Panepistimio Macedonias

panepistimio macedonias

In a rapidly changing world, the University of Macedonia must be at the forefront of innovation, openness and excellence under terms of social sensitivity and inclusive education. Being in the seventh decade of its operation, the University of Macedonia is evolving into an open, innovative and daring Higher Education Institution, giving priority to teaching and research based on clear and transparent quality criteria. Simultaneously, it is an organized, operative, clean institution with care for its students. It bears its own identity that is recognized by both the local and the wider Greek community. The University of Macedonia goes hand in hand with the developments of society and the international academic community in order to suit the needs of the new era being based upon the values of communication, cooperation, equal treatment and open society. It is our firm belief that no development matters unless it becomes an integral part of the wider society. Openness for the University of Macedonia shall mean close cooperation with the city’s bodies and primarily with Municipal Authorities and the Prefecture, and harmonization of its actions for the shared objective to make the city of Thessaloniki the metropolitan center of the Balkan Peninsula. In this direction, through the enhancement of its participation and its academic programs, the development of research collaborations, the organization of scientific conferences and cultural - educational exchanges, our University will contribute to the international academic community and the attraction of foreign scientists and students. Openness shall also mean close cooperation with economic bodies and the industry, exchange of ideas and establishment of a framework through which the University, market and society will be engaged in a constant communication and interaction.

The academy can be found nestled at the foot of the Humber Bridge in Barton upon Humber, North Lincolnshire, within a Grade II listed building known as The Ropewalk. Hall’s Barton Ropery was an international name of excellence in the shipping and many other industries for 200 years. Hall’s Ropes made on the Barton site were used on all the major shipping lines and for the first ascent of Everest. The factory was closed in 1989 and lay dormant until April 2000 when one fifth of the building was restored and opened as an arts centre housing 2 galleries, artists workshops, picture framing business and a Heritage Display. The centre currently attracts in excess of 20,000 visitors per year and is run by The Waterside Artists Co-operative. In September 2005 the rest of the building was restored and is now home to 12 artist’s studios and 18 units being used for creative industries including digital, media, design and other related industries including a fantastic coffee shop and The Nigel Brown Cookery Academy. The Academy is easily accessible by car, roughly an hours’ drive from Lincoln, Leeds, York and Sheffield with plenty of free parking. You can also reach us by train or bus, our nearest bus/rail station is Barton and the academy is a short walk away.

Broken Spoke Bike Co-op

Oxford

The Broken Spoke is a not-for-profit social enterprise started by people who are really passionate about cycling, and we provide open workshop support, mechanics courses, cycle training, women’s and transgender people only mechanics sessions, and a hub of information for people who cycle (or really want to). We partner with local community organisations, school groups, and individuals with the goal of making people more proficient and confident in cycle maintenance and riding. Since February 2018, Broken Spoke has been registered as a Community Benefit Society with charitable objectives and we are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under number 31918R as Broken Spoke Bicycles Limited. Some history Broke Spoke was founded in June 2012. From the beginning the founders have been working closely with the Cooperative Enterprise Hub for advice and training. Thanks to their assistance and support, Broken Spoke became a fully fledged not-for-profit Industrial and Provident Society Multistakeholder Co-operative in December 2012. (Phew, that’s a mouthful…) On 10 October 2016, we updated our registration in line with the current legislation and were then called a ‘registered society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014’. (…not sure if that made it easier?) In 2017 we decided that the Community Benefit Society model is actually a better fit with the purpose and objectives of Broken Spoke. On 12 February 2018 we registered the amendment of our rules and thereby transitioned to being a Community Benefit Society, still registered under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. We are also still dedicated to adhering to the co-operative principles and are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity.

Happy Chatters Speech & Language

happy chatters speech & language

London

My journey into the world of speech and language therapy came at a time when I needed help in developing my daughter’s speech & language skills. Whilst we worked with the NHS, who did the best they could with the resources available, it became apparent that she would need more for her to progress. I felt it was up to me to open up her world further to encourage and develop her comprehension and expressive language. As a parent when your child is non – traditionally speaking it is difficult to understand how to help them and this can be extremely frustrating. Working with my daughter has inspired me to help other parents and children in similar circumstances. Using my skills as a professional and a mother I am able to empower parents/caregivers on the best way they can help their children. Being a proud mum to my autistic daughter has taught me so much but mostly understanding that as parents it is our responsibility to ensure that our children develop the necessary life skills to become young confident people and in doing so a big part of this is being able to recognise when ‘you’ as a parent need help to ensure all their needs are fully met. As a Speech & Language Associate Practitioner I currently run a Speech and Language clinic (Happy Chatters Speech & Language) in Northwest London. I work with children within the early years settings and specialise in working with children on the Autism Spectrum. I am fortunate to work alongside highly professional Speech & Language therapists to ensure a holistic approach in delivering personalised models.
