Based on old-world ideals with a loyalty to our family of local Artisan Cheese producers, we are a small, independently run business dedicated to the time-honoured traditions of the culinary and agricultural world of cheese. Established recently, Nick Birchall (one of the partners of The Cheese Shop) has worked directly with producers for more than 20 years in order to select cheeses at their peak. Our small staff of knowledgeable cheesemongers are experts in the field who love teaching through taste. We prioritise education in the art of properly maintaining cheese so that you can be assured of receiving the highest-quality products available. Cheese has been produced around Nantwich from the Roman times, when the Romans used the salt to preserve the cheese. Cheshire Cheese has been produced from cows fed on the pastures around Nantwich for centuries. Nick Birchall is a 6th generation farmer’s son and for the last 20 odd years he has worked with his life long friend, Carol Faulkner (Affineur & Judge) to build his in-depth knowledge of British Artisan Cheese. This led to Nick joining Carol at The Nantwich Cheese Festival (and other Festivals) as a Judge of Artisan Cheese. He is a self-confessed geek when it comes to cheese! In 2020 we opened The Cheese Shop on Hospital Street, Nantwich and offer over 150 different Artisan cheeses; depending on the season. Nantwich has one of the county’s largest collections of historic buildings, second only to Chester. These cluster mainly in the town centre on Barker Street, Beam Street, Churchyard Side, High Street and Hospital Street. Our shop is located in one of the buildings that survived the Tudor Fires of 1583. In order to celebrate Cheese, we created a “cellar” in the shop so that visitors can see the Affineur cosset the cheese. The cellar was built to enhance the quality of our products, as well as to honour the craft of each cheesemaker. It’s been designed to ensure that every wheel of cheese matures in its ideal environment. Cheese matures in the cool with a high humidity to achieve that perfect taste.

Our foundation was originally within residential care, where we realised that there was a need to provide a quality leaving care service. In residential care we gained significant experience, working effectively with challenging behaviour, mental health issues, offending behaviour, self harming and sexual exploitation.

I first found my way on to a Yoga mat in 2000 and immediately became an addict. The gradual effects of including Yoga as part of my life has changed my body, physically and mentally... and my life. Up until the age of 18, my hobby was dance, particularly ballet and lyrical. I danced my way through the RAD grades to intermediate level enjoying competing in festivals. I left to study Human Behaviour in Manchester. My study of dance gave me a deep understanding of movement, muscles, balance and breath. My studies at University brought me a deeper knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, psychology and other aspects of human communication. After university, I found my way into the world of design, advertising and media and worked for agencies in the Midlands and Manchester in various roles leading design, marketing, media planning and buying teams. I believe that the universe has a plan for us and when life threw me lemons in 2014, I made the big decision to become a yoga teacher full time. Best lemonade I ever made! All the experiences of life up to that moment seemed to come together. And now I can comfortably draw upon the different movement practices and styles of yoga I have experienced and studied on my life journey, so my classes are always imaginative, varied, dynamic and energetic with a interest in alignment, strength building and the therapy/healing that comes from movement with the breath. I teach yoga to everyone; athletes, pregnant ladies, rehabilitation, beginners and more advanced yogis. I adapt the class to suit the group or individual and their personal goals. My teaching style is clear and informative but also fun and my classes are informal so students feel at ease and confident to explore their ability. I have a passion for sharing my understanding of the anatomy of yoga and the positive effects of using the breath to help manage stress and anxiety. I hope that my passion and dedication comes across to my students so they can also feel the incredible benefits of Yoga. Whilst my personal practice has spanned more than 20 years, I completed my original 200hrs Yoga training in 2013 and have since gained further qualification amounting to more than 500hrs in Yoga Therapy for stress, Yoga therapy for digestive health, Pranayama, Yin Yoga, Circular Flow, Pregnancy Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. I maintaining a regular personal practice with my own inspiring teachers. To deepen my knowledge of Yoga and movement practice I regularly attend workshops and CPD trainings.

I (Silke Thistlewood, that’s me on the left with my 2 girls) set up a local networking group for mums in early 2017 after returning from (self employed) maternity leave and feeling decidedly isolated. I had lost my business mojo, felt pretty lonely, and couldn’t make any of the existing networking meetings (no babies allowed, too early, too late etc) so I decided to start my own. I called it Tonbridge Mums in Business and its facebook group grew to 500 members within just a few weeks (it surpassed 1,000 quite some time ago now). We’ve been having regular meetings ever since and the facebook community has grown from strength to strength, with the Thursday promotional thread having become a thing of legend. You have to see it to believe the amount of local talent! And now RuBC_LogoFinal_White_Rose.png In early 2019 I felt is was time to raise the bar and level up - in my own businesses and for the group. I had for some time been wanting to add more value for members - more structure, support and resources (mailing lists for meeting reminders, access to talks members can’t attend, accountability, goal setting etc). With 2 other businesses to run and young kids to look after this was logistically and financially not possible on a voluntary basis (paying for the yearly website subscription alone made my eyes water…..) so I made the decision to introduce a membership structure and a charge for the meetings. I very much hope that the pricing structure I have decided on reflects the value current members have gained from the group and the meetings, and the fact that most of us are working with small margins and reduced working hours crammed around child care and other responsibilities. To set the group apart from other networking meetings in the area, which are confusingly similar in name, the group has been re-branded and has a new name that I feel embodies what the group and community are - supportive, encouraging, non judgemental, inclusive, friendly and quite frankly, magical. I am blown away at each and every meeting by the friendships and kindness that members show each other. What you can expect Community, support, encouragement, friendship, collaborations, inspiration, education - online and in real life across both communities. Weekly check-ins, accountability prompts in the membership community to keep you on track, inspired and safe in the knowledge that this group of women will always have your back. We also co-work in real life and on zoom, go on walks together, discuss books and have coaching sessions with the one and only Action Woman. A wider community of businesses in the free facebook group with the chance to promote your business each Thursday, as well as getting to know others and forming friendships and a basis for collaborations. Someone will always have an answer to any questions you might have - business or otherwise. Regular networking meetings with expert speakers, mingling and cake and/or wine - and not an elevator pitch in sight (so no need to feel nervous). Easy going networking, without the need to “work the room” or hand out business cards at super sonic speed. Our meetings are informal but effective. Low key but inspirational, educational and supportive. I have found everyone in the group to be friendly and supportive of each other and encouraging of the development of one another's businesses. The facebook group and meetings have allowed for shared knowledge and experience in developing each others businesses. I have made great business links and come into work through the group, both paid and through joint collaborations. I have also made some lovely friends through the group which has been a really lovely added bonus CLAIRE READER, CAPTURE ME HAPPY PHOTOGRAPHY I started my Virtual Assistant business in the middle of last year and I am a regular on the weekly Thursday updates. These updates are great as not only do people learn how your business is growing but you can support and find out about other local businesses on your doorstep. I have not made it to one of the networking events that Silke kindly arranges yet, but I will, and when I do, I am sure it will be even more beneficial to my start up business than the group has been so far.
