Since 2004, East Renfrewshire Council and Glasgow City Council have been working together to develop and manage Dams to Darnley Country Park. The country park sits between Barrhead, Darnley and Newton Mearns, and is made up of a patchwork of woodland, grassland, open water, wetland and farmland. Throughout the year, the Dams to Darnley Countryside Ranger Service run events, health walks and volunteering activities. They also offer outdoor learning opportunities for local schools. The Barrhead dams, the country park's most striking feature, is a series of 5 interconnected reservoirs owned and managed by Scottish Water. The Brock Burn is the source for the Barrhead dams. This small, but important watercourse also provides a corridor for wildlife and has influenced the country park's historical landscape for centuries. As the Brock Burn continues its journey north beyond the Barrhead dams it becomes the focus of Dams to Darnley Local Nature Reserve. The reserve contains a mosaic of woodland, grassland and wetland habitats. The largest woodland is Waulkmill Glen, an important ancient semi-natural site. The glen is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its geology and includes the remains of a 324 million year old tropical, marine environment.

The Glasgow Drum Circle is a community arts group dedicated to learning and playing rhythms of the world. We are open to adults of various musical ability from the complete beginner to the more experienced drummer. In order to get people playing and their understanding of these world rhythms developed quickly, where they can perform as a group, we have developed a teaching system using both traditional methods and modern, western notation. This works really well for us. As well as this, we learn about the culture of origin of the music and the context the music is performed in.

The rest of the club will remain open but whilst we will make every effort to keep disruption to a minimum there will be members of our maintenance team in the gym throughout this period. We have opened access to all Glasgow clubs for members so for a workout there, please head over and use your QR code to enter. Scottish BPOC Writers Network (SBWN) is an advocacy and professional development group for Scottish or Scotland-based writers and literary professionals who identify as BPOC (Black people, People of Colour).* Contact us Frequently Asked Questions Membership Membership is free and open to any BPOC* writer or literary professional who is Scottish and/or based in Scotland and participates in our online or venue-based events or spaces, or publishing or literary opportunities. Membership may be extended to BPOC writers or literary professionals based outwith Scotland on occasion. Commissioned artists will typically be from the BPOC and/or SBWN communities. SBWN may work with volunteers, partners and allies who identify as BPOC, or white, or another racial or ethnic identity. Some events or activities may be open to the general public or the wider literary community. We have adopted a Constitution. We operate a Safer Spaces Policy during all events, projects and initiatives. *Please see our Mission and Values page for who we are talking about when we say ‘Scottish BPOC writers.’ History Formerly known as Scottish BAME Writers Network (2018-2021), SBWN was co-founded in 2018 by Alycia Pirmohamed and Jay Gao, and aims to connect Scottish BPOC writers with the wider literary sector in Scotland and beyond. Weaving together collaborative literary partnerships, cross-arts co-creation and an intersectional approach to inclusive and participatory programming, SBWN is a sector change-maker, facilitating necessary conversations around inclusive programming in an effort to address and overcome systemic barriers. Professional development programming includes publishing and performance opportunities, workshops, masterclasses, curatorial roles, training and seminars, industry panels and partnerships, feedback and mentoring. Run by BPOC writers for BPOC writers, and informed by member surveys, consultation and feedback, SBWN uplifts, validates and provides safer spaces for marginalised voices, nurturing and promoting the current and next generation of Black and POC writers based in Scotland.

Colville Park Golf Club was built originally as a 9 hole course in 1923, the course was refined and lengthened as early as 1925 to the 18 holes you can see today by the renowned golf course designer James Braid. In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Jackson in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage. Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors. Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into our larger, current home on Church Street in Warnham. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open a Pole Place sister venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”! At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients across both our studios. With nine instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients. From teaching the basics to mastering tricks, giving new skills, confidence and empowering one another. You can be anyone you want to be in the studio with zero judgement and only encouragement from all of the Pole Place Family.
