In 2018, Gateway Education sold its US operations in order to focus on its core market, the UK. Upon completion of the transaction, all responsibilities for servicing students were transferred as of 11th December 2018. Gateway Education no longer has a presence in the US. In the meantime, Gateway Education is committed to continue growing the opportunities it offers to Chinese students in the UK, having serviced close to 1000 students this year through high school and summer programmess. We know the local demographic well… Pace Tutoring is run by Pete Aldred. I am a highly experienced local teacher, having taught both at KS1 and KS2 within Gloucestershire schools. I attended primary and secondary school in Cheltenham and have two children currently at schools in Cheltenham and Gloucester. Our local knowledge makes us stand out from the crowd. Where other impersonal online agencies advertise tutors from a CV, we are much more selective about who we work with. We have personally met and vetted all our tutors, including ensuring they hold an enhanced DBS certificate and have provided their qualifications and identification. We recognise the pressures that having a great selection of high-quality schools in the area puts on parents and pupils and understand that sometimes, a classroom environment can be a little overwhelming. Many children feel anxious to offer their answers and opinions in a class situation for fear of making mistakes in front of their teacher and peers. This is where a personal tutor can make a real difference. Your child will feel comfortable within a safe and secure environment and our tutors will ensure they carefully build confidence and challenge at the right level. In 1968 Denise Keenan from St. Augustine’s Church here in Park Ward, began running a pre-school play group. She and a small team of volunteers extended this to community lunches, English classes and social activities in response to local need. When Calderdale became a dispersal area for people seeking asylum in the early 2000’s we started to support people who had arrived locally to settle into life in the UK. In 2009 St Augustine’s Centre became an independent charity, continually evolving and welcoming all, regardless of faith, ethnicity or background. Now Calderdale’s specialist charity working with people seeking asylum and refugees as well as local people, we have 16 staff, 170 volunteers and a community of 650 individuals and families from 57 countries. We offer specialist advice on immigration and asylum support, and one to one support with welfare, housing, health and access to wider services. We provide hot meals, English language classes, training, cultural, social and wellbeing activities, trips and volunteering opportunities. We offer spaces for reflection and a befriending and integration service. As a core member of the Valley of Sanctuary, we want to share stories and build awareness about the experience for those fleeing war and persecution, advocating and campaigning locally and nationally. 52 years on, Denise still volunteers at St Augustines.

Sporting Influence was founded in 2012 with two key aims: To improve the standard of teaching and opportunities in Primary School Sport. To improve key Social Skills through Sport. At Sporting Influence, we firmly believe that teaching sport correctly gives children the best chance in school to develop a positive attitude towards a healthy lifestyle and the potential to move into secondary school with those important social skills. Our drive to develop well rounded and healthy children is at the core of everything that we do, in every lesson, after-school club, competition or day at our holiday camps. Since the business started we have recruited and invested in our team of teachers and I can confidently say that we have one of the strongest most dedicated teams of experienced professionals across Yorkshire. We are excited to launch our Sporting Influence CIC Foundation fully in 2022 and look forward to making a big difference in the community to children and families in need of extra support. We are proud to say that we now work with: Over 35 schools every week, predominantly working alongside the school’s teaching team to improve their skill set and confidence. We work directly with over 2000 children every week. Our holiday activity Camps continue to grow with over 3,500 children attending over the course of last year.

Hi there! I’m Karen Holmes, manager and owner of Play Academy. In the Summer of 2019, my life took a huge, exciting turn when I took on this wonderful club. Up until then, I had spent 20 years as a very happy & successful Primary School teacher. During my time as a teacher, I had the pleasure of working with many, many children across the primary age range. I also trained as a student mentor and worked alongside trainee teachers supporting & developing practice. In addition to this I was also responsible for the PSHE curriculum across the whole school, an area I am still massively passionate about. Whilst building my career as an educator, I was also bringing up my two gorgeous sons Toby & Zach. Because I was juggling being a mum with being a teacher, I fully understand the desire parents have for quality wrap around care for children; it’s something my husband and I accessed for our two lovely boys during their primary years. As my career progressed and opportunities were being put in front of me, I paused for a bit and realised that teaching was no longer for me. I was spending less and less time doing the things that had steered me into teaching in the first place; planning, creating & facilitating new and fun quality experiences for children. I wanted to get back to just having ‘fun’ with little people, blowing bubbles, building dens, playing boards games, enjoying the outdoors and most of all…….laughing! To allow children a comfortable, home from home space to practise being good citizens, develop key life skills and master the art of a two way conversation.

Lighthouse Futures Trust is an innovative and forward-looking organisation with a mission of changing the lives of young adults. We do this by designing and delivering engaging employability programmes that include opportunities to work with a range of local employers via a supported internship. Our curriculum focuses on two areas – Liveability and Employability – and is aimed at students aged 18+ with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP). We start by getting to know each of our interns so that we can understand their skills, experiences and aspirations for the future. We then devise a bespoke programme for them which combines a range of different elements including: working on-site at a range of local employers; 1 to 1 coaching & mentoring; group work; support in gaining qualifications in Maths and English; participating in an enterprise project where they learn to create and launch a new product and service. Our talented students have a range of support needs. Some have mild to moderate learning disabilities, others are on the autistic spectrum or have social, emotional or mental health support needs. They join the programme because they want to move into paid employment and showcase their many skills and talents and just need some extra support in order for them to fulfil their potential. Our role – and our passion – is to help unlock their talents and shine a light on their abilities. From the beginning of their journey with us, we support or students to develop skills so that they can forge their own pathways in work, accessing specialist support as and when they need it, but taking ownership of their future, from the start. We believe that this helps them to find and keep paid employment more easily, and thus create a more sustainable future.
