"the Gloucestershire dialect seemed like a foreign language" WORKSHOPS - COURSES - MENTORING Dialect is an inclusive literary development platform for rural writers. Our home is in Gloucestershire but we reach rural writers all over the UK and beyond. Dialect is here to develop talent, connect with communities and offer rural writers opportunities to share their work. Our Story Dialect launched quietly in July 2020 with an online Summer School of taster workshops. A programme of workshops around Stroud Book Festival followed, along with regular critique workshops, courses, a Writer In Residence scheme in partnership with Lake 32 and an Arts Council funded mentoring scheme. We are now offering regular courses focused on the craft of writing and immersive writing workshops in intriguing rural locations. Dialect is now a Community Interest Company, committed to investing in literature and author development. We will soon be launching DIRT, a plantable ecopoetry press… Ethos Dialect speaks from the edges of things. We celebrate the remote and the pastoral, the mountains and hills, the woods and the wilderness, the coasts and waterways, but also the small town and its suburbs, the retail parks, verges, dual carriageways, wastelands, lay-bys, scrapyards, agricultural spaces, derelict mills, industrial estates, motorway services, recycling centres, the spaces and voices in-between.

We specialize in Basketball and Football coaching, taught by experienced and professional coaches. The aim of this academy is to correct and modify the methods of training which have been provided to the community for the past decade. With these ex-professional players, each area or sports category will be well developed. Students will be trained according to their skill level and needs, which means a proper evaluation will take place and an appropriate training arrangement will be designed for them based on their evaluation results. We hold many different events, where members and potential members can get to know each other, and become involved in all sorts of interesting activities. As a charity that focuses on education and opportunities for women, we are a group of over 8,000 women in Surrey that work together for our common goals. Each WI in Surrey is a member of the Federation and they meet at least monthly to engage in a wide range of interesting activities, including clubs, groups and events. At monthly meetings members enjoy practical workshops and lectures. However, it is important that we also have the opportunity to engage outside of our individual WIs. So as a Federation, we aim to put on events in different parts of the county so that all members have the opportunity to attend. We have a presence at agricultural shows, hold workshops and have two countywide meetings each year in Dorking. Our wide variety of events ranges from literary lunches, a day out in London either for Christmas shopping or for a walking tour with a blue badge guide, fiendish quizzes, cream teas, fashion shows, down to learning new crafts such as portrait painting or willow weaving. Everything is possible and the members are encouraged to send in their ideas for the committees to consider for future events.
