampworking because of the reactions of the glass that occur when used with varying conditions in the flame and kiln using different types of glass. Beads can be made from a wide variety of glasses that if used together must be compatible with each other, and when worked can come out of the kiln looking totally different. Making sets of beads provides another level of accuracy to achieve. Opening the kiln the next day always brings surprises !! Studio Workshop Now that I have retired, my wife April and I have opened a retail studio workshop in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire. We run lampwork and jewellery making classes/courses which can be organised to suit your requirements. These are bookable on line. The lampwork studio can comfortably accommodate 2 students. I also provide one to one tuition for people wishing to learn individually. Findings along with my lampwork beads are for sale in the shop and I also do lampworking demonstrations, so if you’re interested come along and see me in action. The Karachi Aero Club (G) Limited was established on the 28th of July 1928 and is the subcontinent’s first flying institution. It was formed by an association of person’s whose common goal was to instruct the members of the club and others in the art of flying and the science of aeronautics. Ever since it’s inception it has worked ceaselessly towards the promotion of all branches of aviation and has established itself as a center of information and advice on all matters pertaining to aeronautics. Until the 1960’s the Karachi Aero Club had been operating from a purpose-built site in what is now known as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, with it’s own runway and hangar facilities. In addition to recreational flying activities and charter services the club provided other sporting facilities such as a golf course, horse riding school and skeet shooting range. It was regarded as one of the most prestigious institutions in the country as evidenced by its members which comprised of almost all the elite families in Pakistan, senior government functionaries, foreign attaches and senior executives of multinational companies. Many of these members owned their own aircraft which were maintained and serviced by the club. In the 1960’s the club was obliged to surrender its land for a greater national cause and moved its flight operations to the BOAC steel hangar and apron facilities at Karachi Airport. Hangar No. 301 was appointed to the Karachi Aero Club as an Engineering facility, and is still our base of operations till this day. The clubhouse is still owned and maintained at it’s original site in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and is used as a recreational facility by members.

I formalized my threadiness with a three year apprenticeship at The Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace, receiving the best training in all aspects of hand embroidery. From goldwork to bothsides alike with canvas work, stumpwork, beadwork, jacobean and many other wonderful techniques thrown in for good measure. Upon completing my apprenticeship I went to work for Jimmy Choo couture and the Jim Henson Company.
