Inova has been running since 2001 and provides consultancy services, training and coaching programmes in the areas of entrepreneurship, employability, career development and wellbeing, with a focus on diversity and equal opportunities. We work with a wide target group for which we provide a variety of training and support programmes. Much of our work focuses on supporting those who are under-represented or who face challenges to fulfil their potential, and many of these are co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. Our funded programmes have helped many of those who are most vulnerable, including migrants, NEET young people, older people and women who have been victims of violence, trafficking, homelessness or abuse, to name a few. We have worked extensively with entrepreneurs, artists and women in non-traditional fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM). Our director, Marina Larios, is president of WiTEC, the European Association of Women in SET. Our programmes use coaching and mentoring to support individuals to develop their ‘soft skills’, build confidence and self-efficacy and reflect on and achieve their goals. Our in-house trainers have over 50 years of experience between them and can provide one to one coaching, workshops and Enterprise/Career/Mentoring and Mindfulness Circles™. Our Circles are a series of products developed by Inova which combine mentoring, coaching and action learning to support individuals to reflect on and develop either a new or existing business, change or progress in their career or consider their personal life goals. This methodology was recognised by Aberdeen University business academics as a successful programme for the development of entrepreneurial skills and they have since been adapted to support many other people in different areas of life.

BARKING ABBEY SCHOOL IS A VERY LARGE SCHOOL ON TWO CAMPUSES IN EAST LONDON THAT SERVES THE BOROUGHS OF BARKING & DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE. We are a non-selective, comprehensive twelve form entry school with a proud tradition of academic and sporting success. The school is very popular in the local community for both Year 7 and sixth form admissions and is heavily oversubscribed. Barking Abbey School was founded in 1922 as one of the first co-educational grammar schools in England at the site in Longbridge Road. At the time, it was situated in a largely rural area, with fields and farmland close by. Gradually, as Barking began to expand as a residential centre, the school became the focal point for the community with an educational provision of national standing. In 1970, Barking Abbey Grammar School was merged with Park Modern School to form the Barking Abbey School we know today. Many traditions of the old schools remain, but with important developments to enable the school and its pupils to be fully prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of life in the twenty-first century. One thing remains central, however: we are an outstanding success. Barking Abbey school has a very large Sixth Form with approximately 450 students. As a result of this we are able to offer a large range of courses to our 16-19 year olds. We are proud of the fact that we are a multi-cultural community and we seek to celebrate our diversity in as many ways as possible. AVK-SEG was founded in 1989 and were initially the UK specialists for both the AVK and SEG product ranges including protection relays for grid applications. We quickly established a reputation as experts in Diesel Rotary UPS systems (DRUPS), which became our core business for a number of years. We recognised early the shift in the marketplace towards Static power protection systems, and set up an exclusive partnership agreement with one of Europe’s largest manufacturers to supply and maintain large numbers of their equipment in the UK, which enabled us to build on our reputation but also increase our brand recognition. More and more of the large-scale projects we were involved in required Diesel Generator sets in addition to the UPS we offered, and as the trust in our team and experience continued to grow, we were approached by a number of clients to take on further responsibilities for their critical power systems. To meet these demands for a ‘one stop shop’ we expanded our offering to include other products that complete a power protection package – Generators, UPS, Switchgear, Relays and Controls. A number of global manufacturers were keen to work with us, and with their support, we were able to diversify our offering and open up a range of business opportunities. Initial success delivering LV projects for Telecoms quickly grew into massive successes delivering large scale HV multi-module projects for Data Centres and various campus sites, enabling us to become the UK’s leader in critical power solutions. My name is Amy Powell and I am a catalyst for reconnecting people with their innate creativity. At Bristol Art For All we facilitate friendly, inclusive learning environments where people can explore their creativity. We started in 2015 running an open access drop in face-to-face community art class in Easton in Bristol. From December 2019 to March 2020 sessions moved to Hamilton House in Stokes Croft Bristol and since April 2020 have been online. Online sessions are run in partnership with local charities as well as sessions open to all adults. Current partners include Age UK and St Mungo’s Recovery College. All online sessions are around a theme selected by the participants, who use the art materials and skills they already have to devise their own projects. Support is on hand to give input on what is made. The sessions act as an online art studio with time for making and opportunities to share and get feedback on artwork. Participants are seen as artists first with the acceptance that we are all on our own life journeys. The focus is on creating learning environments where people enjoy the process of making. With this strong foundation people can have the confidence and resilience to develop further skills. This website gives a taste of the work made over the course of Bristol Art For All. Myself and Rosa Hewitt began Bristol Art For All in 2015. In 2017 Rosa went to the University of Hertfordshire to study Art Therapy. She now works in London as an art therapist with children. I continued with the project in Bristol with the support of volunteers, building my knowledge, experience and skills by studying courses in teaching, facilitation, communication and social enterprise. As well as volunteering with Arts and Health organisations including Studio Upstairs, Bristol Art on Prescription, Workers Education Association (WEA), Milestones Expressions programme and St Mungos Recovery College where I currently run their online art class. I love being a catalyst for people to reconnect with their creativity. It is a great privilege to have worked with over 200 people across Bristol and beyond. Some have attended for years others for one session but all have been welcome and encouraged in their art making. I am currently in the process of making Bristol Art For All into an online art school to reach people who would otherwise struggle to access mainstream arts education. I am interested to connect with organisations, which work with clients who would benefit from exploring and developing their creativity with the support of being in a group.

