We are situated 1.5 miles south of Durham City centre at Houghall Farm, Houghall Campus, East Durham College, just off the A177. Our flying grounds are primarily within Houghall woods, a local attraction during the Spring for its blooms of wild bluebells. Houghall farm is a mixed livestock and arable farm, which dates back to the 12th century, with a history of monks growing and harvesting crops and sheep for use in the Cathedral, Cloisters and Castle. Houghall farm and its surrounding woods and ponds are home to a wealth of British wildlife, which our customers often have the delight of encountering on their falconry experiences. What we offer We offer one-to-one and group falconry experiences with birds of prey. We fly hawks, falcons, owls and eagles over 450 acres of farm and woodland. We offer our customers the opportunities to get up-close and personal with a range of birds of prey through static and flying demonstrations, hawk walks, training and craft skills, and Raptor Awards courses. We also offer art and photography sessions and educational talks. We are an inclusive business and can offer falconry experiences regardless of customer capabilities. PETA was founded in 1970 by Alex Zemenides who, at the time, was Managing Director of component manufacturing company Sealectro. At the time, Zemenides felt there was a lack of training and development opportunities for his staff in the local area. Training that could be tailored to his staff and business, that met industry and commercial standards and that didn’t have to work around a rigid syllabus or programme. Together with five other local businesses, he created the Portsmouth Engineering Training Association – PETA – that was based in Southsea, Portsmouth. The combined vision of this group was to establish an organisation, controlled by local business, that would be free from external influences to concentrate on the training and development of people employed, or about to be employed, in industry and commerce. As such, PETA was set up to be (and still is) a registered charity, directed by an executive council of leaders elected from our member base. There are no shareholders at PETA, only stakeholders. We operate on a self-financing basis and are non-profit making, which means all our funds are reinvested into the services and training we deliver. Whilst our heritage is in engineering, today, PETA offers over 200 courses and apprenticeship programmes in the most sought after professional, digital and technical skillsets – from management training to health and safety qualifications, IT skills and engineering. Today, PETA is one of the largest and most respected training providers on the south coast and we will continue to build on this reputation, transforming careers and building the next generation of business leaders and technical experts.

Welcome to Harris Westminster Sixth Form. We are one of the highest-performing sixth forms in the UK and it is my enormous privilege to lead it as Head of School. I have worked at Harris Westminster since 2015 and this is truly a special school, with the most fantastic students and the most engaging and inspirational staff. My educational background is a little different to most of our students; I grew up in the United States while attending boarding school in Worcestershire, but I then went on to study Economics at UCL and have been based in London ever since. My own school journey is what drives my desire to work with students like ours. I teach maths and love maths- but didn't read it at university (it wasn't the cool option...!) It is our job as sixth form staff to help make sure our students make the best decisions for themselves around what they love, through sharing as much information we can and being sounding boards for their ambitions. At the heart of our school is the belief that, given the right opportunities, students from any background can succeed at the highest levels, both at university or apprenticeships and in their future careers.
