The Hoxton Trust exists to make the area of Hoxton and Shoreditch a better place for everyone who lives or works there. We do this by supporting those most economically and socially disadvantaged with opportunities to build their levels of skills, knowledge and confidence; by providing free legal advice and assistance to those without the means to otherwise obtain it; and by managing and maintaining a community garden for the health, wellbeing and general enjoyment of everyone. We also help organisations with similar aims to ours by hosting them free of charge or at a discounted rent in our building at 156 Hoxton Street. Currently, we host a drug and alcohol rehabilitation service, a charity committed to ending female genital mutilation (FGM) and a local group, Calibre Minds, that works to support teenage boys by providing them with training in practical skills like joinery, plumbing and electrics. We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee that invests in local people and local projects to build community pride. We are run by a Board of Trustees, made up of residents and members of groups interested in the work of the Trust. The day to day running of the Trust is carried out by the Executive Director.

Open-access after-school and holiday programmes take place in our purpose-built youth centre in North Westminster. Activities encompass sport, healthy cooking, music, art, dance, radio, skills development and career pathways. "When I was 13 I relocated from Leeds to London to take up a full time scholarship place at the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, I received some of the best training and opportunities a young girl could wish for. After finishing school I was fortunate enough to be chosen for another full time scholarship place at Millennium Dance 2000 College for 3 years performing arts training. Even with all this incredible training I still look back fondly at the small performing arts school I attended one night a week in Leeds : Scala Kids. I owe a lot of my skills to the training I received there and would look forward to going to my classes every week without the pressure of taking exams or doing competitions. I was made to feel like part of the "Scala" family and felt free to be creative and express my talents. This is how I want the Theatre Skills Academy to be- a place where kids can come to be creative, build confidence, feel equal, learn new skills, improve their talents, and have FUN. All the teachers at TSA have vast experience as both a professional performer and teacher and have a lot of knowledge to offer the children. Every lesson will work on different theatrical skills, whether it be building confidence, improving co-ordination, developing facial expressions, or performance technique. Shabbat walk was founded by Eliezer Gilbert in November 2015. Eliezer had been visiting the Royal Free on a weekly basis. The idea emerged when a group of volunteers wanted to also visit the Royal Free hospital on a Shabbos afternoon. The search was on to find volunteering opportunities for young volunteers. This quickly expanded to include care homes and visiting many other hospitals across London. From this idea a concept was born – Using a time that teenagers are free to have them actively engaging in acts of Chessed whilst simultaneously helping those who are in need of visiting. Avi Dubiner a volunteer for the Shabbat Walk (who was just 15 at the time) was instrumental in its growth. He encouraged over 200 young volunteers from his school and the community to get involved by volunteering regularly. This enabled the Shabbat Walk to expand its services into helping families on Shabbos afternoons and weekdays. Michal Morgenstern took charge of the girls side of the Shabbat Walk and coordinated over 200 female volunteers. The Shabbat Walk then recruited more coordinators to match the increase in the number of volunteers and volunteering activity. There are now 17 teenage volunteer coordinators who have specific duties and responsibilities and without them none of the volunteering activity would be possible. In April 2018 Chaya Hoff, a regular volunteer for the Shabbat Walk officially begun the Hospital project facilitating 100’s of volunteers 18+ to offer some respite and visiting of those in hospital. In September 2018 Avi Dubiner launched Shabbat Walk Israel. Over 50 volunteers from yeshivas and seminaries volunteer their time at local families. The Shabbat Walk also introduced regular Chaburah’s for the regular volunteers to learn about the torah values and concepts surrounding the topic of ‘giving’. This added the dimension of thought and intention behind the actions of volunteering.