It was clear that this could create something purposeful to benefit others. Challenging conventional boundaries and combining differences revealed a rich and resourceful seam of learning and creativity. There is an apparent gap between creativity and logic; it does not have to be that way. There is an imaginary space between the past, the present and the future. The imagined space is a flaw in perception: we all know that our past and future reside in our present. There is an outmoded belief that our personal lives and professional lives are distinct from each other. Yet, we all remain at the centre of both. When we bridge these gaps, rattle our perceptions and challenge outmoded beliefs, new opportunities reveal themselves, often in surprising and exciting ways.

Over recent months, much thought has been given to our key educational priorities, as we seek to enhance every aspect of our provision. High quality academics, committed pastoral care and excellent co-curricular opportunities form the cornerstones of that ambition. When a pupil moves on from Edgeborough, they will do so with a legacy of experience, knowledge, curiosity and the confidence to successfully navigate their onward journey. It is important that we remain focused on the fact that great schools are grown by what is achieved in and outside the classroom; the quality of teaching, breadth of opportunity and strength of community. Pupils learn best when they can actively interact with their learning, developing skills which can transfer across subject areas and when the enormous benefits of learning beyond the immediate classroom setting are realised. Our commitment to deliver this vision is unwavering and there is a great sense of excitement as we set our compass to make further progress. For such depth of ambition there is also a need to ensure that we have the appropriate infrastructure to support our educational vision. Consequently, we have commissioned a detailed analysis of current facilities against future requirements. Although new buildings will be introduced where appropriate, the aim is to redevelop existing spaces where possible and to minimise new construction. This approach significantly reduces disruption on the site and allows for projects to remain cost-effective and environmentally sustainable. Having an infrastructure plan to support our educational vision ensures that we avoid piecemeal developments over the coming years, which could otherwise result in a poorly considered future site. It also allows us to prioritise key developments based on cost, condition and need. With the repurposing of some existing spaces certain projects will need to be prioritised to allow space for subsequent developments to take place. The rate that proposed projects are delivered depends on the future performance of the School, the wider economic climate and the required planning consents. Our highly experienced Leadership Team and Governing Board will work with ambition balanced with measure. Excitingly, this summer has already seen the full refurbishment of five Senior Block classrooms, spaces designed specifically for modern teaching and learning. Plans are also already in progress for the next phase of works. This is a tremendously exciting time to be part of the Edgeborough community as we work with our Charterhouse partners to take our ambitious plans forward.
