The West Bowling Youth Initiative (WBYI) is a small charity and local voluntary sector organisation based in a multi-cultural area of Bradford. It was established in 1991 by local people to work with predominately young British Pakistani Muslim men, especially those who were at risk of offending. The initial project was supported by The Prince’s Trust and subsequently gained funding and backing from other charities, EU and government funding and ongoing support from the local authority. Over the last 25 years, WBYI has broadened its remit and has developed a strong reputation for successfully engaging hard to reach young people, including those excluded or struggling at school, ex-offenders and those in the criminal justice system and others facing a difficult transition to adulthood. WBYI currently works with a core age range of 13 to 25 year olds including, employment support programmes; alternative curriculum programmes for schools and crime prevention work through personal and social development projects. In addition, school holiday programmes and sports activities cater for local 7 to 13 year olds and increasingly there is a demand for volunteering and leisure activity.

The African Caribbean Achievement Project (ACAP) was set up in 1995 to promote and raise the educational development of people of African & Caribbean descent. We are an education-based charity that has fought for racial justice and equality in education since we started and continue to do so to this day. We are a volunteer-led service and provide mentoring, advocacy and educational support to young people. We also provide advocacy and support services to parents as well as a range of other activities Over the years the service has developed to include young people from all sections of the community and not just African and Caribbean young people. Our service is inclusive and we assist all young people to realise their full potential in all areas of their lives. Since I was a child I have always had a passion for helping people, I would help the kids in the street and elderly people where I lived and then when I grew up and married I studied and practised Reiki on people with the hope and prayer that the Universe would work its unimaginable power through me for the good of all. I studied reiki in India as well as in the U.K. over twenty years ago. Fast forward to present day and I’m now in a profession that does exactly what I have always hoped for. I have been blessed with the opportunity to pass on the healing and my life experience in helping others, to overcome their problems and issues and find the work-life balance that we have been searching for years. My Reiki and healing centre is based in Saks within the David Lloyd leisure centre in Moortown, Leeds. CareerDays.co.uk was founded by former teachers who often came across students unsure of which career to go into. Career advice plays a big part in a students school life but we found many students often had no idea what career they wanted and were ill equipped to make that decision without experiencing each one beforehand. Many of our students would, for example, decide at 17 that they were interested in medicine but had no idea of the intricacies involved in applying or even if their skillset matched a job in the field. Similarly we've had students from an early age determined to go into a career without having gained any work experience of it to ascertain if it actually might be for them. We started in 2014 by running medicine work experience days and since then we've grown to incorporate several other careers that students would benefit from gaining work experience in and learning about, to help make their decisions easier when it comes to choosing a potential career. We have set about forging relationships with key industry figures and today have an extensive network of professionals that we can call upon to help run our courses and offer the best advice and advantage to our students. We formed CareerDays.co.uk to offer students the chance to experience a career that may be of interest and give them an honest insight into the field so they can decide to commit to it or to look into alternate careers. Either way offering some valuable information to them in order to help them make the right career choices.
