ASDAN is an education charity and awarding organisation providing courses, accredited curriculum programmes and regulated qualifications to engage, elevate and empower young people aged 11 to 25 years in greatest need. We define young people in greatest need as those living in poverty, without support for their emotional and social needs, those with a special educational need or disability, those not engaged or succeeding in their education, who miss an English and/or Maths pass at 16 or subsequently, and who are at risk of becoming NEET. Our goal is to engage them through relevant and motivating courses to achieve meaningful learning outcomes, which elevate them to go on to further education, training and work, and empower them to take control of their lives. We do this by developing courses with an accessible and practical pedagogy for learners; and by working with our partner educators to foster the personal, social and work-related abilities of young people in greatest need. We know the development of personal, social and work-related abilities is vital for learners of all abilities because: strengthening these abilities supports academic and vocational learning they are particularly effective in re-engaging young people in greatest need they are important for accessing knowledge and skills at work they are especially important for entry level work they equip learners to live well and make full use of their abilities We believe that young people should have the opportunity to discover, develop and make use of their abilities to affirm their identities, contribute to society, and challenge educational and social inequalities.

Our regular coffee mornings and evening meetings are informal and relaxed. We often invite guest speakers from education, health and early years to talk to parents about local SEND services and answer their questions. Even if a particular guest speaker does not interest you, there is always time for a chat and a hot drink at every meeting. Children are also welcome to attend. There is no pressure to come regularly or even stay for the whole session as we know that your free time can be limited and unpredictable. Events We run workshops and training events for parents on a wide range of SEND-related issues. As well as gaining expertise and insight, you will be supported by other parent carer trainers who may have lived through the stage of your ‘journey’ and who will have knowledge and information to share with you that could be really beneficial. We also organise information days which give parents, carers and young people the chance to meet local services and providers. Partnership working We work closely with Brent Council, health providers, schools and other organisations to help design and deliver local services that meet the needs of children and young people with SEND. We regularly attend their meetings and committees to feedback the views and experiences of our members. Parent carers can help to highlight problems that are frequently experienced by families of children with additional needs, and this knowledge is useful to help professionals make informed choices about local services. Evidence shows that this sort of active participation leads to improved service provision, take up and ultimately better outcomes for children and young people with SEND. WHO WE ARE The forum is an independent, parent-led organisation that helps bring together parents and carers of children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Brent. We help and support families of children with SEND by providing information, advice and a listening ear. By gathering ideas and feedback from our members, we also work closely with local organisations to positively improve the planning and delivery of services in Brent for children and young people with additional needs and disabilities. Set up in 2017, our forum is run by a friendly group of volunteers who are all parent carers and understand the issues and challenges that looking after a child with SEND can bring.

We create innovative web-based applications to help all levels of the education sector, from pupils, teachers and school leaders right through to local authorities and large academy chains. Our tools are used nationwide, as well as internationally. We Believe… Everyone deserves a quality education; Freedom & creativity breed innovation; Excellence should be noticed & rewarded; Life is better with some fun & personality; Greatness comes from always knowing that you can be better; Angel is not its employees, but our beliefs. Those will live forever. The Angel Circus At the beginning of 2012, we converted our offices into a Circus so that our surroundings could reflect the personality and innovation that takes place within the company. Why a circus? Because the circus is a place where talented performers train hard and work to entertain and thrill their audience. In the same way, we want to wow people with our software, customer service and support. We love seeing visitors’ faces when they come to meet Team Angel at our circus. There’s a Big Top and gypsy caravan for creative meetings, a grandstand (complete with ball pool) for presentations, a full-wall blackboard for ideas and inspiration, plus fairground mirrors, a popcorn machine and plenty of other circus curiosities for fun. Most of our staff have even learnt to juggle! And really, it’s our staff who reflect the Angel Solutions DNA more than any props ever could. How We Encourage Creativity… Beyond the circus, creativity and innovation is central to how we work. We give staff plenty of opportunities to promote and showcase their talents, whether work-related or not, and place a high value on ongoing learning. Most importantly, we always strive to celebrate effort and creative thinking in our team, just as much as we celebrate their successes. For example, our staff might… Introduce a new work process to try to save time Trial a new technology inside one of our products Teach a skill or share an idea at a lunchtime smorgasbord session Work with a totally different team on an innovation day Run a staff training session to share their knowledge Do an online course to learn something new No matter how busy we are, it’s important to us to carve out precious time like this. We hold Innovation Days every month and encourage as many people as possible to pause what they’re working on to take part. During that time, teams can mix up and people have an opportunity to work on whatever they want! At the show and tell sessions at the end of these days, presentations are always met with the sound of applause and cheering, whether or not they worked out! Our Performers More than anything else, our company culture is genuinely reflected in the wonderful people who make up our staff team. Lots of our staff have been with us a long time now — some since graduating from university — and their hard work, dedication, expertise and creativity is rewarded. Take a look at our jobs page for more on the benefits we give our team, or see our Flickr photo gallery for a flavour of what it’s like to work at Angel. Want to Visit the Circus? We love it when schools, authorities and other current or potential stakeholders come to visit us here, and are always welcoming to the office groups of students or people from other sectors who want to come and meet our team. Only here at our circus can you get a true feel for who we are and what makes our products and services so special. Simply get in touch if you’d like to pay us a visit. We are hiring! Siawns Teg

Siawns Teg is a social inclusion charity that works in the community of Powys to break down the problems and issues surrounding unemployment, personal learning opportunities and health. Siawns Teg has a highly motivated and experienced team of Trainers and mentors and is connected to a number of other local support groups with similar ideals. We are well known locally and internationally for our innovative and effective ways of engaging people in their own destiny and opportunity. We challenge two misconceptions: 1. Some service providers say that “people with problems are hard to reach”. We say that people with problems often don’t have the resources to travel and research what services are available. The problem is that people find services hard to reach. We believe that service providers should be working to break down barriers of access for people they aim to support, not the other way round. 2. Some funders provide money for organisations like Siawns Teg based on the numbers of people who will benefit. In Powys numbers are much less than in urban populations, and so outcomes for funders are not so exciting. We believe that the problems facing people in rural areas are just as difficult as for those people in urban cities, and that rural communities should have the same opportunities. What we do Siawns Teg takes pride in helping people to help themselves. We do this impartially and without discrimination, regardless of what situation, difficulty or problem comes through our door. We provide a holistic approach, working with individuals either alone or in groups to look at problems and planning solutions. We are good at supporting people to fit in with their community at work and play. We see it as a community effort, that is not only a problem for the individual, but one for the community as well to help address. That’s not to say that individuals can dodge the responsibility, each person is motivated to see what they can do and to own their progress. We run local courses and mentoring for individuals that guide people to realise their worth to themselves and the community. The course are tailor made and can cover anything from giving people confidence to attend a course to starting their own business. Some courses carry a recognised qualification! Our style of support is unique and proven with partner organisations in Europe. We have a high success rate of engaging with the unengaged, and getting people into work.
