Moorland Road Community Library was set up to manage and run the library in response to hearing that Council funding for the library would cease in March 2019. To prevent closure of this facility in our community, it will be run by the community for the community. We are all volunteer local residents. We believe that our library is a vital resource for our community, providing a community meeting space with the opportunity to continue to borrow books for free. We love the ‘click and collect’ services offered by the Bath and North East Somerset library service to its members. This means all existing library card holders can choose from the 2.5 million books currently held across the libraries of the south west, reserve them to arrive and be collected from Moorland Road Community Library. Of course library card holders can also choose from the books held on the shelves. We have created a new organisation and have gained registered charity status. We are independent of any other organisation.

The art of Tai Chi is probably the best known Chinese method of combining physical motion with mental stimulation and is recognised as one of the most effective approaches to fitness. It is estimated that more than two hundred million people are currently practicing it around the world and this number is ever increasing. Many actions of Tai Chi are based on circular movements which together with subtle shifting of weight develops flexibility and extremely good balance, making it ideal for all ages. It originated in the 17th Century in the Chen Village, China. Although currently better known for its health benefits, Tai Chi was first recognised as a fighting art. It is a graceful, slow-moving exercise and is different from most other forms of movement and exercise because it works directly with ones chi (qi or life force).

We are an independent motorcycle training organisation affiliated to IAM RoadSmart. We are also an active, friendly and welcoming riders’ club. ABOUT BRISTOL ADVANCED MOTORCYCLISTS Official provider of IAM RoadSmart training in Bristol. Although we are affiliated to the IAM RoadSmart organisation, and an official provider of the RoadSmart programme, Bristol Advanced Motorcyclists is a separate organisation, with charitable status. And whilst one of our primary purposes as an organisation is to provide a coordinated training programme to motorcyclists in Bristol and the west country region, the club is also an active social hub for riders. Participation in the club’s activities isn’t mandatory, but it’s a great way to meet other like-minded riders and to continue developing your skills. Once you’ve gained sufficient experience you may even wish to progress to becoming an IAM RoadSmart Observer yourself, and of course we can guide you towards that achievement too. In addition to the monthly Super Sunday events we also arrange group ride-outs, more extended trips both in the UK and Europe, talks and other social activities. Bristol blood bikes There is a close association between BAM and Freewheelers, the charitable organisation that operates the Bristol and south west region Emergency Voluntary Service (commonly known as the ‘Blood Bikes’). All of their volunteer riders must be qualified to Advanced standard and many of these have been trained by the BAM group. You can learn more about Freewheelers here: www.freewheelers.org.uk About the IAM The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is a national charity organisation, established in 1956, dedicated to increasing road safety by improving driving standards. Both the organisation and the training programme is now known as IAM RoadSmart. RoadSmart is a national training programme for drivers and riders aimed at developing their observation and control skills. The RoadSmart training programme is delivered at regional level by volunteer groups, such as Bristol Advanced Motorcyclists (BAM), who are a designated ‘Official Provider’. All Observers are accredited by IAM RoadSmart. When you begin your training you become an Associate member. Full membership of the IAM is awarded upon successfully achieving the Advanced standard. Once this standard is achieved there are no further testing stages (unless you opt to train to be an Observer) and you become a full, lifetime member of the IAM, subject to an annual renewal fee (currently £42 per year).

He developed an interest in accessible information and communication while working as a carer, and later as an accessible information designer for the NHS in Bristol. Pete Le Grys Founder Pete is the other founder whose specialisms are co-production, involvement and training. Pete has a wealth of experience in the health and social care sector and also worked for the NHS in Bristol where the pioneering work we do first began. Dean Milner-Bell Creative Director New to the team for 2022 is Dean Milner-Bell, who comes to us with many years of experience building the ‘Easy on the I’ symbol set based in Leeds, Yorkshire. Brigstowe’s HIV Awareness Training empowers professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to work confidently with people living with, affected by or at risk of HIV. Our HIV Awareness Training is open to all professionals; from front-line support staff, managers or HR personnel. We have experience in delivering to a range of professionals including: social workers, medics, Avon & Somerset Police, prison staff, mental health care providers, housing associations and other voluntary organisations. The organisation was registered as an independent VCSE in 2010 and is managed by an excellent board of trustees. Whilst the organisation retains a specialism in working with people with complex needs and criminal convictions, it can work with anyone in the community who is experiencing barriers in accessing training and employment. Many of our clients have complex needs in relation to homelessness, mental health problems, drug/alcohol dependency and offending behaviour. We pride ourselves on our non-judgemental, person-centred approach in our work with clients that builds their confidence, motivation and helps to inspire change in their lives.
