Craft Allotments CIC (Community Interest Company - Limited by Guarantee) is based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. We were founded in 2018 by Pamela Lloyd, PGCE, BA Hons (Lit), Hons Dip Fashion - an Adult and Community Tutor specialising in Creative/Life Writing, Oral History projects and Crafts. Pam had become frustrated by funding cuts, lack of fulfilling work for people over 50 and the rise in the pension age - along with an ever increasing rise in social isolation and poverty in the Barnsley area. However, inspired by witnessing the creative abilities and potential of the people she worked with, Pam set out to establish a 'Creative Community of Practice' where people aged 50 and over would have an opportunity to rediscover their creative talents and would be encouraged to share their skills in a variety of positive ways, including creating opportunities for fulfilling self-employment.

In 1957 several people were keen to set up their own dinghy racing club. In fact, they were so keen that they rolled up their sleeves, dug out an access track to Harthill Reservoir and worked together to build their own clubhouse. The clubhouse at Rotherham Sailing Club The clubhouse at Rotherham Sailing Club Today the clubhouse has been extensively refurbished providing facilities that those early members would not have dreamed of, but the spirit of the club has remained the same: competition on the water and co-operation off the water. The club enjoys a family atmosphere which is as supportive to beginners as it is encouraging for those keen to develop their racing skills. There is a strong youth section which is helped by the provision of a fleet of 4 club Toppers and regular training opportunities, under the careful supervision of RYA qualified instructors.

Founded in 1931, the Yorkshire and Humberside Federation of Museums and Galleries was one of the first regional federations to be established. It is the only dedicated membership organisation for people working in or for the benefit of Museums and Galleries in the region. It exists to represent, support and develop its members through regular meetings, newsletters, training, consultation and lobbying. How We Work The Fed is a membership organisation run by you, for you! The Fed is administered by an Executive Committee made up from its membership, and elected by you, the members, at the AGM. The Executive Committee reports back to the membership via quarterly meetings, which are open to all. The Fed is only as active as its members. The Committee is open to all and we are very keen for members to express an interest in joining the Committee to keep a flow of new ideas coursing through the organisation! The Sapphire Project Organisation is an exciting new modern-day service for adults age 18 and over living with a learning disability. We want to understand what people want from their support, and to make sure that families and friends know how we will help them to make it happen. We offer a unique learning environment for our service users and although support needs may differ, we know that with the right support, people with learning disabilities can live full and meaningful lives. Aims Our aim is for service users to develop competence, respect, dignity, responsibility, independence and to promote their inclusion within the local working community. Working closely with service users we aim to find out what their passions are and wherever possible assist with overcoming challenges and removing barriers in order to enable them to live more fulfilling lives. What we offer Service users are offered the opportunity to develop transferable work skills, enterprise skills, independence skills, practical skills and social skills all within a variety of settings while being supported by qualified staff. Our project includes a café, a licensed bar and a kitchen garden all of which is open to the general public. We also offer a opportunities to develop general maintenance and wood working skills. Service users also have the opportunity to carry out a number of routine domestic tasks to help develop their independent living skills. These include, planning and shopping, cooking meals, basic housekeeping, getting out and about in the community and residential experiences. We support people in developing work and independence skills whilst having fun and making friends. Our aim is to break down barriers and to promote inclusion within the local community. What Makes Us Unique? We want to offer people the chance to learn valuable life skills along with work skills and our base at Hillsborough Arena provides us with numerous opportunities to achieve this objective. We offer an attractive, non-institutional environment with a team of committed staff with a very low rate of staff turnover, so people can develop strong, beneficial relationships over many years. We also offer a dedicated key worker to overlook and support the needs of both the service user along with the parent/carers. We want to understand what people want from their support, and make sure that families and friends know how we will help them to make it happen. The birds are chirping, the gentle wind rolls across the hills while wellington boots search for puddles. The woodland has been checked and the equipment is ready to be taken with us, our focus in on the wellbeing, physical and emotional, of each person within our community. Gathering together, we check in on how each person is feeling and what they wish to explore during their time in nature. We introduce new ideas and invite them to engage our help when they wish to. The woodland space is a blank canvas, full of textures and materials to enrich the senses and stimulate the learning journeys that we will all undertake. As leaders we have both an idea for the direction of the day should learners need us to provide this for them, but also understand the importance of encouraging them to decide their own direction. During this time of exploration and discovery, our role as a leader is to provide the nurturing they need whilst also encouraging them to stay with challenge and to make sense of the experiences they have. Through review and reflection their voices are heard, and their emotions are recognised.

We offer support and encouragement in living, social and practical skills to enable people with learning and physical disabilities to enjoy independent lifestyles. Who We Are Enable (Sheffield) is a charity based training organisation for people with disabilities. Our aim is to offer a quality care and training opportunities to meet their individual needs. Our training areas deliver themed subjects and topics relevant to suit our learner’s abilities and skills. First opening for business in 1994, with the intention to make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities in Sheffield. From the offset we have always involved our learners in the decision making process, and this is, we believe, the key to our success. Enable (Sheffield) has grown to become a well established and renown training provider for disabled adults in Sheffield, but began life in very humble beginnings. Founder Alan Finchett rented a room in a local school, for disabled adults from the area to use, initially repairing and recycling toys and bikes but gradually more activities were added to the schedules. Within a year, with more learners attending, space was getting tight so it was soon time to move to bigger premises. Skip along 8 years and demand was so great for places that work started on our purpose built building. Exactly 10 years after starting, Enable was ready to move into their new home. The centre has been designed specifically to meet the demands of disabled people, offering a bright, spacious learning place for all.
