In addition the London Aquatics Centres provides a state-of-the-art gym and a dry diving facility for athletes of all levels. This stunning venue is located in East London next to the Westfield Stratford shopping centre and easily accessible by public transport from Stratford Rail Station. ABOUT US Allegro School of Gymnastics was founded in 2015 after huge demand from parents that were taught by our Head Coach Sam in local schools. It was felt that there was a need for a local gymnastics club with one strong rule in mind – to teach children quality gymnastics skills and technique, with fun and play a close second. Our main club is now based at Newstead Woods Sports Centre but due to huge popularity and success, we now have a second, permanent location at Bromley Football Club. Our previous centres at Ravens Wood and Darrick Wood have enabled us to grow and expand, and we now provide Squad, Recreational and Pre school classes six days a week. Newstead and Bromley both house all four full-sized Olympic pieces including bars and beam and our Pre School unit provides smaller pieces alongside the full size equipment to help build confidence in out younger gymnasts. As parents ourselves with over 20 years of parenting experience and coaches that are ex high level gymnasts, we feel that we can understand and relate to our gymnasts individual needs as children in a much more supportive and positive way whilst having the technical knowledge to ensure that all skills are taught safely and progressively. We understand that most children are desperate to do a backflip and a somersault, but we teach the children to understand that the basic skills need to be learnt properly first and then when they are all put together the children are rewarded with the skills they have been so eager to perform.

At the Good Growth Hub, all internship opportunities pay at least the London Living Wage of £11.95 per hour – but we strive for higher.  For businesses, the Good Growth Hub is an excellent resource to establish good working standards and to become more inclusive. Employers are able to both nurture and draw from a talent pipeline that’s eager to show what they can do. Hannah Jones established the swim school in 2011 after teaching at Esporta for several years and growing a loyal client base through achieving consistently fast improved swimming skills, after Esporta closed Hannah seized the opportunity to set up her own swimming business. We are based at Parkhall Business Village and operate from our own custom built swimming facility, we provide swimming lessons for both children and adults. We work with a variety of abilities varying from non-swimmers to competitive athletes, offering small group, private sessions and specific skill classes such as diving or life saving. I am supervised by an EMCC and ICF-accredited supervisor. I am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider, which compliments my skills workshops on managing stress and building resilience. For my own wellbeing, I enjoy running, hill walking and real ale, occasionally combining all three by taking part in mountain marathons followed by a well-earned break in a local pub to refuel and recover. I enjoy reading history and biographies (as well as psychology, it goes without saying!), and I try to keep my German and Russian above the level of embarrassed British tourist asking for directions to the beach.

PARADICE A BRIEF HISTORY One day in the early 1970’s Ross Blong, a farmer with imagination as it turned out, came home from a particularly unpleasant milking and told his wife Nell he had enough and wanted to find something different to do! After searching for a “people business” they decided on an ice skating rink in Glen Innes and purchased it in 1974. After a steep learning curve they established Paradice on the map as a great family entertainment facility in Auckland. By 1980 they had dreams of building New Zealand’s first international size indoor arena and had it up and running by May 1981 at our current Avondale location at Lansford Cresent. It has been popular ever since with families and as a “hang out” for teens and young adults. There have been several transformations since its opening with the most recent being completed in 2011 to include a state of the art ice floor, dasher boards and refrigeration system. By the late 1990’s the second family generation having being heavily involved in ice sports at an international level dreamed of a second, Olympic sized indoor ice rink, again a first for New Zealand, and it was built in 1999 at its current location Botany Downs. The rink is still going strong today. In 2012 Paradice owned and operated Auckland’s first temporary outdoor ice rink at Aotea Square which has turned into an annual winter wonderland type event with the addition of NZ’s first event ice slide in 2014. Our temporary ice rinks have expanded to Rotorua, Wellington, and Taupo. Through the years Paradice has operated as a family, customer focused friendly business with staff sharing their passion for people and ice with innovation!

Durham University Fencing Club has a long-standing reputation for being one of the leading programmes in British University Sport, and is currently the #1 university fencing club in the country. Facilities, Coaches, and Training The club boasts the only purpose-built university fencing salle in the UK, with four permanent metal pistes, four training pistes, and one wheelchair fencing frame. In addition to phenomenal facilities, Durham also has a top-class training programme. Club sessions are run by head coach Laszlo Jakab, who has coached athletes to become Olympic, Commonwealth, and National Champions in all three weapons. Assistant coach Stewart Watson has also returned from a stint as performance director for Singapore Fencing, and similarly offers one-to-one lessons. In addition to training, team fencers can also take part in Strength and Conditioning sessions, run by the University’s Performance Sport Programme. Performance Fencing The club’s top teams are regular winners of BUCS, a competitive league in the UK comparable to the NCAA. BUCS takes place throughout the year in both a League and knockout Cup format. Both 1st teams were BUCS Champions in 2020, a title now claimed by the men’s team 4 times. The men’s 1st team has also reached the finals of the Cup for 4 years of the last 5, and the women’s 1st team for 3. The club won three gold medals at the BUCS National Individual Championships 2020, two of which were by members of our women’s 1st team. The talent that we have attracted is testament to the strength of our programme. Many of our performance fencers have represented their nations at World and European Championships, Commonwealth, Pan American, and Central American games. We are aware that not all children will want to become the next Olympic Champion, but we believe every child should have the opportunity to learn to swim and be given the key swimming skills to enable them to reach their maximum potential. Diamond Swim Academy will provide swimmers with the skill set required as well as retaining the all-important element of fun. We are two families that have come together to form Diamond Swim Academy. We all met though swimming and were all National or International Swimmers. As ex swimmers we know what is required at a fundamental level to ensure that swimmers are given the correct skills and opportunity to reach their potential. We are proud to say we offer that individualised service at Diamond Swim Academy. We purposely do not run lessons back to back to enable a 10 minute break between lessons. We do this as we anticipate that children may take longer to get in/out or that a parent/guardian may want to talk to the teachers to discuss their childs/swimmers progress. The 10 minute gap ensures each lesson gets the full half hour of quality teaching. At Diamond Swim Academy we work closely with the National Governing Body of Swimming, The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and use the British Gas ASA Learn to Swim Pathway and complementary awards, as the basis of our lessons. The British Gas ASA Learn to Swim Pathway is the overarching programme for Learn to Swim. Within this pathway, Diamond Swim Academy use the ASA Foundation Framework, ASA Learn to Swim Framework and ASA Adult Framework. Diamond Swim Academy also add additional elements to each framework depending on the swimmers requirements. Swimmers will work towards achieving a set of outcomes that Diamond Swim Academy have set in conjunction with the ASA awards criteria, before progressing up through our lesson programme. Once a swimmer achieves a set of outcomes we like to recognise their achievement with the relevant award which is made up of a badge and a certificate. These can be purchased for a small additional cost. When swimmers join Diamond Swim Academy they will receive a membership pack containing information about what to expect when being part of Diamond Swim Academy. The information includes details about what the swimmer will strive to achieve, pathways they can progress along, awards they can achieve and events that we hold throughout the year.
