Way back in 2002 I took my first breath underwater using scuba equipment. I absolutely loved it! A couple of years later I was in the car with my mum when we went past a sign that said 'Learn to scuba dive today!' We had booked the experience before we got home! A couple of months later I was given a voucher for the PADI Open Water Diver course. We travelled up to Stoney Cove in November 2004 for what I mainly remember as a very cold experience. I was soon a qualified Junior PADI Open Water Diver! I eventually signed up for my DiveMaster course in 2011 - the first professional level when you begin taking responsibility for other divers' training! I loved helping with courses and seeing the sense of achievement on peoples' faces - I could really relate to it - however, I was soon convinced to sign up for my instructor course. I've been a PADI Course Director since 2018 and have had the pleasure of teaching candidates from all walks of life and being just a small part of their journey to what might become a full-time career. I love teaching the professional courses but feel just as comfortable teaching a DSD or Seal Team Course (I am still a child at heart!) If you join an IDC with me, you'll benefit from tailored scheduling to suit your availability and a CD who uses the latest and most up to date tools from PADI to teach you. I am passionate about being inclusive and believe that 'one size definitely does not fit all'. I've had the privilege of instructing in quite a few places around the world, teaching in Egypt, Spain, Kenya, and various countries in the Caribbean. Although by far not an expert in all these different regions, I've learnt a lot about the specific challenges that various areas face.

Charitable Purposes The Scottish Potters Association objectives are the advancement of the Arts and Culture and in furtherance of this: To promote and encourage the making, appreciation and development of Scottish pottery and ceramic craft, art and culture. To provide information and opportunities for communication and collaboration between ceramic makers, artists and the public. To work in partnership with other organisations. To provide and promote Equal Opportunities such that; the organisation will not discriminate based on race, sex, disability, sexuality, age or based on political, religious or other opinions. Activities To meet those objectives, the SPA aims to: arrange opportunities for the public: to see potters at work; to get hands on with clay; to see potters work on display; run workshops for members; organise demonstration events for members; organise public exhibitions of members work; produce and distribute a map of potters active in Scotland; provide financial support in the form of a bursary; provide opportunities for members to network. The Mary Carroll Library Founded in 1954 by Miss Mary Carroll, the School Library serves the students and Staff. It houses well over 10,000 books and is equipped with tape recorders, cassettes, headphones and a projector. Over the years, Miss Carroll worked out a scheme of training a team of Desk Librarians and this system, under the direction and with the assistance of the present Librarian, is still in operation today. The students gain very valuable experience in dealing with queries and handling books. The Library is open to all students and Staff. Most of the stock can be borrowed for home use but dictionaries, encyclopaedia and out-of-print books may not be taken out. A book may be borrowed for a fortnight and may be renewed on request if no one else has asked for it. Books can be reserved on request as in the public libraries. There is no fee required for joining the school Library. Library News Our new computerised system has been purchased and we have already uploaded over two thousand books onto the system! We hope to have all our fiction books uploaded by the end of the school year. Once all the fiction books have been uploaded we can begin using the new system to check out books. This means that students can also search our catalogue and renew books from home. Library Opening Hours A reminder that the library is open Monday to Friday at lunchtime, 1.00–1.40. Library Readathon Following the success of our readathon last year we ran another one before the Christmas Holidays. Once again this year, the winning student was presented with a hamper of goodies. The hamper was on display in the library and sponsorship cards were collected from the library at lunchtime. All were invited to participate!

Founded in 1931, the Yorkshire and Humberside Federation of Museums and Galleries was one of the first regional federations to be established. Shine is the only UK charity that support adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. There is never a good time to have cancer, but we know that younger adults face different issues than their older or younger counterparts. Many of these are not dealt with by traditional cancer support charities and services. Our vision, mission and strategy In January 2022, we finalised a new five-year strategy. We have updated our vision and mission statements and articulated our values. We will use these to underpin five strategic objectives that will guide Shine’s focus and attention between 2022 and 2027. Vision We want every adult in their 20s, 30s and 40s who is diagnosed with cancer to know they’re not alone, and to have the support, knowledge, and confidence to navigate whatever cancer throws their way. Mission There’s never a good time for a cancer diagnosis, but in your 20s, 30s or 40s there are particular challenges to navigate, like work, dating, finances and more. At Shine, we’ve been there and we get it. We’re here to help you deal with everything that your diagnosis brings, before, during and after treatment, and to welcome you into our community. Our values Inclusive – Our services are open to anyone in their 20s, 30s and 40s with a cancer diagnosis, no matter what type or stage, when your diagnosis was, or what your background is. Our goal is for these strands to come together to enable better wellbeing for younger adults with cancer, improved relationships and less isolation, more informed decision-making, and systems that are better able to meet our community’s needs. Our history Shine started in Dorset in 2008 as a non-traditional support group for young adults. Emma and Justine were both diagnosed with cancer at a young age and had a hard time finding others that the could relate to. They realised there was a huge lack of support for younger adults with cancer and the idea for Shine was born. Within the first year, they had connected with over 100 young adults in Dorset. In 2010, Emma met Ceinwen. They launched Shine in London and the UK’s first research into the unmet needs of young adults diagnosed with cancer. Ceinwen and Emma then developed events and activities that would support the gaps identified in the research. Shine was registered as a charity in 2012, and has since supported thousands across the UK Shine has local Shine Networks across the UK and runs a number of annual events including Shine Camp, the Great Escape retreat, and Shine Connect, the UK’s only conference for young adults with cancer. Shine also runs a number of highly-rated workshops on topics such as working after cancer and managing anxiety and depression. As a patient-led organisation, Shine works hard to ensure that young adults with cancer play a key role in the design and delivery of all activities. Shine is supported by a Board of Trustees as well as a patron, Oliver Spencer, and a number of corporate supporters including TTA and Travel Insurance Facilities.
