ABOUT OUR TEACHINGS There is one very powerful way to demystify any assumptions or preconcepts you might have about Kundalini Yoga: come and try it!  Everybody is welcome to our classes whether you are intrigued by kundalini, just started your journey or already familiar with it.  The practice is open to all levels and we aim to create the space for an authentic body and mind experience.  We practice dynamic sequences of exercises called kriyas, which are not complicated postures that take years to master, actually the opposite.  Most of the asanas are simple movements structured in sequences, with breathing technique and mudras –hands gestures. A meditation and mantras or music, or both are always part of the experience.   One single class might already leave you with a subtle sensation of wellbeing beyond the physical usual relaxation of any workout, as if you are slightly floaty and at peace in yourself.

ALHA (Avon Local History & Archaeology) is an umbrella group, aiming to encourage and coordinate activities of the various local history, archaeological and heritage groups that lie within the Avon area. Our area is the former County of Avon, now the council areas of Bath & North-East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire in the West of England. There are some eighty societies in ALHA, with a collective membership of about 10,000. Some are region-wide but with special interests like the Bristol & Avon Family History Society; while many are parish- or district-based. They are listed on our Groups page. We also have links with local institutions, such as Record Offices, Libraries, Museums and Universities. We are managed by an elected Executive Committee meeting once a quarter, and operate through a small number of voluntary officers. Membership of ALHA is open to both groups or other institutions, and to individuals. Group members receive a free copy of the Speakers List and all members receive a copy of the Newsletter. Cheltenham Tutors Ltd was founded at the start of the pandemic with the purpose of providing affordable and accessible tuition to students. With schools closing and all learning being remote, we thought that there was a need to offer additional educational support to schools, families, and children. We also thought that this tuition should be accessible to all. We therefore provided affordable online tuition throughout the pandemic and we worked with local schools and families to deliver hundreds of hours of online tutoring. 9am to 3pm each day, we logged on to support students in their learning and to offer 1-2-1 teaching. We greatly enjoyed working with all the wonderful schools, families, and students and making a difference to the education of many children. Now that life is returning to normal and schools are fully open again, we continue to offer affordable tuition to schools and we are happy to take on private clients as well. We offer our tutoring predominantly face to face. What we do We specialise in meeting students where they are at and moving them forward in their learning. Because we are run by teachers, we know what students need to cover in their curriculum, where they should be academically, and how best to accelerate progress in learning. We also believe that all students are capable of making good progress, and that it is normal to struggle and need extra help. The tutoring we provide is professional, effective, and supportive. It starts with getting to know the student and moves onto boosting academic performance, all in an atmosphere which is personal and supportive.

From the Headteacher, Michael Scott May I extend a warm welcome to our website. Newport Girls’ High School offers an all-round education with considerable strengths both inside and beyond the classroom. We support students academically to achieve their potential, whilst also developing resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing. As a relatively small school, there is a real family-feel to NGHS and our house system affords students the chance to meet peers in other year groups and to participate in healthy competition in a wide range of disciplines. There is an extra-curricular activity to suit all tastes at NGHS and staff work exceptionally hard to provide these opportunities for our students. We also organise a number of key open events during the academic year and welcome visitors to see all that NGHS has to offer. Our curriculum is academically rigorous with all students studying two modern languages in KS3 and separate sciences at GCSE. Some students also study Further Maths as an additional equivalent GCSE. At A-level we offer a full range of subjects to enable progression to university, apprenticeship or employment. Significant support with UCAS applications is available to all. Our pastoral team, comprising both teaching Heads of Year, SENDCO and non-teaching support staff ensure that our students’ individual needs are met and we work closely with families and primary schools to ensure a smooth transfer from Year 6. Newport Girls’ High School was visited by Ofsted in October 2019 for a section 8 inspection. We are delighted to have retained our outstanding status as a result of this visit under the revised Ofsted framework.
